Unrest & Violence Thread - Political edition

There's a "non-political" thread to keep up with protests and demonstrations that's primarily intended for right-wing idiots and cowards to lie and spread fear about civil rights movements, and I don't want to bring anything political up in there.

But the political aspect is undeniable, so we can talk about that side of it here. :)

The organizer of the pro-Trump cruising rally that left one participant dead is an Eastern European op.

-------------------------------------------

Kyzik was not well known in Republican activist circles. In fact, Kyzik was not even his real name, according to a review of business and academic records, as well as interviews with family members.

He is Alex Kuzmenko, a 33-year-old architect who lives in a second-story apartment in Meridian, a bedroom community outside the majority-Democratic city of Boise. His YouTube channel featured luxury car reviews before shifting to pro-Trump memes and videos several months ago. He and members of his family — immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine — had almost no political profile before organizing one of the most consequential pro-Trump demonstrations of the summer.

The shooting of Aaron “Jay” Danielson, 39, a supporter of the far-right group Patriot Prayer and a participant in the cruise rally, became a bloody bookend to an anguished summer in Portland and other communities. The alleged assailant, a self-described adherent of antifascism, or antifa, was later killed in an encounter with police.

While I have never thrown a can of tuna fish, you know, he might be right. It does have a nice weight to it, and you could probably get good spin and distance on it if you throw it right.

Not sure why you would buy name brand for throwing though. Generic comes in the same can at a cheaper price.

But I'd bet that Trump has never held a can of tuna or soup in his hands in his life.

The radical left is going to overthrow this country but also they’re a bunch of snowflake crybabies.

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

We love our country more than you, but we need an arsenal to defend ourselves from our country!

Consistent thoughts aren't really their thing.

At least not with just one hand.

^just came here to post that. I can't take this shit anymore.

I reached my breaking point at the end of May. That video, however, is going to activate thousands and thousands of citizens who want to do something to stop what we are seeing from the police. That is sickening to see. They did not care in the least that they ran over the head of a human being.

@dcar00

Someone's ideological framework CAN be connected to their political views and actions, but not necessarily. There are gay Republicans and anti-gay Democrats and religious Democrats and irreligious Republicans and pro-corporate Democrats (lol basically all of them) and anti-corporate Republicans (too few) and anti-racist Republicans and racist-friendly Democrats.

They are different, but often connected, things.

Also, "ideology" covers a much broader spectrum of things.

So specific to the discussion of how people react to the post-Floyd unrest, the ideological pattern from the 1960s anti-MLK crowd to the 2020s anti-BLM crowd is not a political party (as you point out, the parties have switched for them), but and underlying set of ideological views that they share.

- Highly "patriotic" in a very flag/military sense
- Believers in boostraps and "accountability"
- Anti-socialist/anti-Communist
- Pro-tradition
- Pro-police/prison
- Pro-war

And more and more than that, but that should at least give you an idea of how "ideology" and "politics" are different (but sometimes connected) things.
