Blake basically saying Gasparino was a bad attitude problem.

That started to become obvious later in the season. His hitting also regressed which is often a sign of a "fuck you I do what I want" type of guy.

Savage at UCLA might not be the coach as he is not under contract after this season. There is also the whole stadium limbo thing, UCLA needs to decide if they are going to be serious about the program or not.

Trade for Cholowsky?

….so now just need a catcher.  Probably the position we needed the most.

Last I checked Chamberlains ops was 1.000 so far this summer. We aren’t dead in the water if we miss there, but obviously it’s preferable for Chamberlain to platoon LH DH.

If we miss at C we probably need 1 more top of the order bat. Moving Volantis out of the pen likely means we can’t expect to win nearly every close game again next season

I'd love C and one more SP. However, there's plenty to go with at pitcher on our roster, especially with the new portal additions.

Regardless, this team is going to be salty. Get Tinney, and that's especially true.

I’m pretty meh on Becerra but I guess it’s better than rolling the dice on moving Rodriguez or Mendoza over to SS.

Someone has to hit 9th in the order.

Do you subscribe to the theory that your worst hitter should bat 7th?

I’ve never heard of that theory but I’m assuming it has something to do with wanting your 9 hole to be able to set the table for the top of the order?

In my daughter's 3rd-5th grade kickball team (which TOTALLY translates to D1 baseball), we try to have two 4-person hitting rotations (leadoff to cleanup), with the weakest links in-between.

While I totally get what you're saying (he lacks the big offensive upside for a SS, like we saw from Flores in 2023), we could do a lot worse than Becerra, especially at the bottom of the order.

I'll take a guy with only 13 errors at a premium defensive position and an OBP around .400, especially when we had multiple black holes in the bottom portion of the batting order this past season.

Any idea what his avg and OBP were in ACC play this season? I can't find them sorted out.

Edit: looks like the avg was .333 in ACC play.

That might be hard to find since Stanford played in the ACC lol

.330 and .384 in conf play

C - Tinney (hopefully)

1B - Livingstone

2B - Mendoza

3B - Borba/ARod

SS - Becerra

LF - Moroknek/Freeman/Williams

CF - Robbins

RF - Freeman/Moroknek

DH - ARod/Borba

Seems like an upgrade at the plate, to me.

Seems like Volantis, Harrison, Riojas, Bing, Hamilton, Saunier, Flores, and Dotson may all factor into the starting rotation conversation (including Tuesdays).

Grubbs and Burns seem destined for long relief, with Walker as situational stuff, and Higgins as the closer.

It'll be interesting to see how Howard, Navarre, Rerick, and Moffett develop. There will be attrition here, though.

While I'd love another proven SP, that group is a great base.

I was hoping/expecting Kade Bing to fight for a SP spot.

Needs to throw harder than 86 and probably miss more bats (23 strikeouts in 40 innings against the midweek competition he was facing is not great) if he wants to factor into the conversation on the weekends.

What freshman pitchers do you think will actually contribute this upcoming season?

Cozart is the only one I really know much about. He has great stuff.

Anyone know where Harrison and Ruger are currently expected to be drafted?  It would be huge to get at least 1 of them back.

Neither of them are on MLB.com's most recent top-200. I believe it's much more likely both are back than none. However, we probably retain one.

Have a .400 OBP guy ahead of Mendoza in the 2 hole would be tremendous.

My thought exactly.

Don't know much about some of them but Rummel, Cozart, McKernan, Mitchell and Crossland are all on draft radars and would likely be day 1 contributors.

They are confident in getting Harrison back. No idea on Ruger.

Volantis, Harrison, plus Johnny Wholestaff is a very solid weekend rotation.

Texas should never have to settle for a Johnny Wholestaff game.  Now that Schloss is settled in, we should be at least four 6-7 inning type-starters deep with three to four 2-4 inning shut-down relievers.  We had the relievers this year, just not the starting depth.

We currently have a bunch of question marks for that 3rd SP slot.  We will see multiple different pitchers trotted out there for Sunday and midweek games until someone steps up.

Is Luke Jackson from aggy a target? Hard thrower, with BB issues in not too many innings but an arm Schloss and Weiner brought to Aggy. I would think we might look for some proven right handed pitching to go with the two lefties so far.
