  1. ridiculous giving blanket immunity for anyone protesting. It should be a case by case basis. Even if you’re free to do something, like protest, it doesn’t mean that you’re free of consequences. And if the protestors are not willing to face and accept disciplinary actions, I question their conviction on this issue anyway.
  2. That's a real deep take. I'm sure your 10 second clips from an unknown social media user have educated you on the media.
  3. I was thinking about Abbott and his governing style. At one point, I do think that Abbott had the ability to search for some consensus and/or find nuanced solutions. However he's completely pivoted to hammering home whatever his extreme supporters want. They don't want (new) Mexicans in the state, he sends state military to the border. They want vouchers, he's actively purging the GOP of non-voucher supporting politicians. UT has people/students protesting Israel, send in the riot police. Perhaps his governing policy was like this earlier than I imagine, but Jade Helm 15 really sent him over the deep end. Whether Abbott believed in the conspiracy theories or not, he then realized the benefits of pandering to the far right. IF Abbott decided to find a softer touch or look for consensus before acting, I have to assume that his base would turn against him for being weak. He's now set a course and cannot pivot for any issue.
  4. Since the UK election has to happen by next January, I would think the Tories don’t want to even remotely get wrapped up in anything related to Trump in terms of both being conservatives. At least on paper. The Tories may be resigned to knowing they will lose the majority but hope to keep some close races.
  5. It’s a bit of bad luck for a restaurant when your new employee turns out to like child porn and defiling your food. If you’re the owner/mgr, you’re probably focused on 1,000 other issues, and this presents itself.
  6. This version of the Shogun definitely downplayed the hatred between Protestants and Catholics and between Portuguese and Dutch/English. In the book, the Portuguese were scared to death about Blackthorne and his ship going after the annual Black Ship. Not to mention that they captured Blackthorne at one point and were going to burn him at the stake as a heretic. I’m unsure that viewer today would have fully caught onto that story line. but I also understood this version was designed to focus more on toranaga and not as much on Blackthorne. Overall I liked this series and I have no doubt that any fan of the book can find reasons where any tv adaptation falls short.
  7. If the trump wins, the only people who can work for the federal govt are people who pledge their loyalty towards Trump. This will go beyond the cabinet. I seriously believe that it will be anyone who has decision power in the federal govt. sure, a mail carrier won’t have to make a pledge but any mgmt level will.
  8. Great post. It’s cool if someone has strong reasons to not vote for Biden but I think most of them are looking for justification to vote for Trump. They highlight Biden’s gaffes or stutter when almost every president including Trump misspeak. As for Biden’s stutter, it’s always been there and most likely worsened as he’s aged but there isn’t any sign that he’s incapacitated due to dementia. for selfish reason I’m proud to say that I’m voting for Biden. Life has never been better for me economically. I like to think that a fair amount of that success is due to me, but I’m not in a rush to change the dynamics by bringing in a president like Trump who wants to flip over the table when he enters a room.
  9. Thread took some weird turns with confessions including someone being assaulted by a pedo. I’m out.
  10. Wasn’t a fan of the last episode. Might be worth a second viewing to reevaluate but I won’t be in a rush. Context: I’ve read the book a dozen times.
  11. He is right that there is no reason to use the dating apps from you’ve written about him. At least he is aware of his lack of chances.
  12. Even if most of Trump voters don't care about this trial, Trump has very few voters that he can lose and not impact his chances. It's not like this trial will gain him voters, except with the old guy crowd who pay off hookers. In other words, the trial may gain Trump a few Surly votes.
  13. The cops 100% used too much force. The professor could see that, and she chose to get up on cops who were using too much force. They were wrong but she choose poorly. Even when you're right, there can be consequences. I'm not faulting her for trying to help the situation but the post, that I quoted, seemed to imply that her status as a professor somehow should be taken into account.
  14. The cops are being thugs but she got into the middle of their arrest. It's doubtful that they knew she was a professor and I'm uncertain how her job title would impact their orders.
  15. If a letter or payment is important enough, walk it into a USPS location. Outdoor, standalone drop boxes are targets. And not just with checks. Thieves take everything and most likely discard letters that offer them zero value. for the OP, if you think the theft occurred at a postal box/site, you need to file the complaint with the US postal inspection service. I would be surprised if local cops care or will follow up with letter theft even when it involves money. This situation happened to me, and the bank refunded all of the money, maybe because the thief deposited the check into another bank. Local cops didn't even care that I could tell them the bank account # of the thief. Seemed like an open and shut case to me.
  16. Police need to be more Andy Griffith and less Robo Cop. Not one of them should be armed at this point. Have a nearby vehicle with weapons, in case it's needed. Also tactical gear should not come in Extra Short XXL.
  17. That's strange. None of the 5 blurred photos look like Boebert.
  18. Out of curiosity, would the complexion of the Latino, saying this word, impact your reaction. Some Latinos have dark skin and others lighter. Comedians like Tom Segura and Louis CK are both Latino but look like they’re Irish due to mixed heritage. as a white guy, I stay far far away from any non-African American using the word. Honesty I’m not a fan of hearing anyone use it. If I was at a happy hour with my African American friends or co-workers and it was used more than once, I’m quietly moving away from the conversation. Zero benefit, and potentially harm, in me being there. Ultimately it becomes impossible to universally decide who does and doesn’t get to use the n word.
  19. Hidalgo long tied herself to SJL which probably helped Hidalgo at that time, including in Hidalgo’s last election but there is a price to pay when you pick the losing side.
  20. Would someone pay off an extorter who was completely lying about an incident? It's possible to create a scenario where this would occur but it's far more likely to believe the opposite. I'm not close to the facts of this case, but isn't the entire case going to depend on Cohen's testimony and what Trump knew and arranged? Whether Trump had sex with Daniels just seems like salacious details but almost immaterial. I assume the defense isn't going to disagree that Daniels was paid off by Cohen, who may or may not have acted on Trump's explicit directions. If I'm the prosecutor, I would hate to have Cohen as one of my main witnesses. Sleazy, convicted lawyer who likes to go on TV slamming Trump but previously loved Trump when Trump was paying him. In almost every situation, Cohen has zero credibility.
  21. I used to be a regular palazzo visitor but was never treated well by my casino host. Felt like I would have to beg for comps which I refused to do. Obviously I wasn’t gambling enough to get his attention so I switched to another casino where the host would take care of me.
  22. Had great luck at Caesars craps tables this week that will pay for the next few trips. Kept pressing a hard 8. If only it had hit a 5th time.
  23. The lectern "cost" reimbursed her friend who paid for a girls' trip to Paris. However I doubt that anything comes out of this because I assume it would require a local prosecutor to go after her.
