Perhaps, yes. What's your point?

If your argument is that it would be extremely difficult and would be a very big deal, you and I do not disagree.

Just now, henrygandorf said:

to get this point across, you're suggesting that electing someone from the establishment wing, in bed with the shitty and corrupt dnc who could potentially try to rig the convention, is no different than four more years of donald j trump because corruption is corruption is corruption, and it needs to end.

Michael Bloomberg isn't from the establishment wing of the Democratic Party. What the fuck are you talking about?

I'm talking about Michael Bloomberg, the oligarch billionaire with a terrifying recent record of doing exactly the things we're worried about Trump doing (seeking power beyond term limits, using his outside influence in affairs of state, and using police as a racist paramilitary).

Quote

if bloomberg somehow wins the nomination through some bullshit pulled by the dnc, who will you root for in the general?  i'm not asking you who you'd vote for, i already know that answer.  who will you personally hope becomes president?

Fuck if I know.

Keep reading this thread, guys.  Hell, just the last few pages.

Bernie Sanders has already guaranteed us 8 years of Trump.  It doesn't matter if he wins or loses the nomination, the Trump win is already locked-in.

Sanders doesn't get the nomination?  A significant number of Dem voters who are hard-core Sanders will either stay home or hell, even vote for Trump, because that's what the rest of us deserve for failing to recognize the God Who Walks Among Us, Bernie Sanders.

Sanders gets the nomination?  He's easily attacked and destroyed on matters that will cost the Dems a material percentage of their center-left support.  Those folks may not vote Trump, but they'll sure as hell stay home, because they can't vote for Sanders.

The Bernie bros are going to get their way no matter what happens: they'll either get him as the nominee, or they'll get to pitch a self-righteous tantrum about him not being the nominee (shit, that option may be more attractive to them).

It's not much more complicated than that. And for the next eight months, we're going to get to listen to the Bernie crowd insisting that our only two choices are "Bernie or death!," when in reality, the choice is "Bernie AND death!"  Hooray for us.

Well yeah. Someone who has "rock solid values" is going to have a harder time getting stuff done in corporatist Washington DC. So of course I'd expect that Bernie would have a tougher time than former-Republican, ever-shapeshifting Liz Warren. Or as her great grandfather named her in the traditional family way, "Runs With Elephants".

If he loses he will simply declare that the election was invalid due to the very same foreign interference that he encouraged and will refuse to leave.
Then what? Moscow Mitch and the Republican senate to the rescue? A military coup?

Refuse to leave what, the White House?

There is a complex set of processes that confirm the next POTUS, so unless those are interfered with then it doesn't really matter if Trump chains himself to the Resolute Desk.

The idea that a majority of the US Senate would just say, "OK DONALD COOL!" is laughable. They couldn't even get 100% loyalty on the impeachment acquittal. (To whatever extent the Senate would even matter here.)

i'm just spitballing here, but he could call a national emergency in late october and say that our elections are under attack, and need to be investigated, and that until we get to the bottom of things, the date of the general election has been postponed indefinitely.  then he could assign yet another crony to be the special investigator.

Can he actually stop the states from state elections and choosing federal electors? He sends out the military to stop California and Illinois and New York from voting? Does he jail all the state Secretaries of State?

Do you think the military would actually do that?

It's kind of funny how dumb you guys think I am for thinking a president could buy enough influence to pass a Constitutional amendment and you guys argue that we're a hair away from literal martial law and the US Army rolling tanks down main street for Trump's honor.

Liz hasn't accomplished much of anything. She was never even part of the CFPB.

I'm ready for a Sanders vs. Trump general election.

Bernie's "revolution" vs. Trumpism. Neither movement is going away until it's defeated. Let's do this. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

i don't think we're a hair away from martial law, but i think he's shown a repeated effort to fuck with the integrity of the election process (he's been caught multiple times, and i'm sure there's shit we don't even know about yet).  i think it's telling that mcconnell hasn't even advanced on the bill ensuring more safety in elections.

i think if he declared a national emergency, he could, at the very least, get the republican governors involved in the state's dealing with their elections.  and once a few states postpone them, there would be mayhem.

do i think this is probable or even realistic?  not really.  but i would've said the same about other shit he's already done in broad daylight and gotten away with.  he's essentially made himself a king.  how do you dethrone a king?  through state-run elections?

You don't get to do this when you have been saying Donald is getting 8 years long before it started looking like Bern is going to get the nomination.

This shit is starting to remind me of trickle down economics. Just keep repeating that it will happen. Sanders can't win. Bottom line is Bernie leads in most states and he leads with POC, unions, and has a rabid core to fight in the general. I'm not a Bernie bro, but what the fuck do you "Bern guarantees more Donald" folks suggest? It's Sanders or Bloomberg. We saw what a moderate uninspiring Dem candidate can accomplish in 2016. Whatever they can hit Bernie with they have ten times more shit to hit Bloomberg with. People keep saying Sanders can't win and will ruin the down ballot vote while ignoring that Bloomberg is the worst possible option. He excites nobody and we have tried this gameplan already.

I remember everyone here saying we don't need the moderates who switched to Donald to win, we need someone who will energize the base, but now that that person is emerging we've forgotten that idea.

You seem to think that I'm suggesting that Bloomberg is a winner.  I'm not - I think he gets beaten, too.  My original point -- that Trump is going to get 8 years -- is based on the fact that the Dems need to put up a strong, unifying candidate to win.....and I don't see (and didn't see before) any such candidates with a realistic shot.  But Bernie...he's special -- his mere presence in the race guarantees the ultimate outcome, because of 1) the size of his voter bloc, 2) his negatives with center-left voters, and 3) what his voter bloc will do if he's not crowned king.  Either way, the Dems are going to lose 2-3% that they need to get to win.

More importantly, it's time to see if the youngins and POC will show up and stop the white olds from calling the shots and they're not gonna show out for Bloomberg. We've heard for years now about the olds dying off and the youngins registering in droves as Dems. It has to stop here and now.

I think #2 is grossly exaggerated and I want it proven. If we vote for kids in cages, the destruction of our environment, racism, sexism, cruelty etc all because of "ahhh Socialism!#1!" then fuck us and nobody the Dems put up, not even a hybrid Kennedy/Obama could have saved us. At this point Bernie is by far the best chance we have to win. He's gonna energize the states that have already emerged from the dark ages, and the rest better fall in fucking line.

You have a funny way of showing your support. You’ve stated multiple times you’d support Bernie if he wins. He will. Yet you’re bitching about it every chance you get. Not a positive word to be found.

If he doesn’t get the nomination it’s bc the DNC stole it from him. He will get the most votes and delegates and it won’t be close. Blame the Bros all you like but that’s bullshit if you’d care to see it. You had every candidate on that stage except Bernie willing to steal an election in plain sight. Not a peep from anyone. Yet you wonder why Bernie or bust is a thing. You wonder why his support is so passionate.

The next time I open the voter suppression thread I’ll try not to vomit. Complaining about Russians, the electoral college, gerrymandering etc. All that pales in comparison to what happened on that debate stage. The most blatant form of voter suppression would be nullifying every state that has voted, the majority in favor of Sanders. Every vote cast would be rendered meaningless and everyone is supposed to be prepared to accept that. Such an obvious attempt at a power grab from all involved. Yet no one supporting another candidate cares. So excuse the Bros if we are prepared to do whatever we have to. We will.

Y’all sure like slippery slopes. Wish I could go back and read all that conservative garbage y’all used to spew. Not seeing where it would lead. Fuck when Bloomberg announced there was a goddamn center moderate circle jerk. Not seeing where it would lead. By all means go along with your center moderate positions of fuck democracy. Maybe you can get your way. Be sure you bring your ski gear.

But yes it’s the Bros fault. We are the ones crying. Have you watched the msm? You sound like a Chris Matthews. We won Brisket. Get over it and support the nominee or stfu about it bc your support fucking sucks.

I've never really forgotten the idea that Bernie isn't going to be able to win, no matter the excitement of his particular base.

People voted for Trump because he was going to entertain them and make liberals cry.  He wasn't going to make any radical policy changes that were going to make them scared about losing their 1/4 acre of possessions.

Bernie wants to alter the economic system and actually change things.  Look at how the union guys in Nevada freaked out about losing their shitty coverage.

If Trump were burning five miles of private property and displacing home owners along the border to build his wall, and forcing home owners in sanctuary cities to quarter visiting Russian and North Korean soldiers, Bernie MIGHT have a chance.

I do think that is wishful thinking, unfortunately.  I've been texting a friend of mine (short Jewish guy) who thinks Bloom is the only answer, with total destruction of Dems in the election unless it is Bloom.

I'm not saying the center-left voters Bernie loses go to Trump.  They may just stay home.  Same with the Bernie supporters if Bernie loses -- some will vote Trump, some will stay home.  When every vote matters, that's a difference-maker.

"If he doesn’t get the nomination it’s bc the DNC stole it from him. He will get the most votes and delegates and it won’t be close."

Excellent attitude and approach.  What if he gets MORE delegates than anyone else -- say, he ends up with 30%, and the next closest has 27%....then the next closest has 25%....Right there, we have 52% of the voters who picked "NOT Bernie."  But I guess those votes don't count, right?  Only the 30% that support your choice count.  That's the way ALL of our elections work (except, of course, almost none of them do -- they go to a runoff, and it's not uncommon at all for the top vote-getter to lose the runoff).  But yes, we understand -- if Bernie has even one delegate more than his next closest opponent, then any outcome that doesn't result in him getting the nomination is "THE DNC STOLE IT FROM HIM!"

"The most blatant form of voter suppression would be nullifying every state that has voted, the majority in favor of Sanders. Every vote casted would be rendered meaningless and everyone is supposed to be prepared to accept that. Such an obvious attempt at a power grab from all involved. Yet no one supporting another candidate cares. So excuse the Bros if we are prepared to do whatever we have to. We will."

Yep.  If, say, 60-70% of the Democratic primary voters vote "not Bernie," voter suppression and "rendering every vote cast meaningless' would be....nominating the guy that 60-70% of the voters DIDN'T want.  We absolutely hear and understand you.  Believe me, we hear y'all loud and clear.

"By all means go along with your center moderate positions of fuck democracy."

I'm no Bloomberg fan, didn't want him anywhere near this race, so you can dispense with that straw man.  But I find it FASCINATING that the "fuck democracy" is the position of "well, the majority of voters wanted someone other than the top vote-getter, who didn't get an outright majority of support....so let's use the brokered convention process, which has existed for a long-ass time, to try to find a candidate that the largest group of those delegates (you know, representatives of the voters -- we have a representative democracy) will support.  Maybe that will be the top vote-getter, maybe it will be someone else.  Let's use the process."  Awesome.  Yeah, I don't see why anyone is wary as hell of the Bernie Bros.  Nope, no reason at all.

Bernie would be the oldest President ever at inauguration by 9 years. He is also pretty damn white.

Yeah Bernie is old, I know. But the answer is yes, that's exactly the plan. Bernie may be old, but the youngins love him. He leads primary polls all over. He excites the base and that's how the Dems will win, not by catering to the dumbfucks who watch Fox News but don't really care for Donald's antics.

Yeah, I don't recall seeing ANY Bloomberg excitement around here.

But I'll tell you a Bloomberg supporter who has surprised me -- my 76 yr old mom.  She HATES Trump.  I mean, pure, visceral loathing.  And just in the past couple of weeks, has gotten all Bloomberg-y.  I haven't had time to visit with her about it, but I'm betting pretty strongly that it's the "electability" perception -- she thinks Bloomberg can beat Trump, and that's the most important thing.  I get the priority, I just don't think that Bloomberg is that guy.  The "safe, utterly uninspiring, generic old white guy who can probably beat Trump" choice remains Biden.  Biden has a lotta weaknesses, but I think he holds up a shitload better than Bloomberg.

Just now, Doc Sam Beckett said:

Yeah Bernie is old, I know. But the answer is yes, that's exactly the plan. Bernie may be old, but the youngins love him. He leads primary polls all over. He excites the base and that's how the Dems will win, not by catering to the dumbfucks who watch Fox News but don't really care for Donald's antics.

The reason that Bernie isn't the solution is because Bernie and his supporters don't realize that there's a metric shitton of voters in between those two bolded groups.  Good straw man, though, really.

We saw Bloomberg in 2016. A center right Dem is not going to win, and anything left of that is the same category as Bernie. I refuse to believe that Bernie is the worst thing for the Democratic Party just because moderates say he is. I want to see it. Listening to the media you would think unions, POC, and any non progressive state hates Bernie. The polls say otherwise.
