  3. What more people need to realize is that the Rule of Law, and the norms and "unwritten rules" that underlie it, are simply a gentleman's agreement. That's it. People follow the law and the rules because as a broad society, we realized and agreed that it would be better for us all if we all did so. There have always been outliers. We call them "criminals," and they are typically a relatively small subset of society, and the bulk of society follows the agreed set of rules and punishes those outliers. What you are seeing now is when a significant portion of society, including an entire political party that has a great deal of power, opts out of that gentlemen's agreement. It's a classic philosophical dilemma. Many of us want to preserve the integrity of the game, but you can only do so if you WIN the game, and when the other side has opted out of following the rules, it's nearly impossible to win without also cheating, which destroys the integrity of the game. Imagine that late, vicious hits on the quarterback are banned by both rule and general practice. Then, we play OU, and on the very first play, they send the house and destroy Arch Manning with multiple vicious, illegal hits. And the refs do nothing about it. They then do the same thing to our backup QB. And the next backup QB. So, when OU gets the ball....should Texas continue to play by the rules, or should it level the playing field by also destroying OU's entire QB corps? This is where we are. The rules of the game have changed. There's no going back. Play to win. Give no quarter. At this point, the smart move is also to kneecap their kicker and stomp on their RBs' knees until they snap when they go down.
  4. Twitter highlights of big hit and walkoffs are are almost always from the winning team, so I just went back and watched the two HRs on YES Network on MLB TV: -Commentator (accurately) says Joc's physique has "evolved" a pitch before the HR -After the Jung HR the Color guy says that these losses are like the movie Misery, "Kathy Bates just snuck in and broke your legs again" -The words "back-breaking" used repeatedly Glorious !!!
  5. So he wants to be an actual Slug? Rack 'em.
  6. Zero point zero chance I could get into Texas now. Full stop. At some point, these big state schools are here to serve local kids, and are making it more and more difficult for them to actually get in. But that's another thread...
  7. It’s incredible how deaf and blind the democrats are to this, or maybe just unwilling to accept it.
  8. Or maybe parenting stuff is the core of the process. A lot of these replies support that idea. And the last point is important. Things will turn out. One out of three won't finish where they start anyway, and nothing wrong with that, either. A college degree, especially from elite colleges, is clearly not the only route to success, happiness and contributions to the world. But gaming all day when they need to write instead is generally not the way. Thus, parenting. Also, @troph, I hope you said, "Good seeing you all at the game, too."
  9. One of the best ever Ranger memories. Me and my Yankee fan roomate got completely shithoused and were asked to watch the language several times. I hugged those people after Marlon's slam. My brother called me on the way to the parking lot from Iraq and we celebrated. 2008 was a fun season and we saw the foundation for our early 2010s run
  10. Caught the first two last night and was also interested to see them confirm that Arlen is a Dallas suburb. I said above that I considered Arlen to be Allen and McMaynerbury to be McKinney. It lines up well with them being gone for a decade or so and Arlen is no longer a small town exurb but full metroplex suburb. I’m happy to see it back.
  11. Didn't you hear that if illegals hadn't voted in 2024, Trump would have won Texas 95-5. It's outrageous that Texas has so many democrat congress members. Criminal.
  12. We have and he wants to go to an in state public school for that reason, unfortunately there’s only one worthwhile state school in Texas and he’s got a better chance to get into Cal and UCSB than UT. Crazy.
  13. 100% this. Your major matters. If you want to "find yourself" do that shit on your own dime. To his credit, that is why the oldest boy is doing ROTC and the Guard. He found it, did the vetting, and joined up. He's also in the biz school and knows what it's going to take. He's money-motivated and the transformation from HS to now is amazing Daughter going to a much more expensive, private school. Her grades are phenomenal, so the aid package is strong but she's also going to have to juggle school, athletics, and will probably be an RA for at least two years to cut the housing cost down. We talk often and openly about finances with the kids. Not to guilt them into anything, but explain the reality of every decision.
  14. Hopefully we can get Brooks plenty of snaps in the 3 games after tOSU.
  15. It took months for Mike to hire PRT. So I don’t expect a quick hire
  16. Gotta respect the man, he loves baseball
  17. I feel like misanthropy can be misinterpreted as cockiness. But just because a guy hates everyone doesn't mean he doesn't hate himself too. Maybe every time Sydney lashes out, its a cry for help.
  18. What he lacks in self confidence he makes up for in self awareness.
  19. TIL I learned that I'm now ~5 years older than Flaco was when the Texas Tornadoes were formed. dammit.
  20. I see more Gundy in it, even if Gundy is usually has less energy when talking down his team. But yeah, Dillingham is the right attitude for a Big 12 coach who wants to win consistently. I think ASU really got a good one in him, and he'll probably stick around no matter how much success he has.
  21. I didn't realize this until living in SA and South Texas but you're right.
  22. Abbott is playing games with America's democracy. It's a very bad path that we could go down if Texas, CA, NY, etc start fully rigging the districts to produce a result. Yes this has always happened to some extent but it was kept in check by the courts to stay somewhat reasonable. We could very well see a scenario where these states change their districts but then Trump physically denies the CA/NY Dems from taking their congressional seats in early '27 because he will call them fake congressmen. He will definitely threaten to do so.
  23. “At least they can polish the fenders…”
