Yes, because he was going to be the 3rd string QB next season. Maybe 2nd string.

That’s the point. Talents like JQQ aren’t going to ride the bench for two years. This happens at every school in the country that stacks top QBs. Once they realize they aren’t the guy they’re gone.

I'm not advocating for him to ride the bench all of next year. If you read upthread I made the point that Herman and Co. might not even be here next year. There isn't really a guarantee that a new staff wouldn't at least give him a look - even just in spring ball.

Every 9.95 has said Card is way ahead in development.

This isn't shocking news. JQJs ceiling is high but he was always going to need development as a passer. Card was much more polished as a passer coming of high school. The fact Yurcich wants a pass first QB it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why this staff is much higher on Card.

Herman sucks and so does this coaching staff but they didn't do anything wrong here. Card is a very good QB and when you sign two good QBs in the same class one is likely to transfer once they realize they're the 2nd option.

I would think that a staff that has it's shit together would want to/be able to convince JJ to work his ass off in the offseason and come back ready to compete and win the job.

Based on practice reports Jackson has a long ways to go as a passer. People are also undervaluing Card as an athlete. He’s very mobile.

I get people are pissed with Herman but you’re just finding something to bitch about. Texas signed two top QBs in ‘20 and one was always likely to bounce the moment they realized they weren’t the guy.

It doesn’t work that way unfortunately and it’s not just a Texas problem. Top QBs want to be guaranteed the starting job.

Somebody can go find the Max Olson tweet that discussed this. It was an insane stat on the number of transfer QBs.

I guess I just don't give much of a shit about 9.95 practice reports. Until we see both of these guys in meaningful game action we aren't going to know much about who is the best QB for the program going forward.

The practice reports weren’t far off from what people expected coming out of high school.

Everyone knew JQJ was an athlete that needed development as a passer. His development timeline was always going to be behind Card’s.

I would love to keep JQJ to see where he ends up in 3 years but that shit doesn’t happen these days with the transfer portal.

Fleeing a sinking ship or doesn’t wanna compete for a starting job

The problem (for Texas) is that if he goes to SMU it's going to indicate the former. Card, JQJ and Stone are all similarly rated prospects. He can't beat out Casey Thompson but he's going to beat out Preston Stone?

Are you regarded? Preston Stone is ass and he’s a true freshman. Of course JJ has a better chance of beating out him than Card and Thompson.

Lol. Stone sucks. Couldn’t even win the starting job at SLC/Highland park wherever he was so he went to that private school.

Major lol at whoever upthread said people undervalue card as an athlete. This entire board has been clamoring for him to switch to receiver since high school. Everyone knows he’s a great athlete.

JQJ may be the worst passer of the bunch but he has the closest Ehlinger mold of the 3. Bulldozing QBs with ok arms are true weapons if used right in college. We’re looking at Thompson starting for the next 2 years anyway so it may not matter much who’s better or who stays between Card & JQJ.

Wasn't JQJ rehabbing a serious knee injury and he fell behind?   Weak knees may not be a good recipe for being a bulldozer at QB.  Thompson is not going to beat out Card.  Card is a good comp for Jarrett Stidham.  Stidham plays in the NFL.

Yep. Top programs tend to have QBs in the wings just waiting for their # to be called.

Which is why letting Samples go was kind of a fuck up regardless of whether their handling of the QB room was or not. But you already underlined the real fuck up - which is another year of shitty results that doesn't keep any of these kids excited about the program. They watch (insert regional team here) play and think "hey - that looks like more fun AND I could move up the depth chart!"

This is it. There’s no real reason to stick around here. Our program and leadership is weak so why not go to SMU to get playing time and also win more games. There’s just not a lot to be excited about at Texas. Lose 4-5 games a year and not get developed as a player.

Or go to SMU, still go 4-3 in conference and play for nothing.  This isn't an analogy I'm going to feel bad about.

Utah. Weird flex but okay. I guess there must not have been many schools willing to promise him he’d stick at QB. Rising is going to be, what, a Junior next year? He’ll still have to sit for a couple years. Or maybe Rising will transfer again.

    I don’t understand this at all...SMU made sense...Utah...? Why?

Card at Texas, Stone (lol) at SMU. He doesn't wanna risk losing a chance on competition.

It's basically Cam Rising coming off an injury and a bunch of walk-ons.

Makes you wonder why he even committed to Tim Harman in a 2 man class to begin with.

We haven't bitched half as much as we should have concerning Turtle Tom. We gave him nothing but support and we were played as fools by that fraud. As far as I'm concerned, it's the duty of everyone who loves Texas football to post crap about him here, Tweet, call radio stations, send emails to CDC, do everything you can to call out that loser and help GET HIM OUT OF HERE.

wtf? Never would have guessed this one. Was hoping he'd at least wait to commit somewhere bc he'd be perfect for Urban or Mullen's system

He would probably do well in Kelly's system as well.

Makes me wonder whether Rising’s injury might be more severe than thought previously.

That could be a selling point, no?

I was all ready to talk smack about SMU because that was the logical place--Dallas and he could help recruit Duncanville and the Metroplex for players.  Nope.  Not even the same state, region, culture.  Wish him well.

    Lol what a fucking idiot.

Have fun (maybe) playing QB at a school that’s not any better than Texas and in a conference no one cares about. This really makes me believe he’s running from competing with Card; didn’t really think that before.
