Russia remains open to dialogue. Russia remains open to resolving all problems peacefully, through political and diplomatic means.

Russia does not pose a threat to Europe, to European countries, or to NATO. To claim otherwise is absurd, and it is nothing other than a deliberate escalation of the situation, including as a way to cover up a large number of domestic problems at home.

This is what impunity looks like: war criminal Putin openly mocks drones in Europe, calls Europeans' concerns "panic," and compares UAVs to UFOs, reports Bild.

What's more, when asked during a speech in Sochi whether he had launched drones into Denmark, he laughed, waved his hand dismissively and replied: "Okay, okay, I won't do it again. Not to France, not to Denmark. Where else do they fly? To Lisbon." To which the host advised him not to joke like that, saying that Europe has a poor sense of humor.

They've lost 11 generals - we lost 18 to enemy fire in WW2, which was a little bigger than this.

keep in mind, thats 11 confirmed generals that Russia (or sources in Russia) admits were killed by Ukr

In the first 5 months Ukraine claimed 7-8 Generals, gave names,  2 or 3 are on the list today, but several had to be removed because They havent found confirmation -or in the case of the "retired" major general who was a pilot shot down in the 4th or 5th month he didnt count because Russia claimed he stole the plane and took off on his own.

however, I remember someone did some research and almost every single one of the named generals who Ukraine claimed they killed hasnt been seen, shown in correspondence or listed as reassigned since they were named.

1 or 2 may have been reported later as falling out of a window and thuse not "killed" by Ukraine.

Where are the computer servers that run the Russian banking system located?   Are they dumb enough to make those accessible to flamingos and Tomahawks? They have to be somewhere near Moscow…

So one of my older relatives, who has parroted Fox News/Russian talking points in the past, sent me a video this morning that "I need to see" about what's happening in Ukraine and Russia and that it will "catch me up on what's really happening" and that I need to subscribe to this guy and I'm all like

Here We Go Epix GIF by PENNYWORTH

And the name of the youtuber was "Jake Broe" so I immediately did think "oh fuck, here we go" because I figured it was some young dude that might be parroting Russian talking points, but nope.

We've had arguments discussions before, and ironically the guy literally drove M113s in Vietnam - it was only a couple of years out of his life back in the 1960s, but in his den he has several 8x10s of him and his buddies in the Army in Vietnam and with his M113, and he's got a large painting/print of an M113 in the jungle on his wall. He has admitted he's pleased that the M113s have a second lease on life, and I've gotten through to him on that.

Anyways, surprisingly, the video was not terrible. I can't stand the cadence/pacing/whatever, but this video is only about 12 hours old and has 300,000+ views, and that's good.  I don't know that I would listen to him again because I did not learn anything new, but I'm pleased my relative was following the guy, and I would recommend it to more boomer uncles (and dads).

I can’t believe you hadn’t heard of Jake. Dude has organized a few million-dollar fundraisers that go directly to Ukraine. You get used to his strange voice. At least he doesn’t sound like Patrick Mahomes. He allows you to stop following this on twitter (or wherever) and catch up in 30 minute listens a few times a week.

I have probably seen him and moved quickly past at some point in the past year.  I’m glad he’s solid and that my relative has been following him.

The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces struck the missile ship Grad of Project 21631 Buyan-M on Lake Onega (Republic of Karelia, Russia). The missile carrier was en route from the Baltic Sea to the Caspian Sea.

The strike hit the starboard side of the ship’s engine compartment. Additional details are being clarified.

The damaged Grad is one of Russia’s newest and most modern ships, commissioned into the Baltic Fleet on December 29, 2022. Its main armament is the Kalibr-NK missile system.

How the war has changed. The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces strike a missile carrier in Karelia! And no one is really surprised anymore. Because over these years, there have been so many remarkable events, so many feats achieved by Ukrainians, that for many, such news now seems almost ordinary.

We ourselves have stopped fully realizing just how incredible Ukraine’s achievements are. And there will be even more to come. Source: Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces/Facebook

Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Stotskyi - Senior Lieutenant of the National Guard, platoon commander of the “Svoboda” battalion of the 4th “Rubizh” brigade - speaks about life on the frontline today:

“You sit in a burrow underground, camouflaged, you can’t go out into the fresh air. Natural needs - in plastic bottles or bags, no hygiene. You sleep in blankets or sleeping bags next to your brothers-in-arms to keep warm. During the day it’s hot, at night it’s cold.

Nearby there may be dead occupiers lying around - the smell is constant.”

“When we were encircled for almost 70 days, we did everything we could: set up communications, ran wires, put up antennas, searched for food. We picked up things from Russian backpacks when they came close - took canned food, water, cigarettes. We didn’t throw away our weapons, we didn’t surrender.”

“Right now, about 90% of enemy manpower losses are caused by drones, the rest - artillery, tanks, infantry. That’s why drones are needed more than anything else. And we don’t have enough UAVs.”

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić: Everyone is preparing for conflicts. To be completely honest, everyone is getting ready for war.

The only question is which side someone belongs to. And we would like to avoid wars. We would like to avoid conflicts. B

ut I’m afraid no one wants to listen to anyone anymore. Everyone is really and seriously preparing for wars.

A Russian drone strike on a railway station in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy wounded at least 30 people, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday. Russia's army has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure since invading in February 2022. Zelensky called the strike on Shostka station in Sumy "savage". "So far, we know of at least 30 victims" including passengers and railway staff, he said. He posted a video showing a mangled train carriage engulfed in flames with twisted metal and busted windows.

Populist billionaire Andrej Babiš’s triumph in the Czech parliamentary elections is expected to reduce the EU member country’s support for Ukraine. Babiš has said he would review a Czech-led international drive to supply artillery shells to Ukraine, launched by the previous government, and “discuss it with President Zelenskyy” if necessary. “We are clearly pro-European and pro-Nato,” he added to dispel fears he might draw the Czech Republic closer to EU mavericks Hungary and Slovakia, refusing military aid to Ukraine and opposing sanctions on Russia.

Frankly, if the relative you thought was a problem is pointing you to Broe, you’re the problem. You’re doing a piss poor job finding common ground and conveying your message. It would be like you and I arguing about the US supporting Ukraine. Which, apparently, we’ve started supplying satellite intel for air defense locations to help Ukraine hit vulnerable refineries and depots.

How many minds do you think you have changed since posting on surly? I’m pretty confident that the number of opinions that I’ve changed is zero.

We are talking about a boomer who parrots Fox News talking points and who followed Tucker Carlson for a long time.  There’s not much reasoning with a lot of those types.

edit:  He was…not on the side of Ukraine for a long time.  I would love to know what got through to him, but my gut says Trump trash-talking Russia did it.

That would be it. Most people parrot the talking points of their party. Very few people are truly independent thinkers. And the people who are independent thinkers most often get trashed by both sides.

At least five people were killed as Russia launched air strikes in western Ukraine early Sunday, raining missiles and drones on the Lviv region near the Polish border — forcing the NATO country to scramble jets to lock down its skies.

Lviv — only 43 miles from Poland — was pounded for hours overnight by missiles and Russian drones as air defenses fired furiously in all directions to fend off the attack, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said five people died and at least 10 others were injured in the attack. He estimated that Russia launched more than 50 missiles and 500 drones.

“Today, the Russians once again targeted our infrastructure – everything that ensures normal life for our people,” Zelensky said. “We need more protection and faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially on air defense, to deprive this aerial terror of any meaning.

“A unilateral ceasefire in the skies is possible – and it is precisely that which could open the way to real diplomacy. America and Europe must act to make Putin stop,” Zelensky said.

A witness told The Post the latest strike is “definitely the worst hit in Lviv since the beginning of the war.”

For a long time I was a fan of them hammering Moscow in some spectacular attack aimed at the Kremlin.

I recognize now that it would play into Putin’s hands of Ukraine being this scary threat to their existence and would get many Muscovites behind him.

Instead, a steady strangulation of the oil and gas infrastructure builds the pressure up on the large cities and all citizens, and when it happens over weeks and months it makes Putin look incompetent, impotent, and over his head.
