  1. Perverse mutation of the Black Sheep Effect from social psychology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_sheep_effect ~~~~~ In other fun news, due to ICE lurking near schools, the Doomlet and every other kid in our district has now had their last outdoor recess and PE for the foreseeable future. Motherfuckers.
  2. Well, he's also barely literate, so I'm not so sure that this is the explanation.
  3. Gorgeous - congratulations! Drive it really fast and avoid the police.
  4. This show is pretty funny. I don't recall whether it takes a little while to hit its stride, but I think the humor would appeal to most Surloids.
  5. He likes the morningwood experience.
  6. Yeah, this was a fun show. Felt very Coen-esque at times, but not a ripoff or anything.
  7. Bigs Foot, like Attorneys General.
  8. I think it's all the free imitation crab meat.
  9. That's fantastic. I especially appreciate the woman who tried to turn the melee into a referendum on the education system.
  10. Glen Powell's face seems unusually small. Also a little rodent-like.
  11. Okay, that's pretty funny.
  12. Donna Godchaux.
  13. Donna is gone now, too.
  14. Thanks for posting this! Now if you can also find a way to get my current computer to run on XP, I would appreciate it.
  15. Chicago suburbs.
  16. The owner of the landscaping crew we use just let us know that they're no longer doing any work for at least the remainder of the season because he won't put himself or any of his guys at further risk. It's equally heartbreaking and infuriating.
  17. Alas, I did not interrogate the children about their patrons or sources of funding, but I assume that their escapades were probably subsidized by George Soros. There's no clearer explanation.
  18. We found one potato (purple) smashed on the sidewalk in front of the neighbor's house.
  19. I offered children the option of choosing a potato again this year. A few kids seemed to remember from last year, a few were very excited, some were confused, and parents generally thought it was funny. A few people mentioned having seen the idea on the local news, online, etc., so the foolishness is spreading. I bought a couple of variety bags with red, white, and purple types. Last year, I only had white potatoes, and only allowed one potato per group in order to artificially inflate desirability and cause fights. This year, only one potato of each color was in the treat bowl at any time, and no more than three potatoes (one per color) were allowed per group. There were no quarrels or disagreements this year, so based on this unsatisfactorily small sample size, I guess it's statistically unlikely that four or more kids in a given group will all want a potato. *exemplar potatoes in the above photo are not representative of typical sizes. We had 14 purple (generally the largest) 25 white, and 24 red (generally the smallest) to start. This morning, final tally of the remainders are 8 purple left, 15 white left, and 20 red left. The number of white potatoes taken (10) equals the combined number of purple (6) and red (4) taken. This breaks down to kids choosing the white potato 50% of the time, purple 30%, and red 20%.
  20. Failing to gnash teeth and rend garments over poor kids also enjoying Halloween doesn't mean that we somehow therefore don't care about the contents of our homes. It just means that we're not bothered by kids who come from less fortunate (or rural, or otherwise less densely populated) areas briefly joining our neighborhood and community for the holiday. There is no injustice being perpetrated against you by these children, and I bet most of their parents are grateful for the grace and inclusion. Perhaps you can see the difference in the light of day...
  21. How many beers did you give to kids?
  22. These first two houses are always the best ones in the neighborhood. And this one looks like it's on fire from a block away. I have to imagine that there's a real "Kenny Rogers Broasters Seinfeld Episode" vibe inside.
  23. There might not be very much opportunity where they live.
  24. Pledge class status update as of this morning. And in sad news, we've had a casualty. Was out of town for work much of the week and discovered someone lost a face. Not exactly sure how it happened, but these things are pretty fragile, and you can see how thin and narrow the connecting pieces are. I think I can probably repair it pretty well - likely adding some support to the structure in the process.
  25. Maybe he'll be forced to interact with Robbie - way worse than any physical beating...
