Do you FIRE? Financial Independence, Retire Early
Parliament replied to UTGrad98's topic in Business and Markets
Correct. Owned a home sold it, invested the $3.50 of equity I got out of it in the S&P500. Rented this place. It's smaller than the house I had so apple:apple comparison is not possible. But factoring taxes, utilities* etc and it's a winner. Yes I"m not building equity, but my rent has not inflated badly. I'd say half of overall inflation. *I pay my own utilities, but they're much lower. Just not much space to heat/AC. Gotta do your research for sure. My place is very quiet. Got a top-floor unit which I highly recommend. Do that and maybe even find an end unit. I don't see you having trouble. -
QB1 Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts

What do you mean by “You people”? -
If you ever pondered what DeSean Hales would be like if he had football instincts to go with the quickness and elusiveness you would have Bishop.

Holy shit balls is Intel (INTC) Fucked?
TwiceHorn replied to immamac's topic in Business and Markets
Not a bad question. First off, I think it depends on how/who in government takes equity. If it's a sovereign wealth fund, that seems more transparent than opaque parts of Commerce or Treasury. And, ownership even without voting rights still implicates some ability to a) influence management unduly (as in big sell off to tank the stock price) and b) conflicts of interest between the administration and corporate governance, e.g. "winners and losers." And those aren't really present in the case of grants, maybe loans. Again, a sovereign wealth fund, independently managed might mitigate this. But, it is currently well-nigh impossible to have an independent agency in these United States. -
Are you people fucking serious?

Next season the Rangers probably have a really good consistent offense. And they will have a really good closer. But they will have a crapfest starting rotation and overall bullpen. Because that's the way Rangers baseball go. I'll still be here for the punishment, though.

Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts
UncleSonny replied to LTtxfan's topic in Football
Personally I think it’s pretty fucked up that Arch was even trying so hard to score a touchdown there. Players from Sam Houston are delicate flowers apparently. He should have tripped on purpose and pretended the guy tackled him on the 1 like I do with my nephew. I’m sure guys like Tebow and Baker never talked their shit against any opponent outside the top 15 -

So what is the difference between taking common equity for an investment that is considered strategic to US national interests, taking preferred equity (wasn’t that the TARP auto manufacture bailout), and grants or loans? If we assume no voting rights, no governance rights, no other special privileges shouldn’t the government get a max return on the bailout, investment, etc.? Keep in mind I am assuming above board, honest dealings, no side deals for personal profit etc. and shouldn’t we think creatively about how to bring down and tame a $37 trillion dollar debt balance? Seriously, trying to be thoughtful here not either side. -
It was lame. He should've been flagged for it. Now it reinforces the idea that Texas, and specifically Arch, gets special treatment when a ref will rip his ass for something but won't actually penalize us for it. But I moved on from it 10 seconds later. Who cares.
