Removing the sensor data would go a long way for competitive Sundays IMO.

Let them have the data after the race ends.  A lap at COTA probably has 20 calls from the pit box for engine modes, brake balance tire temps etc etc.  Put more on the driver.

Exactly. If the car is too complex for the driver to manage on their own as it used to be, then deal with it. Make it more manageable for them. Or don't, and suffer. The driver needs to be a bigger part of the equation again.

They are tone deaf.  Toto ""And at the moment, we are pretty much everywhere around the globe. But I'd love to race in New York City; that would be awesome"

These cars can't run on street circuits, but the money they would get is more important that the product.

Yeah, I can’t imagine throwing out all that money to come here for the cota experience. But most of the people seemed to enjoy it. The Italians behind us enjoyed the roller coaster. We are lucky it’s in our backyard

Hey, just curious. Do yo know how much Epstein was charging for coaster rides? Also, the tower cost $35 last time I went up, but that was at least 3 or 4 years ago. Surely he's raised that price.

Am I the only one upon reading that thought, hmmmm......$16 for a beer is too bad compared to $120 for a hat.

Please tell me he got a blowjob with the hat for that $120.

Wait ... are you saying there's somewhere I can get a hat and a blowjob for $120?

Hook a brother up, yo!

Regular baseball hats are $120+. There were lots of people that bought cowboy hats out there. My daughter and wondered how much they ran. We figured $200 or more

Bullshit. no "REGULAR" baseball hat is $120. Only the baseball hats sold at COTA priced so high only a truly fucking dumbarse would buy one are $120+ plus.

I suspect if some group of bored Eastern European teens had taken over AWS I could open a link to one of the various sites that has COTA merch that I suspect they aren't selling for $12

Guess we will see how he stacks up soon!

I love this news. This is going to be a fascinating experiment and comparison of IndyCar drivers vs F2. It'll also just make the F2 season way more fun. I think he'll start out very fast in quali and the races but struggle with Pirelli tyre wear early in the season (unless he does a crap ton of testing before the season, which is possible because he has Gainbridge and Andretti money behind him). I expect him to be the best driver in F2 by the end of the season, but it will be fascinating to see how it plays out.

Also for those in here who want to see real, close racing, I highly recommend watching F2. It's a ton of fun to watch and follow and allows you to watch actual racing after an F1 snoozefest most weeks.  A lot of quick, young drivers going all out against each other. You see flashes of brilliance and absolute foolishness all mixed together in a tight racing series. The F2 cars can follow so much better than F1, they're smaller, lighter, and don't have nearly as much ERS and other pitwall settings nonsense.  Fullraces.com posts every F2 race shortly after if you don't want to have to subscribe to ESPN+. I haven't seen it announced, but I'm hoping the Apple TV rights include the F2 races as well. That would definitely help bring more visibility to F2.

Three consecutive posts from the Autosport USGP thread that are a great example of what we were talking about above ...

Quote

The complete lack of tyre deg even on the M is just such a big problem. It's ruined so many races this year. Suzuka, China, Spa, Monza, Baku etc.

Quote

No matter what tire you give them, they will prefer to drive slowly in the high stress corners to avoid an extra pitstop. It's only when the calculation between driving slower and the speed of the alternate tire crosses over that you get the chance of 2 stops.

Quote

This is what a lot of people forget. It's all so data driven now that if going slow and preserving tires is faster they will all choose that one

Yeah. Went last year, seats @ Turn 12. Got there early enough Sunday for the support races (Porsche series cars had a sweeter exhaust note than F1, IMHO). Good view of the backstraight, T12 battles & overtakes, and T13-15. Had a great time; loved the smell of burning clutch in the morning & afternoon.

That said… don’t think I’d go back again & those in our group agreed. It’s just so hard to get in and out of there and as noted above $$$.

If they bring back V10s, though…

Weird how George only talks about tires and doesn't mention the inability to follow closely. Maybe he should go back in time and talk Toto out of pushing for the re-introduction of outwash wings.

Also, I'm not sure what he's after here, since there are only a few more races left under this ruleset.

Question: Military flyovers were banned a couple of years back, yet we had an Apache/Chinook flyover this weekend. How did that happen?

Coincidental.  TX Natl Guard flight path on the way to quell insurrection in Illinois.

It's like everything else in F1. There are loopholes to be exploited.

Give 'em whatever tire they want, but only allow each car to hold 12 gallons of fuel. Plenty of pitstops then.

But really, I don't know if forcing more pitstops (though intentionally-shitty tires or limiting fuel) is a good way to increase engagement. It just introduces more randomness.

I mean, we could just roll a D6 after each qualifying session and if a 6 hits, we invert the starting order--chaos race!

Or we could have sprinkler or soaker systems set up to make sure we get the equivalent of at least 5 rain laps every race.

Or give each driver some kind of light gun that he could aim at any car within 50 meters and zap it, giving the target car a power drain for like 5 seconds.

Right, I assumed that.  I'm curious as to what the loophole is.

Hionestly, I can't remember. What I do remember is that it didn't take long after the 'ban' for a race to have a flyover, with the news reports saying it wasn't actually a military flyover or somesuch, and that's why it was allowed.

I think re: the tire situation, it's as has been alluded to earlier: the current data-driven nature of the sport, i.e. it doesn't really matter so much what kind of tire you throw at it, the data crunchers will analyze / simulate it to fucking death and spit out the most boring strategy, which almost everyone will run some variation of.

Helicopters aren't a flyover, that is just a normal Saturday night in some cities in America.

If you want a real flyover bring out a few B 52's since you no longer get to feel the rumble of the V12's.

We would play golf on a crappy public course on the NW side of Ft Worth and while I can' remember which holes were across the high way from the run way I can still remember the feel that start in the ground and passed through your body as the B 52's would talk off.

The Red Arrows fly over Silverstone because they they fly training aircraft in an aerobatic role, not combat aircraft.  Red Bull's Flying Bulls fly over the Austrian GP - decommissioned military aircraft owned by a private company.  The flyover at Abu Dhabi is a commercial Etihad jet and the Al Fursan aerobatics team - again flying training jets as part of an aerobatic team, although Al Fursan did not fly last year.

I could see the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels being allowed under the aerobatics loophole. Chinooks and Apaches are dead center in the middle of the ban, so I'm curious about how that is still allowed.
