Basketball has the dumbest discourse of any sport. I'd say it has the stupidest fans, but it's the same people who watch football. They just say fewer stupid words about football.

When I read "The Jordan Rules" and saw all this talk about how in 1990 people thought Jordan was just a selfish scorer who could never win, it shocked me. But we've gotten a lot dumber since then.

Why is it the nation is capable of watching a football game and analyzing where teams are weak, what teams did wrong, or how coaches made mistakes, but when a basketball game ends, every discussion is who's the GOAT, who's a superstar, and will X ever win?

I would have thought the best offensive player in the NBA possibly being overweight and drinking beer would have made him a Surly Cult Hero.

No kidding. What has happened to us, collectively? Where are our priorities?

Easiest way to know Luka is good enough to win the title? Swap Luka and Tatum and the Celtics still easily win the championship!

GOATs like Jordan and LeBron needed the right supporting cast. Pippen, Wade, AD etc

yeah i’ve still got jokic and giannis as the top two and embiid next.

I mean, availability matters. This was the first time Giannis has been hampered, but hard for me to put a dude who's never been past the 2nd round in the East as a Top 3 player. #3 sounds about right for Luka.

Jokic and Giannis are very reasonable takes. I can’t imagine there are many GM’s who would have Embiid over Luka given his injury history and annual disappearing act in the playoffs.

i agree with both of y’all. i would take luka over embiid if i were starting a franchise.

btw you could make a case that the five best players in the nba are from serbia, greece (by way of nigeria), slovenia, cameroon, and canada.

Top 2 is a stretch

I've got him#2. I'd take him over Embiid every day. Who are you taking over Luka? Maybe Giannis, but nobody else.

Jokic and Giannis are the 2 obvious ones, you know 2 guys who have actually won MVP and a championship. Maybe not Embiid but only because of health reasons dudes a 2 way monster when healthy. One could even make the argument for Steph but I won't be the one to do it.

Steph is old. Like LeBron, still very good but not near his peak. I would go Jokic and then Luka. An argument can be made for Giannis, but not anyone else, IMO. Embiid shrinks when it matters most. And he plays like he's a foot shorter than he is.

You mean like fouling out in game 3?

Embiid shot 23% and 11% from three in the fourth quarter this year’s playoffs. The crazy thing is that isn’t even his worst playoff statistic.

Not sure if it's Mavs hate or Luka hate. Great player, but easy to dislike.

I get people not liking him, but downplaying his ability is just dumb.  If I had to choose between Wemby and Luka today, I'm probably picking Luka.

No one is downplaying his ability we're just calling him a fat lazy toad that no one likes

Nah.  Wemby joker luka

I'm going Jok, Luka, Wemby. But no bad answers there.

Despite him being dead for 25 years, I'm going Wilt, Jokic, Luka, Giannis, Wemby, Embiid.  That's how dominant/great Wilt was.

I don't get it.  But, I don't have Instagram, so it forces me to watch in a muted tiny window with no fast-forward or rewind or sound options.

Btw, Instagram is the worst when it comes to sharing links.

Twitter/X was a very good shareable media-player but it got banned on this forum.

No shit he was 18.  It was inevitable that he'd gain weight as he got older.

The issue is he's not Lebron with his offseason workouts.

Apparently, Luka has 25 dunks his rookie year. He's had 2 total in the last two years. That's pretty concerning.

To me, there's absolutely zero excuse for an NBA star to be overweight.* A little out of shape is one thing--not great, but he's not the first young player to not be a gym rat--but downright plump? Luka can hire a full-time chef to cook him delicious, healthy meals and not even feel it financially. A decent diet, even mixing in the occasional beer, and playing high-level basketball 3-4 times a week should make it almost impossible to gain bad weight.

*Jokic is the alien exception to the rule

jokic is a good comparison, because he too has gained lots of visible weight since his rookie year, but it hasn’t affected his play or stamina at all. luke definitely used to be much more athletic than he is today.

That said, if there's somewhere that I can place a bet that Luka comes into next season lean and in great shape, I'd be all in.

dead serious, if he doesn’t spend as much time as he can working out with lebron this offseason and showing up in great shape, then his legacy might be cooked.

whats extra weird about that, is that if that is the case, then dallas could be justified in getting out ahead of that…if they’d simply have had an actual bidding war for luka as opposed to just handing him to the lakers in exchange for mr.glass.
