A wise man once said, "if you win all the time, it's not good for the coaches or the kids. You've got to learn to appreciate it."

Flipside is if you lose too many games early in the season, you may end up like a Strong led Texas team that didn't give a shit, as losing becomes a habit.

This team isn't soft, they are just dispassionate. There's a lack of any vibe on the sideline or in the game. Everyone in their own world, no one hyping the team.

I distinctly remember the Taaffe interception and how he was getting up and ran over to arch manning and was hitting him in the helmet or shoulder pads with the ball all excited and no one even high fived or patted him. It was fucking weird. Arch acted like he wanted him out of his face. Trying to find it on broadcast and I'll out a clip.

Taaffe is surrounded by 1-year mercenaries and all-SEC guys who we had to "restructure contracts" to keep. And others who were all-SEC preseason but have more game-killing penalties than game-tilting big plays, 5 games into the season. Barron did a lot for this program. Before him, Whittington did a lot for this program. I really like Moore and hoped he'd be that guy this year, but it just doesn't seem like he's quite the player Whittington was. Not sure where else to look for the fire.

And this was being said during the Ohio State game. This isn't a new revelation. Seeing Arch sitting on the sidelines, only down 7, talking to nobody, nobody hyping him up.... It's worrying. This is basic competitor shit. If you're down by 7 and felt like you should be at least tied, you're on the sideline trying to pull out some fire from your teammates........ Or you're just waiting for it to be over.

Focusing on the wrong things. Not being ra ra enough is the least of our worries. These issues are much bigger than that. It’s talent and coaching at this point. No amount of hype is going to make up for that. If anything it would only serve as material to be made fun of like when Arch overly celebrated against mid teams.

Horns couldn't recover last night. Hope that's a lesson for the rebuilding squad.

I think rebuilding is right. We all knew some digestion/mean reversion was likely after the last 2 years. Unfortunately OL and QB are ass and we have not rebuilt at the skill positions. All of that will need to be addressed this offseason. Hopefully some of the big donors can pony up to buy up some talent to fix it this offseason. Because right now this isn't working.

Glad you brought this up.  There were times during the game (and other games this season) where I saw what I perceived to be apathy or resignation.  I think dispassion is a better term.

I chalked it up to the team's realization that it has problem areas and they are just waiting for that wheel to fall off or that tire to go flat.

Add NIL, where some guys are making crazy money while performing poorly, it can be a recipe for dispassion and/or resentment.  Do you think the players dislike each other?

Your NIL comment rings true.

A high school classmate has a son that’s a D-1 baseball player.  There were some players on his first team that were getting NIL money.  His son was not one of them.

There were cliques that formed with the NIL players and the non-NIL scholarship guys and partial-scholarship guys were left out.  It caused problems.

I could see that at a big football school. How many guys are secure enough to hang all the time with a guy that’s got a McLaren or a Maserati but sucks on the field?

My guess is there are more clashes of young egos or at least some backstabbing or resentment in any big NIL funded team.

Remember, all of these guys have been told they are “the man” since 7th grade.  When they see an underperformer getting big perks but aren’t getting similar compensation, it’s gonna go badly.

Just two plays likely would have been the difference between victory and defeat yesterday. As badly as they played, the game likely would have had a different outcome but for the blocked punt and the errant throw by Wingo. That's rather amazing given what we saw in shitty OL play, lack of run game, crappy tackling and questionable defensive schemes.

I would include and can't get the first play of the game out of my head. A short pass and a Texas helmet to the ball after the catch cause a fumble in the open field. I expected to see two or three Texas defenders soon in the picture going for the loose ball. There was one and he took a sort of strange route to the ball like he wants to pick it up and run with it. He misses the ball and the receiver who is on the ground has time to get up pick up the ball and lunge forward before any other Longhorn defenders show up. A Texas recovery after the first Florida offensive play in plus territory probably changes the whole dynamics of the game. It would have been Texas with the great start and Florida and Lagway with doubt in their minds right away. Instead, Florida goes right down the field and scores and never lost the lead after that with all that momentum gained.

All I could think of when Wingo launched that pass over a wide-open tight end was a coach in practice telling him if the receiver is wide open just get the ball to him and let him catch it. That it would be better to be short with the throw in that scenario and not overthrow him. You could see that Endries had slowed down and just wanted to present himself as an easy target for Wingo. He knew he was going to score if he could just get the ball. Then Wingo uncorks that rainbow that with a pretty good breeze behind it just kept going and going. Endries couldn't get back up to top speed again to catch up to it. You have saved that play for situations like that when Texas desperately needed a score and it breaks wide open, and the worst scenario happens, the pass is overthrown.

Rashaan Salaam. 317. And fuck you for  bringing that up.

I remember we were walking across the field after the game because you could in those days. Announcer was reading off the stats. Salaam, Colorado, 317. We knew it was bad but  goddamn that was deflating.

Didn’t Curtis Martin of Pitt also have a 300yd day?

It's a pretty young team and especially on offense, the young talent hadn't previously shown out much or had the opportunity to take/provide leadership.

The defense has Taafe, Burke, a couple of others.  Maybe no one in the trenches.

Also, most of the youngsters have only known very limited disappointment in UW, UGa, and OSU.  Whereas some of the older players we'd lost had truly suffered with relatively poor seasons.

Meh they’re inexperience but not young. They’ve been in enough big games and environments to be better than this.

He just echoing the same dog shit stuff Sark says. Such a defeatist attidude imo. They should be pissed about this and should be expecting to win every fucking game, not get losses under your belt.

If Endries slows up then that is on Endries and not Wingo.  The play is never run to have the receiver slow down on purpose.  he should only slow down to adjust to the throw.

that said, I didn't really see Endries slow down.

I have such a radically different take on what's going on and I was talking at length about it with Will Matthews today who was on the sideline - we both saw/felt the same thing.

The play is run to complete the pass either for a big gain or a score,

it was wide open, Wingo didn't have to be Tom Brady and yes, an underthrown ball would have gotten the job done, in that situation. In fact, he would have still scored. Anything but an overthrow.

no shit but they run the play in practice full speed.  Endries should not slow up unless he sees the throw is short.  you were the one that said Endries slowed up. if he did that, it is a mistake on him not Wingo.

It's a mistake to not give the receiver any chance to catch the pass for the big gain or the score when the play is wide open. Practice is practice and not an actual game where things may well be different. The play is wide open, and the primary objective is to first complete the pass or there is no big gain or score. Give your receiver a chance to make the catch and that means at all cost do not overthrow it. He can adjust to an underthrow and still make the catch, that can't happen when the pass is overthrown and remember Wingo had a pretty strong breeze at this back too.

the receiver should never slow up on his route BEFORE the pass is thrown.  It isn't practiced that way.  every receiver knows this and the coach will jump their shit.

If Endries doesn't slow up(per your description, not mine) maybe the pass is not overthrown.
