  1. My wife and I mailed my dad a postcard and a letter from Eugene, Oregon Monday, September 18. We left the 19th, driving back, and arrived home Saturday, the 23rd. He called today to tell us that he received the card and letter today. How the hell can I take my time and drive home in five days, and the US Mail takes 10 days? They must have gone back to ox-carts hauling the mail.
  2. This is the blessing and the curse of being a wastewater operator. The field is recession-proof because as long as people eat, they shit and will need you on the job. But in case of a hurricane or massive killer ice storm, they don't stop eating and shitting, so you still have to be on the job, even when everyone else is bugging out or home and warm. Anyway, thank you all for the great career. Now my random thought: last Saturday we went to the farmer's market in Eugene, Oregon with our daughter (no pictures ever taken). A couple of booths had Marionberry jam and jelly, so I had to get some. When I asked if it included crack, the purveyor didn't get it and was offended.
  3. From somewhere between Amarillo and Fort Worth, on the hell that is 287... TEXAS!!!
  4. Hopefully someone in that thread asked him why such an essential repair facility, occupied by two valuable naval assets, would be a soft target. Repair facilities are strategic assets that are primary targets. As such, they should have robust air defences. He's a moron writing to sway morons.
  5. Air defense systems are caught between a rock and a hard place in that they cannot effectively use their radar nor launch their missiles from a tree line or other cover. They have to be in the open to work well. The hardened drones are perfect for taking on SAM systems. They are small, so they are less detectable both visually and on radar. If they are stealthy enough, even the SAM operators may not know that they are in the area until shit starts blowing up. I love it when the missiles turn into huge, scary bottle rockets.
  6. Startled the shit out of me. C'mon, man!
  7. That's a pretty big raid, and in daylight. Seeing the guys on the bank at the end standing out in the open makes me think it's a training exercise.
  8. Well I got better.
  9. Anywhere along the Upper Arkansas from Salida to Leadville. Lots of hiking, fly fishing, and other outdoors recreation, the mining museum and Matchless Mine in Leadville rock, and scenery every direction you look.
  10. I've got a touch of the dire rear. Dehydration and my anus feeling like it's been sandblasted combine to make me very surly.
  11. Almost unbearably cute.
  12. That and not having to keep it quiet.
  13. From on the road to my in-laws in east Texas FIGHT!!!
  14. Look, y'all, it's really this simple for flatty, daltx, and all of their ilk: these deaths are just the cost of them retaining their right to own whatever gun they want, in whatever quantity they want, to be used as they want, up to and including shooting government officials. This cost is entirely acceptable to them, and you have no argument which will move them from this position. They'll only change when they get sick of the carnage. I don't think that will happen anytime soon.
  15. That's astounding. What a maroon. He's obviously never seen the old vaudeville routine "Just Pay The Two Dollars". I just thought of a question for the Surly legal minds. My wife works for a title company and reviews public records all the time. She has told me before about people who have filed elaborate documents renouncing their citizenship, demanding refund of all taxes paid, etc. My question is: what real impact, if any does such a document have? Does it remove their right to vote? Are they legally allowed to work in the US without a green card? Or are they just engaged in mental masturbation? Because if it really does remove their citizenship, I want to find out who they are and start fucking with them. Calling their employers and asking if they have green cards. Or, better yet, calling ICE on them. Objecting to their names on the voter rolls. That sort of thing.
  16. Invalid. No Grape Nehi, no Grape Shasta. When my parents took us camping, we loaded a cooler with various flavors of Shasta. My little brothers and I fought over the grape and orange. Shasta cola, rootbeer, and lemon-lime sucked ass, but grape and orange rocked. Of course, nothing holds a candle to the OG, Grape Nehi. With a Grape Nehi and a banana Moon Pie, six year old Scheiss was in tall cotton.
  17. I looked at my gauge this morning and had 0.4 inches in it. It ain't much, but I'm still happier than a cat scratching on an expensive new sofa.
  18. Damn NFL games making my Sunday 10:00 local news late.
  19. I was right there with you on resisting, but his bullshit in this thread pushed me over. Life's too short for me to get worked up about an idoit, and I learned long ago not to try to teach a pig to sing.
  20. What kind of stupidity does it take to believe that anyone who wants to improve America, but in a different way than I do, wants to destroy America? What kind of stupidity does it take to conclude that the party doing the most harm to the American electoral system and individual rights is the party that does NOT want to destroy America? Put the idiot on ignore. I know that I won't miss seeing his shit.
  21. They did that in Afghanistan, too. Fuck Russia.
  22. Two short bouts of rain in south Brazos county. Probably not more than 0.1 inch, if that, but it dropped the temperature to 73 rain cooled degrees. I'll take whatever I can get right now, and this is better than I expected.
  23. I always appreciate a Doomlet update. His creativity is awesome.
