  1. Past hour
  2. I was 25 when 9/11 happened. I had just gotten married that July but I still didn't feel like an adult. I felt like someone doing the things that grownups do like having a job/career, getting married, thinking about home ownership, and contemplating the future. 9/11 was the point where I knew it was time to grow up because the world was forever changed in that moment. I watched it all as it happened. I was at work getting things ready for a seminar my building was hosting. I turned the TV on when my wife called me because the radio show she was listening to on her drive in talked about a plane hitting the World Trade Center. I turned the TV on for a few minutes and then the 2nd plane hit and I knew what we were looking at. We had flight attendants from American in our seminar and they all came out after being paged non-stop by their superiors. They knew people on the two planes that hit the towers. They immediately left and we decided to cancel the seminar. Then the first tower fell. Then the 2nd. Eventually, we all closed up and went home. I didn't break down until a few nights later when the TV show was on with the celebrities and musicians giving tributes to the heroes and victims. I think it was the story of a guy who stayed to die with his friend who couldn't make it down the stairs of Tower 1 because he was disabled. The friend tried to carry him down but it was too much. So instead of fleeing, he stayed to die with his friend. And that story finally broke the dam inside me. I don't think I had cried like that since I was a kid. This is an amazing read about The Falling Man, his story, and the photographer who took the picture. https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a48031/the-falling-man-tom-junod/
  3. Not only would it be impossible, given his rep count, but I'd be against it. He irritates me regularly, but I think he's a good poster.
  4. By the way @Parliament this could be seen as a modern take on Red Storm Rising, and Hackett's Third World War and Team Yankee - it gets into day-by-day actions, ranging from infantry at the squad level all the way up to strategic missile launches. It's actually pretty decent. I've watched the episodes individually as they came out, but watched 15-20 minutes of the compilation above, and I gotta give the guy props for putting it together the way he did. I need to poke around his channel to see what game engine he used and how he did it. Season one - Russia rebuilt after losing in Ukraine, and after a coup of Putin in 2026. Season two - China going after Taiwan (Russia went into the Baltics, China goes after Taiwan to split US forces).
  5. Apparently his last words were “take me out.”
  6. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was one of these Nazi fuckers who also wanted to make it look like the left did it to try to spark a fire.
  7. oh, I hear ya. But I don’t believe that all of those who voted for Trump are Kool-Aid drinkers. Most, absolutely. But in elections were small, single digit percentages decide the outcome, proof that he allied with Russia to steal the election and is probably letting innocent civilians in Ukraine, die to prevent Russia from telling us that has to give pods to at least some of those people. I don’t think that the Rogan Bros are totally in on everything he says. A lot of those idiots are attracted to him because he is a successful winner in their minds. If he is a cheating loser, who is such a wimp he can be blackmailed by Putin, that undercuts some of his attractiveness to that crowd. It doesn’t make any difference, it’s all hypothetical, and we are stuck with the orange toddler in chief until the next election or coup.
  8. I remember well when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
  9. pretty low likelihood of WSJ running complete fiction
  10. The entire coaching staff is getting fired after the season, from trainers to Espada. If Crane runs it back he is going to get crucified in the Houston media.
  11. So I think because of the floods and rain I'm going to push Bali off to a better time. Instead I'm going back to Cambodia. Phnom Pen and the islands. I'll still keep Singapore and if I can maybe add KL
  12. Shared it on here before, I believe, but the single toughest thing for me in the 9-11 Memorial is the child's etch-a-sketch that they and mom/dad had played with the night before. Gut punch. It still sticks with me. It's different for everybody, but for me that was it. God bless the families who were forever changed that day.
  13. There's speculation about groypers. Which...wtf is a fucking groyper.
  14. Never been a big fan
  15. I think this comes down to your disappointment in Wingo's first 2 games. I would say Golden showed marked improvement in his 1 year at Texas. Livingstone is pretty solid on the technical side. Wingo's route running can be hit or miss. Blocking has been sub par, though for some reason Sark seems to bitch about WR blocking the first few weeks of every season. Moore just gets an incomplete for the season. I think you are probably 3-4 games early even bringing the subject up.
  16. My biggest concern is there seems to be an across the board lack of attention to detail on offense. It is hard to say what is causing it at each specific individual, but when it is happening across position groups it becomes a worrying trend. QBs with inconsistent throwing motions, OL taking bad steps and not knowing how to handle basic stunts, WRs running banana routes and dropping the ball, RBs fumbling and missing the right gap, TEs not kicking out the right edge defender, etc. I think it points to Sark not being able to juggle both the duties of offensive coordinator and head coach simultaneously. Perhaps there is just too much for him to do to ensure the quality is there across the side of the ball he takes the lead on.
  17. Building data centers that will produce few jobs.
  18. Virtually nobody doing anything in front of a camera or a microphone for a wide audience is 100% honest. Literally nobody doing it for a right wing audience is remotely honest.
  19. Doesn't sound like that's the case, but who knows. Would've been the smart move; there are cameras everywhere these days, especially on college campuses.
  20. once again leaning hard into the dunning kruger of my movie and video game expertise and my own bias towards what I want to be true vs what may actually be true, I'm having a hard time reconciling the guy who shoots from 200 yards and then disappears into a nondescript vehicle never to be seen again with the guy who carves political messages about "trans ideology" into his ammunition. And also just thinking about how that is exactly the kind of fever dream "they're just like us but the opposite" shit that MAGA folks imagine "leftists" would do.
