  2. I’m a bit ignorant on the term 100 year flood or 500 year flood. How is that calculated? Because at least twice in the last 100 years camp mystic has had cabins lost to floods, another time cars got washed away and the camp was badly damaged, another time the guy’s pregnant wife had to be airlifted out. So clearly these aren’t 100 or 500 year events if they’re happening that often. I’ve been really reluctant to criticize Eastland because by almost all accounts he was a wonderful human. But Eastland, by his own admission, knew the risk the river posed. His repeated efforts to get and then replace a monitoring system show that he knew the camp was at risk. His comments about dangerous the river is over the years show that he knew it. He knew that not having any way to monitor the river left his camp vulnerable, but from the firsthand accounts, he was asleep until the NWS flood warning came in at 1am. Even after that warning came in firsthand accounts from his family say that they didn’t immediately evacuate to higher ground. Firsthand accounts from cabin counselors say that they were the ones that made the decision to evacuate once the water in the fucking cabins got too high for them to stay. Eastland’s own words: “I’m sure there will be other drownings,” Eastland said in a 1990 interview with the Austin American-Statesman. “People don’t heed the warnings.” He ignored them. The 6pm NWS bulletin said that more than 3” of rain PER HOUR was expected and dangerous flash floods were likely. The first flash flood warning just to the south at 11:40. The flood warning at 1:15 should have been his signal that it was time to move. At that point their response seems to be little more than what, hope the flood didn’t get worse? There is plenty of blame to go around for politicians and camp management both. But the idea that this was just some fluke, unforeseeable, unpredicted event is bullshit.
  3. they were much closer….. like 1 play from being fucking shutout…coulda easily been 24-0.
  4. I read that post in this voice and thought process
  5. His elevator move was next level
  6. There was a NBC story last week that said the US had four 1000-year weather events across the country just that week -- the Hill Country Flood, flooding in NM, torrential rain in Chicago and I forget where the fourth spot was but there's definitely no climate change involved. None whatsoever.
  7. Evidence would suggest Jagger/Richards aren't greedy bastards when it comes to songwriting credits. Keef's daughter famously noticed the Stones' "Anybody Seen My Baby" was a cop of kd lang's "Constant Craving", however inadvertent, and so they added kd lang and Ben Mink as songwriters.
  8. Last 27 holes for Spiethcoaster best he's played in awhile... two poor putts from off the green in Rd2 resulted in his only 2 bogeys. Nice to see his 6 birdies in those 27 holes... 🤘 2nd Rd Scorecard...
  9. I don't doubt anything you say as being how copyright law works. I just think copyright law seems broken in this case. The song was an amalgamation of creative efforts and no one party is responsible for 100% of what the song evokes in a listener. So the logical (if not legal) outcome would have been for neither party to receive 100% of the proceeds from the song.
  10. Well aspirin is a blood thinner. I’m not going to get caught up on the thin skin and bruising in an 80 yo I’m not going to pin my hopes on the swelling being from CVI. first it’s benign; you just have to wear some ugly uncomfortable socks or maybe have some vein ablations done. Why I think it’s something else: it’s right there in the name, chronic. It does not pop up suddenly. Someone like Trump would have had venous ablations before it got to the point compression socks don’t work So my hope is his peripheral edema is from heart failure. I’ll take liver failure or chemotherapy toxicity as well, or any combination thereof
  11. obtained from ifunny.com I know you aren't really promoting political violence publicly 🙂
  12. Picked him up at the hospital with burns after he lit his single hit pipe.
  13. Chevron won their arbitration case over XOM regarding Hess' interest in Guyana. Both CVX and Hess put out identical press release this morning that "the merger is now complete." https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/chevron-moves-forward-with-megadeal-for-hess-after-winning-exxon-arbitration-17347067?mod=e2tw
  14. Of all the people we pile on as a society, these 2 yahoos are among the last I'd feel sorry for. Not only do you not honor your marriage, but you take it on public display for the world to see. They got the payoff they sought. You get made fun of for being that reckless/ deliberate. It happens. add in the pontification/ selling points in their public profiles, and IMHO, fire away.
  15. As the skies open up.
  16. yeah probably a fake, best fake I've seen though. It's got boobas. There's a whole WSJ article about this letter lmao Funny how even Pelosi isn't into Epstein There's no "list" but all of the evidence gathered has already been destroyed because the CIA and Mossad don't operate under any sort of laws or constitution, they do whatever the fuck they want. https://a.co/d/0d3JhQ4
  17. I liked the first one. It probably suffered being released during covid. Definitely in for this one.
  18. 43 DAYS... JETT BUSH 🤘
  19. Fantastic post and illustrations of the different levels of inundation risk. That's not the point, see this response: Floodway vs. flood plain is really important. And FEMA isn't just pulling this stuff out of its ass. These days, the data is pretty well updated, and they use the HEC-RAS modeling software to show inundation in specific types of events. I've watched animations of it simulating actual floods that occurred, and it is pretty close to spot-on. It's pretty impressive. Bottom line, today, if FEMA mapping shows you are in the floodway....you probably shouldn't be there.
  20. These interactions that Chris Martin has with fans appears to always be filmed by concert goers and posted on Tiktok/Instagram/Youtube. A couple of weeks ago I saw the videos where the camera in El Paso was turned on the fans watching from a hill next to the Sun Bowl. Martin sung a quick, funny song how they watched the show for free. My guess is that someone (or many) posted it online asking if anyone knew this guilty-looking couple. Tiktok must have an algorithm that will quickly start to spread an increasing popular video, especially for a city. And it's the type of video that you would watch 2-5 times before swiping to the next. EDIT: Everything is filmed nowadays and if it has any interest, it's posted online. There is zero expectation of privacy in public. And now that cameras are moving into glasses, it will become even more prevalent. We're not far from a person live streaming as they walk down the street, and AI identifying each person that walks by along with info about them. "Here's John Smith, and that doesn't look like his wife with him."
  21. absolutely true and in the case of mystic, it's true because the bubble inn was appealed out of the floodway and the floodplain to make the map fit the insurance, not fit the geology also, this was not a 500-year event it wasn't a 100-year event this same level of flooding is a 10-15 year event - did you not see the wsj recap on past floods? 1931, 1953, iirc 7 total in the past 100 years
