Will you still live in the U.S. in 20 years?
Sweetnsourpoke replied to TexArcher's topic in Cloak Room
Interesting topic. I currently live in the US and have been for ten years after living abroad for 18. Loved living overseas. Made many friends and had incredible experiences. Never really planned on permanently moving back to the US but stuff happens.......aging parents, relationship, cancer diagnosis, etc. I will say this, I love living in the US for the conveniences that Americans take for granted.....central A/C, having a car, owning a washer AND A DRYER, good healthcare, etc. Plus, I love sporting events, comedy clubs, National Parks, the food, museums here, etc. America is pretty cool. Having said that, I used to bump into Americans at parties or at the Embassy or whatever and some would say "I'm not moving back to the US as long as Clinton/Bush/Obama is president". I always thought that was dumb as why would you deny yourself a chance to live in a great country because of the Prez. Well, I've changed my tune. I wouldn't leave the US because of Trump but I would because of the people. Americans have changed in the last few years and it's not for the best. It breaks my heart to see what's become of the collective thinking of this nation. The people I knew overseas were just better people......and that's sad. -

I'm good with either place. Here's the link for Bear and the Butcher for reserving 14 or more people. They also have a button to click for 50+ in your party https://www.bearandthebutcher.com/events -
Maybe there's a thread on this somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet. I'd be real interested in a thread about how some of our proprietary Surly humor got started. In particular I am curious about the origins of the "Is HEB open" line. Same for "PM Derka" I know some of this goes back several iterations of the site and some even has roots in the old harridan's site. Ones I fell for when I first hooked in here were the "I did your mom last night" and "PM Derka." So I might be too gullible to deserve knowing how most of these started.

that dodger series, what a time to be alive ! Since sweeping the Dodgers, the Astros are 29-38. Yordan only played 19 of those games. The Astros have gone 1-9 in Framber's last 10gms.

I work with a young fella really going through it. I told him when he got off work today that he was welcome to meet me at Waimanalo Beach to fish. He went and bought a rod and made it there. I sat and listened to him for 3 hours or so. Listening is more helpful than lecturing. I told him I don’t look down on him because I have been in his shoes with alcohol. I guess this morning he also found out his girlfriend had an abortion I believe. He dealt with the day by drinking and being a bottle of vodka to the beach. I did not judge him for drinking I just told him to put the bottle away. I didn’t ask him to pour it out because, and he said this before I did, that he’d just buy another bottle tonight. This is an exceptionally intelligent young guy. Alcohol, and to an extent Adderall and apparently cocaine, are issues. Mostly alcohol though. His parents no longer talk to him, but I did tell him to reach out to them because he is missing so much of his support system. Last thing I said is I am his friend and that anytime he needs to talk or vent about life or share details about it that he can. I do this with everyone I meet in life that is going through it. I hope for the best for him and that he can beat his demons. He has such a tormented soul and does not like himself.

Toyota is already Haas's technical partner. I've been thinking for a while that Toyota will take a larger role in the team moving forward. That makes Horner's move there make some sense imho, if he is indeed headed there.
