  1. President Biden should send active duty Navy, Army, and Marine troops to remove the floats and razor wire and dare Abbott to try to stop them. Fuck this "sue them and let the Supreme Court rule that states have the right to murder people at their borders" shit.
  2. Why, 3 and 8, of course. Am I allowed to use a stick, club, or boat oar to keep the others from getting out?
  3. I saw on the news last night that Banks will not receive a pay-out or severance package. They've also started calling it a resignation, when she clearly said retirement. I don't think that she knew about the revisions and saw that she was going to be the scapegoat. I think she objected to what was going on and hit the bricks. Being who and what they are, aggy will smear her for not playing along.
  4. And the F-16s can haul and shoot nearly anything in the NATO inventory. Good to have that capability.
  5. There may be some haggling about Wagner = Russia, but an invasion from Belarusian territory will definitely trigger Article 5 on Belarus. Any Russian assets in Belarus would be subject to "accidental" destruction, or intentional if used to assist the invasion. If invaded, I don't think that Poland would balk at taking out all military assets in Belarus, just to be sure.
  6. Next time I call in sick I'm blaming an imbalance of the humors.
  7. I was just struck by the fact that 150 years ago Radical Republicans were the ones trying to complete the task of removing slavery and all of its vestiges from our country, while now Radical Republicans are the ones trying to whitewash and downplay slavery. Any time the Republican party uses the "Party of Lincoln" label, they should spontaneously burst into flames. They couldn't be any more the opposite of what they were.
  8. But they'd still take the fucking $50,000 and claim that it's their tax money, anyway.
  9. But the "I"s are capitalized. It should read "i only type in lower case because i hate capitalism."
  10. If @Walden Ponderer was still at aggy, it would be interesting to get his take on this.
  11. Over the past several years I have hired at least five operators with the industry, intelligence, and education to train to replace me. They have all moved on to more lucrative endeavors. I get pressured to train others with less on the ball to replace me, but if the potential isn't there, I can't manufacture it. This not just my department, it's all of the municipality at which I work. ETA - Pertinent to this thread, one of those five moved to North Carolina, another to Oregon, and another to Colorado.
  12. You have no idea. Wait, you worked at a wwtp before. You do have an idea what's involved. Never mind.
  13. My daughter (UT grad, born in Nacogdoches) and her fiance moved to Oregon a few months ago and have no intention of ever moving back to Texas. My wife and I are going up to see them in September, and we wouldn't come back if we weren't needed for her mom and my dad. They are both closing in on their final days. Once they are gone, all bets are off. I hate that the state that I love has become so insufferable.
  14. This will probably delay his promotion to PFC. And I'm sure that Corporal is right out.
  15. Neither the Battle of the Bulge nor Pickett's Charge ended their respective wars. WW II went on for six more months in Europe, and involved hard fighting the whole time. The Civil War lasted almost two more years after Pickett's Charge/Gettysburg, and involved many more horrific battles. I don't think that anyone is saying that crushing the Russian offensive in the north will end the war, although things could happen where it could. It's more likely that it will further deplete Russian resources and give Ukraine a better chance to win the war and end it earlier than they otherwise might. We'll have to be patient and see.
  16. No ketchup, please.
  17. In much younger days I worked in several food establishments. More often than you would think someone would pound on the door or the drive through window 15 or 30 minutes after closing time demanding that we open up and feed them. It was fun to ignore them until they left. Or come in just before closing and camp out for an hour or more. At one place we started turning off the TV at closing time, but some of the assholes would turn it back on. At another we had to unplug the jukebox and video games at closing, whether someone was playing or not. Fuck around, lose your quarters. I don't give a shit.
  18. I'm sure that they have enough for at least one or two executions. How much ammo the guys behind have is not as important as how much ammo the guys that they are keeping in line think they have. After the 20th Maine made their bayonet charge down Little Round Top, they took quite a few rebel prisoners. One of the men detailed to take the prisoners to the rear approached the regimental commander, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, and told him that he only had one bullet, and some of the others had none. Chamberlain pointed to the southern prisoners and said that he should make sure that the prisoners didn't know that.
  19. Damn, that's Mr. Snek.
  20. My dad's refrigerator is exactly as described above, except the light no longer works, and you can't get to it to replace the bulb for all the stuff in there. The only thing that you can always count on being fresh is the two gallons of milk. He doesn't drink tea or water, just milk. I like milk, but damn. That's too much. Sadly, other than the refrigerator references, too many of these describe me. Every cable I've ever owned - check. Enormous quantities of random screws, bolts, washers, and nuts that never match the task at hand - check. "The Drawer" with miscellaneous items dating back to 1988 - check. Yep, I'm old.
  21. If my I remember correctly, they are the group that tried to shut down The Battalion. You are very correct: they do not want free speech on campus. Or anywhere else, really.
  22. Not that I've ever found a sack of gold coins anywhere, but if I did, and found it on my land, I would announce that I "found" it in another state, in a manner unconnected to my habits and activities. I don't need assholes digging up my place and tearing my stuff up looking for another bag. Hmm. Maybe I would let on like I found it on my ex sister in law's place. Not come out and say it, just an implication here and there. She would be delighted to have the visitors, I'm sure.
  23. That reads to me like a long way to say, "Other than, you know, the thing, you know, about her, um, appearance, you know, we just want a person who will only write and teach what we want written and taught. Not that other, inclusive stuff. No gay stuff, or women's rights stuff, or minority stuff, or criticism of our power structures. And we want someone with the right, you know, appearance" I bet that the next successful applicant is white, has worked in "conservative media", and is offered a long term, tenured contract. You know, merit based.
  24. I love the sound of secondaries in the morning. It sounds like... victory.
