I would expect Locke to easily find a spot along the path of Adrian Phillips. Good ST contributor who can fill in around db, if needed, after a couple of years.

Love PJ. He patiently waited for that last minute offer and jumped on it. And then was a great role model for the program.

Former Longhorn defensive back P.J. Locke waived by Broncos

By: JEFF HOWE   71 minutes ago

Former Texas defensive back P.J. Locke III has been waived by the Denver Broncos in the flurry of roster moves each of the NFL’s 32 teams is making in order to finalize their respective 53-man rosters for the 2020 season. The deadline to trim the roster from 80 players in training camp down to 53 heading into the first week of the season is 3 p.m. on Saturday.

After not getting selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, Locke spent the 2019 offseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While he didn’t snag a roster spot coming out of camp, Locke’s options were plentiful and included the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL giving him a chance to continue his pro career.

Locke was headed to the XFL until the Broncos added him to their practice squad in December. Although he was waived on Saturday, Locke is reportedly someone Denver is interested in bringing back into the fold as a practice squad member should he clear waivers by the deadline, which is 11 a.m. Sunday.

An honorable mention All-Big 12 selection for head coach Tom Herman as a senior, Locke played in 47 career games for the Longhorns and made 31 starts with most of them coming from the nickelback position. Locke enjoyed his finest season in burnt orange in 2018 when he played in all 14 games with 13 starts in a campaign where he racked up 77 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, forced two fumbles, broke up three passes and recorded an interception.

Locke’s interception came in the second half of an upset of Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, a game in which the underdog Longhorns dominated most of the way en route to the victory, 28-21. The win pushed Texas to the 10-victory plateau, a mark the program hadn’t reached since 2009 and secured a No. 9 ranking in the final Associated Press Top 25, which was also the best finish for the program since in nearly a decade.

Locke fought through an ankle injury to make eight starts in nine games played in 2017. A season in which he was selected as a team captain saw Locke make 39 tackles, break up two passes and force a fumble.

After missing the final four games of the regular season, Locke returned in time to start a 33-16 win over Missouri in the Texas Bowl. The win gave the Longhorns their first winning season since 2013 and it marked the first bowl victory for the program since 2012.

Locke became a mainstay defensively as the nickelback for then-head coach Charlie Strong in 2016, starting nine of 12 games and playing arguably the most consistent brand of football of anyone in the Texas secondary as a sophomore. As a true freshman, Locke made an impact in his first start when he recorded seven tackles, one tackle for loss and forced a fumble that led to a touchdown in a season-ending upset road victory over Baylor, 23-17.
