Years ago, I went out on the town with a buddy and a few of his friends, one of whom was a touring comedian.  He was essentially a nobody.  Nobody could hang with him in terms of any kind of back and forth banter, he was just way too quick and experienced at that.  It was pretty eye-opening.

I've had a similiar experience and until you have that experience, well let's just say it's pretty humbling.

i’ve honestly never heard another comedian ever talk about him. i don’t feel like he’s even in any of the same circles as most other notable comedians.

Seriously?  You think a comedian that is selling out arenas at every tour stop (some multiple shows per day) is not in the same circles as notable comedians?  Maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

I think he's very funny but I wouldn't come close to labeling him as an all time great.  That being said, I think, at least at this current moment in time, he has to be a the top of the heap from a financially successful perspective.

yeah i mean i’ve never heard him mentioned by other comedians, never seen him on any of their podcasts, in fact i almost never hear about nate bargatze at all. if he’s got comedian friends then they don’t seem to be anyone i’m familiar with.

Ralph Barbosa.

Is fucking funny.

He makes me think of Mitch Hedberg for some reason that I can't quite figure out.

I really like smart comedy like Josh Johnson and Sarah Cooper. What I hate is anyone who uses the F word every other word and think that's funny.

i remember watching margaret cho talking about her vagina like 30 years ago, and we’re in 2025 and that’s still a huge thing in female comedy. just straight raunch, no talent. can’t stand how prevalent that still is.

Comedy is in a weird place because so many people are fucking funny as hell and it's never been easier to digest an unlimited amount of comedic content, in as niche a way as you prefer it.   Dopamine has never been easier for humans to produce naturally than in 2025.

Burr going to Riyadh and people getting pissed off really cracks me up...he's been doing shows in the UAE for 3 years and it's not like they are unblemished from a human rights perspective, either.  But NOW you are boycotting?  Okay.     I've listened to him long enough to know if he ultimately thinks he fucked up and made the wrong decision, he'll own it and do something about it.

Gervais is prob the best doing it professionally these days.

Comedy that punches down is always shitty.  That's why so many people are mad at Rogan and his bros.

I don't consider punching down as "comedy;" it’s really just bullying.

I like Gianmarco Soresi. He might be too “progressive” or “liberal” for some people but his jokes are pretty clever coming from his background as an Italian Jew.

YT algo pushing me this guy.  I guess he got his start on BET:

gary owen (aka gary owens) has been one of my favorite comedians for decades. i had a routine when I was a kid on weeknights:

8pm: simpsons

8:30 pm: seinfeld

9-10 pm: b2b episodes of BET’s Comic View

10:00- my dad realized i was still awake: Sportscenter

i’ve never laughed harder in my life than watching dl hughley doing crowd work as the host of comic view in the 90’s. i grew up on him, cedric the entertainer, dc curry, sommore, tp hearn, and yes, gary owen. he’s just always come off as a genuinely good, genuinely funny guy. if you aren’t into black comedy then he might not be for you, but he’s one of my favorites for a long time.

With that said.....YouTube also surfaces a lot of absolute shit that has a fuckton of views and likes and I have absolutely no idea why, and I have to dislike this stuff to keep it off my algorithm.  Like the white guy who is a Navy vet and is constantly talking about being around Black people (I think his wife is Black).  It keeps surfacing it because I've watched a lot of comedy and military shows, but he's so repetitive. I feel like he did two concerts and everything on YT is just chopped up bits from those concerts.

And then on the opposite side of that is Aziz.
