Can we start a thread about the ESPYs where we actually talk about the ESPYs?

are we supposed to take it seriously as some sort of substantial prize or trophy?

best baseball team - the dodgers. whoa!

also if you’ve been posting around me for any amount of time and you think i have any sort of problem with women or even an ounce of misogyny in me, then you haven’t been paying attention and don’t know me at all.

i’m 100% all for women’s empowerment- im also beyond sick of the never ending victim parade when im just trying to watch some sports programming. in this case, for this woman, at this event, on this network, to make some ad hominem comment about women being held down by men, was especially egregious. take your award, thank your people, and stop lecturing me about oppressed you are when it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Also I totally have female friends

can i just watch a sports show without being lectured by some rich, famous person whose been on a pedestal for a decade +? can i watch my show without being reminded that im a POS for having a y chromosome? and if i have to be reminded about my inherent evil nature, and how me and mines are constantly just oppressing women, can i take issue with that without a bunch of echo chamber zealots saying that i must hate women because of it?

No, but do we really need a 150th slap fight thread?

btw, the rugby chick who won an award shortly thereafter made her speech all about empowering women, body positivity, and inspiring little girls, all things that i think are awesome and am fully in support of. don’t tell me im a misogynist because im tired of constantly being reminded of my own evil nature that somehow apparently affects one of the most privileged human beings on the planet.

Didn’t Biles quit the Olympics because she got the spins? That’s not really mental health related, that’s a balance/equilibrium issue that’s pretty dangerous for gymnasts. She lost the ability to orient herself during flips.

My wife slaps me for this opinion but I think it was selfish of her, rather than heroic, when she went to Tokyo. Her mental issue showed up during the US qualifier/championship a few weeks before that Olympics. She got there and noped out the first day. She took a spot on the team away from another athlete that worked her ass off her whole life, and it fucked with Team USA’s strategy of who would compete in each individual and team event. She came back and kicked ass in Paris, but she got a pass, or even hero praise, for Tokyo.

also, as a mentally ill person, if i can borrow some lingo from @David Dennison and the rest of the insufferable SJW’s/perma-victims, simone biles needs to check her privilege. she quit on her team and her country in the middle of the biggest moment of all of their lives and she was a hero for it because she did it for “mental health” reasons, even though she’s not actually mental ill, just under the typical pressure of an olympic athlete.

do you think any actually mentally ill people get to just tell their team, employer, subordinates, etc “hey i’m leaving right now and coming back whenever i feel like it at an undetermined time” and have it go over well? you think they get treated like heroes? how do you think it’s gone in my life whenever i needed to take time off work for my actual, real, life altering mental health reasons? you think i was treated like a hero? do you think i got even a modicum of understanding or support from my bosses and coworkers?

this chick has lived her entire life in a fairytale bubble where everything she does is perfect, where she’s one of the top 1% of the top 1% of athletes of all time, in an era where women have more support and less oppression than they ever have, and she *still* won’t shut the fuck up about how men oppress her and all women. yeah. your take sucks, my take is correct, and i’m gonna stand by it. fuck people with uber privileged and easy lives who play the victim for the love and support that it gets them, and who bastardize mental health awareness without actually doing anything good for anyone who’s actually mentally ill. simone needs to take her uber privileged ass,he accept her award, and fuck off without the ad hominem bullshit about how oppressive and terrible men are. fuck all of that, and fuck anyone so eager to be faux virtuous that they defend it.

Derka, you KNOW that you're mentally ill, because you've had discussions with numerous professionals about YOUR condition.  I applaud you for saying it, and I support your recovery.

You don't know  shit about Biles.  You've never been to one of her doc appointments, or shrink appointments.  You don't know what medications have been prescribed to her, or any other treatment that she may or may not receive.

Guy acts like a victim any chance he gets, it's especially humorous coming from him. He literally calls immamac a fascist for banning him from his own website that he owns and can do anything he wants with. And imma always lets him come back. Fascism is being banned from a website for a couple of weeks, lol.

The only ESPY moment I can recall with any clarity is this one. Other than that I cannot tell you a thing about this awards sh W. The things he mentions that make for a great day is something I still remind people of when their own day feels like it’s gone off the rails.

The tact I will take here is that at least Derka has a space where he can let out things that are annoying or frustrating. It’s not that big a deal I think. It pales in comparison to the football board whining and gnashing of teeth during the season. I rarely visit the football forum during that part of the year.

@Derka I say that only to say to enjoy the day you were given. A lot of people did not wake up yesterday to get the chance to enjoy another day, but you did. I know you understand that mentality, but a reminder never hurts for all of us at times. Seeing something that you don’t appreciate or like, well, a good course of action is to just change the channel. I don’t watch things I don’t enjoy so I completely skip the Bobby Hurley experience during basketball season. You think UT basketball was rough with Rodney Terry, hoo boy, have I got a coach for you to hate watch. I think you bring a whole lot of passion to the basketball board especially. None of this is worth getting annoyed about, but it’s cool to let off some steam here when you do feel that way.

A perfect summation of Derka's views on women.  It goes right along with all his complaints of people playing the victim while he is constantly playing the victim.

honestly- you say i’m “constantly playing the victim”. can you cite some references for me, since it’s so constant? you people love to say this, but it’s baseless, and it’s a juvenile cop out. same as the idea that i hate women, simply because i’m…checks notes…annoyed at the pervasive misandry on my tv? really? that’s all it takes? i dont appreciate the female version of misogyny and therefore i hate women? lol ok.

this thread is a great example of the tribalism that’s pervasive in this country now. people walk around believing that everyone else is either an ally or an enemy, and that they can tell which category everyone else fits into based on one interaction. my posting history on this site, particularly in the CR and DT shows me to irrefutably be a champion of pretty much any all groups who’ve been persecuted or marginalized. i am all for the rights and empowerment of all people, of all colors, all religions, all races, trans, queer, black, female, muslim, chritsian i don’t care- you deserve love, and compassion, and equal rights to the richest, most powerful WASPs on the planet. there is zero doubting or debating where i stand and have always stood on these issues. thats simple fact.

doesn't matter. as soon as i do one thing that you associate with “your enemies”- in this case expressing how tired i am of the constant “woe is me, my marginalized group is so oppressed” talk in the middle of my sporting events- you suddenly think you know everything about me. i must hate women, im a misogynist, im hateful, i have no female friends, etc. you really don’t hear how radical you sound? you don’t think you’ve taken this from 0-100 in 3.2 seconds? if you really can’t see that then there is no room for changing your mind.  if your mind is made up about me, and no amount of earnest discussion or empirical evidence to the contrary of your asinine beliefs about me can move you from your position, then you might want to think about what that says about you.

I would suggest not using this thread as future evidence to this point.

Just let it go, man.

this show has been like 50% filler.

full

I mean, the ESPYs were initially created as filler for the one day in the year where there were no professional sports.
