  1. I’ve got a lot of respect for those tug captains that run the 6x2 and 6x3 arrangements. Crazy stuff. And this time of year the Mississippi is usually nuts with all the snowmelt.
  2. Can you recall an example where having a diverse peer group helped you execute a project, and what were the benefits to the project? Can you recall a project that would have benefitted from a team that had diversity, etc etc. Same type of stuff for the equitable and inclusive. Wasn’t a big deal, I’ve worked all over the world with many different types of local content. But it was really, really heavy on their “DEI initiative”, which they had 10 different hipster looking fucks explain in short videos. I was told that going in, just didn’t think it’d make up a third of the questions. Maybe. Was already consulting for them so doubt it. Lots of them weren’t doing ESG and DEI movements until their lenders that fund them said they had to. Now, it’s super duper important. I’m sure it’s because they really really want to, though.
  3. I’ve owned horses much longer than I’ve had kids, but point taken. I’ve been talking them out of rodeo since they were toddlers, but the fancy equine sports never crossed my mind.
  4. That sucks. We fill up the bin each week, I really hope our community is doing more than 10%.
  5. Is your companies DEI program a forced program? I was asked more than one DEI related question during a fucking recorded video interview within the last year. 2 out of 5 or 6 questions. Was for one of the O&G majors.
  6. The prep, the Dr’s joke about an additional circumcision as I was counting down to night night time, and hitting on the nurses as I woke up are all I remember. Get checked guys. I did because my friend was dying of prostate cancer and we used to have lots of similar gastro issues that his doc told him were clear warnings. I also disregarded my wife’s advice and ate some enchiladas later that day. Was delicious.
  7. This is my oldest. 20 hours a week at gym (replaces school PE) and who knows how many hours at home during the week. But she excels at the competitions (1st overall ~30% of the events while podium on ALL but one event (Covid), took 1st overall at state for her group, etc)). Plenty of adversity, time management, diet/health management, and the fitness aspect is off the charts. The mental focus they have to maintain is unreal for some of the skills. It’s a good balance of team and individual accomplishments. Her passion, her goals, and when it’s no longer fun, it’s over. If grades dip at all, same. It was nice because she was good but not great at any other sports, except distance running, which she didn’t have a passion for. Maybe she can pick that one back up in high school. Now, if I could get my middle one to not love dressage, I’d be in good shape.
  8. I used to work for a company that wouldn’t allow us to use it when traveling on business, which was a lot. Really good at taking the loop.
  9. Yeah, there are definitely issues with the club sport, particularly the ones that go year round. We traded rec level team sports for year round individual sports, but it still has its warts. Luckily, my kids are passionate about their respective activities, and that helps with the burnout. I don’t gaf what they are as long as they are moving and enjoying it. Lots of $$$ and time though, oof.
  10. Sounds like a poorly run league. Ours limited it to 3 coaches/team, which of course they pick their own kid. We did have a team where those three coaches all had top kids one year, and then got a early pic and crushed. Daughter was on that team and they ended season something like 60 runs from the next team. But that was an atypical year. I think they had something like 8 of the eventual 12 all stars for the year. Being the only team that could throw from 3 to 1 was biggest game changer by far. She was also on a middle of the road team, and a team that sucked all season but got it together on the tournament and lost the championship game in extra innings. Sometimes it shakes out unfairly but that’s kind of how it goes when people are picking their own kids. We’ve had the opposite experience. I’m not in a lower income area, however the league is located in one. Both of our closest leagues are, actually. There is a pretty solid range of racial and income/wealth demographics. BUT, everyone with any money bolts after 10U. At almost a 100% rate, it’s odd. My daughters found their preferred sports before that age but we have plenty of friends from the league and it’s been consistent. I still don’t see how club teams are a deterrent. There are some that are big money, but there are “affordable” club teams, too.
  11. Yeah I’m travertine on 3 sides. But think I could sink them just past it, maybe. If you really committed to an anchor, not half assed it. We’re in same boat. Have to leave often and I just turn the system off when I’m gone or pump would burn up in a day. The baskets are chock full in minutes sometimes. You have a link to that tarp?
  12. That seems to be about 10 mins of pollen drop for mine. It’s a rough 3 weeks or so. Any way to attach that thing without the screws in the decking?
  13. I took a few ~250’ tall (long) towers over the Fred Hartman once. 1.2mm pounds each or thereabouts. Took in the neighborhood of 60 axles, 2 pull trucks and 2 push trucks for each tower. It was swaying like a mf when they were coming up that thing. I was legit pretty nervous and hoping the bridge engineer that go is the permits didn’t get his degree from aggy.
  14. Lots of all stars on that list. Can someone whip up a cheeky 2 buttons meme for the occasion?
  15. Unfortunately that’s how we looked up until about 10 days before season close
  16. This is impossible. Food companies make profit, I mean gouge. And for profit corporations barely even pay living wages. Some people even die trying to make it to director. This post tells me so much. I wish you would have posted this years ago, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure you out. I got the healthcare thing, and now, the economics
  17. No it wasn’t, dumbfuck. It was my anecdotal experience, and that was clear. You aren’t really this fucking stupid? Or maybe you work in govt?
  18. Weekend warrior you can do a lot with the 110’s. I’m going on 15 years will a little Hobart 110. I also keep a 50a Lincoln box around for anything thicker. I got rid of the bigger stuff years ago when I realized I can use the shop stuff for anything I can’t handle at home.
  19. We spent the whole last page talking about the 80/20 rule. And yet we still gaf about how they feel their life is going? Maybe they should tighten up and dip into the 20% and find some happiness.
  20. In greenspoint? Say it ain’t so.
  21. Exactly. And as a bonus, I don’t even cry myself to sleep thinking about potentially losing electricity for 12 hours during a once a decade storm, or the price of a bag of Doritos going up 35%. Dreaming about how we can force people to drive cars we feel are sensible, and pondering why there aren’t any builders that want to leave money on the table to build shotgun houses for anyone and everyone who deserves a roof, in town of course.
  22. He actually seems extremely competent when discussing his field (comp sci/tecH iirc) in other threads. How you can work for a for profit company, and invest in for profit companies and then also believe everything you feel is overpriced is gouging or should be provided by Washington has got to be one hell of a struggle.
  23. No, I’m under the impression we have a bunch of folks between 12 and 30 who are having a hard time figuring out what 10’s (hundreds?) of millions around them have. Even after (presumably) being raised in a better house, in a better hood, while receiving a better education, and having more opportunity and technology at their fingertips than any preceding generation, they cannot find “happiness”, however that’s personally defined.
  24. Yeah, time flies and I realized that was some years ago since I was running the roads solo. I could have also said “a few hundred thousand less” if that works for you. Surprise, people make considerably more a decade into their careers.
