  1. A distant cousin of Bill's who is trying to get into the fried chicken and rolls business?
  2. My point on my grandmother's death was that they were both legal products -- misused. It isn't the fault of the product. It is the fault of the user. The takeaway is -- some people really suck. Laws and rules will never change any of that. Carry on.
  3. I lost my grandmother to a drunk driver. I have never called for bans of cars or alcohol. I am very much in favor of punishment to those that use either of those irresponsibly. Especially in conjunction with those two.
  4. I've always admired his "Red McCombs quote" Surly handle. Get well soon, MAC!
  5. My point is that the red flag law that Illinois has didn't work in this instance. While I believe that red flag laws are subject to abuse by spurned spouses and GF's and such, I think that it is nuts that it didn't work in this case.
  6. That is a dumb take. Private property rights, anyone? The gubmint has already done what it needs to do on hogs -- open season with no restrictions. Kill them day and night. Trap 'em. Hunt from helicopters. Whatever it takes.
  7. Agreed. There are a number of semi-automatic platforms out there, but you don't have to Google very far to understand why the AR-15 is a popular platform. Simple design. Reliable. Easy to maintain. Interchangeable parts. We use them on hogs out at my deer lease.
  8. Illinois has had a red flag gun seizure law in effect for several years.
  9. It looks like Highland Park parade event may have been another one of those "Known Wolf" attacks. BREAKING: Police Were Told In 2019 That Parade Shooter Vowed To ‘Kill Everyone,’ Did Not Arrest Him https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-police-were-told-in-2019-that-parade-shooter-vowed-to-kill-everyone-did-not-arrest-him
  10. Robert Duvall Best: All of them Worst: None of them Some highlights would be: The Apostle The Godfather I & II Lonesome Dove Apocalypse Now Tender Mercies The Great Santini To Kill a Mockingbird Sling Blade True Grit
  11. Paging @Randolph Duke to decipher and debunk this ranking.
  12. A .223 rifle was the first center-fire gun I bought for and trained my son on at around age 10. That gun was just a low-recoil gun for him to learn proper gun handling and for target practice. We didn't use it for hunting as that is not an effective round for a single shot on a deer. Once he got good at handling and shooting, I got him a .243 for his first deer rifle. He and I have used it many times for that purpose over the years.
  13. Eagles. Life in the Fast Lane.
  14. Not drunk here, but having a couple of fingers of bourbon neat to get the holiday started. Cheers!
  15. We always buy fish and steaks at Costco in Hawaii once we arrive. Then we hit the farmers markets when the horn sounds each day. Good times.
  16. I do that kind of grid deep cut on most any big meats (phrasing!) that I cook. Leg of lamb, prime rib, cabrito, whole hams, pork shoulders and such. It gives some additional texture and flavor to the meat, I think.
  17. I do deep cuts on them, just like I do with a pork shoulder. My theory is that it gets more of the rub and smoke flavor into the meat. Who knows? But I damn sure don't want a bunch of meat falling through the grill!
  18. I cannot imagine buying street stuff these days with all of the fentanyl going on. Jake is a great example. It is easy to wake up dead with that stuff.
  19. Folks in pickup trucks pretty much always wave to other folks in pickup trucks once you get out of the Metro areas. I do, as well. Trying to model after my Granddad in East Texas.
  20. Unless you have done something to affirm an old debt, the "tell them to fuck right off" advice is correct. Any written communications about old, expired debt will have a disclaimer that says something to that effect. The scum/scam debt collectors buy that shit for pennies on the dollar and send out a wide net hoping that some sucker will pay them.
  21. I don't think anybody has mentioned R&K Cafe II in Hillsboro. Solid CFS in the old passenger rail terminal north of the courthouse square. Good food and interesting building.
  22. Mouton's in Cedar Park and Leander is credible. Still hard to beat whatever Jack Allen's Kitchen is throwing down on any given day.
  23. Funny! I actually think both of those chains are pretty good for what they are. It is a guilty pleasure, but I am a huge fan of Bill Miller's fried chicken.
