we'd be at 8 at 9-2 with no tosu and pick a random mid level P4.

Without fOSU we would have stayed at 1 until UF and though that would have dropped us out of the top 10, it would not have dropped out of the rankings.

and the refs probably got different instructions for the vandy game.   UGA game would have been a top 6 matchup and we are probably around 8-9 right now above all the teams we beat and a chance to move up as high as 5-6 by beating Aggies

Lol what? We’d be top 10 easily. 9-2 OU, who we killed on a neutral field, is #8.

Don't lose to Florida

OU is 9-2 with better losses to us and Ole Miss. Funny you bring them up they scheduled and beat Michigan and are reaping the rewards.

Bama has a better resume and is currently #10 and will be the final at large at 10-2. They'd be in over Texas.

#4 losing to #11 at home is going to drop further than 6 losing to 5 on the road.

I see a bunch of pussies in here. Yall really Acting like Ohio State is the reason we’re in this position?!?

please close the thread, this is embarrassing

It's the 3rd loss that has put us in the position regardless of who it was to.  the loss column rules all.

if our 3 losses were to OSU, Vandy, UGA we'd be in the same position.

If they actually cared about stuff like strength of schedule, non-conference scheduling and who you beat, OU wouldn’t be behind teams like Oregon and Texas Tech.

All the committee cares about is the number in the loss column. If you aren’t doing everything in your power in your scheduling to ensure that number can be as low as possible, you are putting your program at a disadvantage.

100% this. But idiots here will still ignore that fact and blame us because we had a trap game loss to Florida on the road where they played way over their heads in a "save the coach" game and we were still figuring out who we were. We lost, it happens, and that is the exact reason you should schedule cupcakes in the preseason, because if we did, we would be dancing right now with a win over aggy.

Also, stop with the "we got destroyed by Georgia" BS. We were down 14-10 in the 4th quarter after one of the worst ref fuckings I have ever seen and yes they ran awat with it in the 4th but it was anything but a beatdown. We were competitive and the game couldve gone much differently if we didnt have drops and shitty calls all night leading into the 4th.

We demand our coach lead us to the playoff every year, then voluntarily make that path more difficult despite the fact the committee tells us all they care about is the number of losses. We played 5 top 10 teams this year, yet want to blame our playoff positioning on Florida, a team who led Georgia in the 4th quarter, and treat it as if we lost to some FCS opponent.

All this while we watch Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Oregon and Indiana play complete creampuffs out conference. We played more top 10 opponents than those 4 teams combined.

The double standard is insane. Texas is apparently required to win 3 games against top 10 opponents and not slip up in any other game in order to make the playoff, while other programs play 1 or 2 games a year they could realistically lose.

Correct. The people acting like Florida is roadkill is laughable and they also forget that 2 of our 3 losses are going to end up being (after championship weekend) to the top 2 teams in the country on the road. OSU and UGA will end up 1 and 2. And then everyone will go, well if we didnt lose to that UF team on the road loaded with 5 star talent when we hadnt yet found ourselves then we wouldve been in.

Not only that, we will have wins over 2 teams directly in the field and another just outside the field (Vandy). The system is super fucked up. We play the hardest schedule in the country and get no credit for it. @UGA and @OSU wouldve been losses for literally any team in the country (save Bama who has dark magic over UGA) and that needs to be factored in.

yep.  SOS is about as important as maybe top 25 wins.  Tech is a perfect example as is Indiana.  All you need to do is notch one good top 10-20 win and your SOS doesn't matter. as long as you are in the 30's to 40's no one cares what your SOS is. if aggy had lost to ND, they'd still be #6 or higher because "you can only play the teams on your schedule".

the SOS, SOR, top 25 wins, home/away wins, etc is just to do tiebreakers for teams with the same number of losses.

last week the SEC and Big Ten teams were ranked in order of losses except for Texas Michigan which was at the very bottom and didn't really matter so it made them look like they were "thinking".

here is a funny thing, on sagarin aggy dropped their SOS from 14 to 19 playing something called Samford.  our SOS dropped from 9 to 14 for playing Arkansas.

schedule is relevant as it relates to playoffs, or so the committee tells us.

but your point on our coach is correct.  you can't lose 3 games and expect to be in and that is on the coach.

If we finished 9-3 and had looked like a competent team in Lexington and Starkville then we probably get in. Everyone has seen us look shitty for way too many quarters of football to want us in the playoff.

The loss to Florida is worse than any loss Sark has had. It alone kills any chance this team should and does have.

We don’t demand to make the playoffs every year. We demand the coach prepare the team every week. He did not. Several times.

Florida is trash and they took us to the woodshed. That’s the loss that will keep us out of the playoffs. Ohio State is irrelevant.

The players are also responsible.

That loss is not all on the coaches.

If we beat Aggy then UT needs an immediate fake media leak sent out saying "we will be closely monitoring the CFPs decision to decide whether or not we will cancel Ohio St and all upcoming big OOC games to allign our OOC schedule with the other 2 loss teams ranked ahead of us."

Why do people keep going back to Ohio state? JUST DONT FUCKING LOSE TO 3-8 FLORIDA. It’s that simple.

Actually we should be demanding playoff every year….that should be our bare minimum expectation. If you can’t make the playoffs you can’t win a national title.

The blowout by Georgia is why we won't be in. That dropped us 7 spots behind all the 2 loss teams that didn't get blown out by 24 to another playoff team. Had we lost by a FG or a TD we would still be up there. But we looked like absolutely dogshit in the 4th. The committee before that game was giving us the highest 2 loss ranking and keep us in over 1 loss Big 12 teams. The loss then destroyed that. It showed we weren't a playoff worthy team, which we aren't. The only thing that might get us consideration is if we blow out aggy.

Regardless of the Ohio state loss this team is mid, a 12-17 level team. 8 out of 11 games Texas has looked like hot rotting garbage. It ain’t the three losses it’s this team isn’t very good on a season’s resume. Texas with two losses and an extra victory over rice is still not an impressive team. 2 bad losses - Florida and getting waxed by Georgia. 2 good wins, another convincing (against an oh-fer league team), the rest is complete trash. Texas would not be in the top 10 right now.

we'd be top 10 if we had 2 losses and our SOS was in the 30's.

Texas was only behind the stupid domers in the 2 loss column before the Georgia game, had we finished undefeated we would have ended above all 2 loss teams hell even some 1 loss teams, the idea that it was tOSU that hurt our chances is ridiculous. Hell even in the field of 4 when Bama lost to Texas they still made the playoffs.

I get the argument that you throw the kitchen sink at the committee if we beat the gomers, but it is beyond idiocy to keep talking about an event that again and again the committee keeps ignoring.

That said I loathe this thread you can't tell me the players did not learn of this factoid and did not give Georgia game the proper respect.

I haven’t bothered to follow all of the details and discussion here, but I’m believing that in addition to beating Aggy….any one of OU, Alabama or Ole Miss losing puts us in.

So while each is obviously a heavy favorite…it’s not unfathomable that one of them trips over their own dick

Ole Miss would only have 2 losses and would still be in at probably 9 or 10. Now if Lane announces he's going LSU and not coaching the playoff then I could see the committee taking a look at dropping them out. But yes, us winning handedly and OU or Bama losing would help keep us in the conversation.

Honestly the best scenario is for the Aggies to be pantsed twice, first by UT then Georgia, their schedule is terrible. Two crushing losses in a row can keep them out. That probably means Bama and Ole Miss lose so they make the championship.

I disagree. Right now we’d be about 12. We would have dropped from 1 early in the season looking terrible. We’d drop out of top 10 after Florida and would land 12-15 after the Georgia loss. We are probably 15 on Tuesday as it is (note the two spots we move up this week aren’t available if we were at 12 already). ND stays ahead of us, OU beat bama on the road the same day we were embarrassed by Georgia, OU leap frogs us. Bama probably stays above us. BYU is 1 loss.

The Florida and Georgia losses are BAD.  Now a Texas team that beats A&M with two losses is probably in, but Texas may still need help in that scenario - that’s what happens when you’re mid. If everyone ahead of Texas at 12 won on rivalry week, it’s 2 really bad losses vs 2 really good wins and a bunch of dog shit in the middle.

there’s no way the tOSU loss means nothing (I think the third loss has cost us about 3 spots come this Tuesday), but it doesn’t mean nearly as much as the rest of the season’s terrible losses and terrible wins.

That’s an impossibility. If Texas wins they don’t go to Atlanta.

I don't understand how people don't get this? There's a huge problem in college football and that problem is scheduling imbalance. Do we really believe Indiana, Texas Tech, BYU, Utah don't have more losses with Georgia, Ohio St, Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc on the schedule.

Until games against Long Island and Chattanooga St no longer count towards data points then There's completely no reason to schedule hard games other than for fan enjoyment.

Losing by 7 in Columbus to #1 Ohio St is more impressive than beating 1-9 Samford 56-0. And should be weighted and measured as such.
