3/15 Debate Thread - Joe Biden's CNN Coronation?

Featured Replies

Grumpy-Old-Men.jpg

Predictions?

Mine:
- Joe will beat senility-level expectations and be just cogent and clear enough for CNN to declare him imminently fit for the presidency.
- Bernie will let multiple openings for nasty attacks pass.
- Joe will either outright lie about his own policies or express a severe misunderstanding of them on multiple occasions.
- Bernie will come across better, to little/no effect on voting outcomes.
- Joe will claim to have been responsible for something he wasn't.

Bernie: Don’t worry it’s all going to be free.

Man... would've been nice to have one of those under-75 centrists against Bernie here.

Dana and Jake trying hard to not let this get into an actual debate.

Say what you will about Biden (and I would likely agree with a lot of it), he has by far the best chance of beating Trump.  And that’s 99% of what matters in 2020.

If we just say this then it becomes true?

How confident were you about Hillary?

No, you’re thinking of “Bernie will bring out the youth vote!”

Joe desperately defending private health insurance.

Socialized medicine in times of pandemic.

No pandemic? Go fuck yourself.

I think turnout Tuesday is going to be very interesting.

What the fuck is Biden talking about? We had 4 or 5 cases of Ebola in America. We didn't call the military into Dallas.

Joe with his “Are you crazy Bernie?” look at Bernie.

Joe is awesome at heightening the stakes and aggrandizing his position in events. Very useful political tool.

They should never allow audiences to a debate again.

Yeah, this is way better.

Why are they doing this shit right now. Like does anyone give a shit?

Joe really doesn't want to focus on anything further back than 2 weeks or further in the future than 2 months.

Bernie should never say "to the future!" again, because that was 100% Doc Brown.

Or say it all the time because it was kind of awesome.

Bernie is dead wrong on the "bailout" in 2008.

And Joe is destroying him on it.

Yeah he is clearly uncomfortable talking about economic issues. Definitely out of his element and sounded foolish

Yeah.  He is.

Bernie and others can hate the "too big to fail" line all they want, but it was absolutely true.  Had AIG fallen, the entire world economy would've gone with it.  And AIG's problems weren't of their own making -- they got caught holding the bag on credit default swaps that weren't rated correctly for a lot of reasons.  And AIG paid back the entire loan, with interest, years ahead of schedule.

Just this last thing alone is complete horseshit. Those paybacks were at sub-inflation interest rates and paid back with other government loans.

it's my hope and I want it NOW

Bernie should just pivot anytime asked about economic issues - it's his weakest area.

No, they weren't.

You can like someone and not choose to be wrong along with him.

All he's gotta do is say he won't veto progressive legislation and I'm in that booth for him no problem.

But imagine Trump trying to argue a policy position. It would just be, “Wrong.” Or, “nasty, nasty person.”

This is exactly what needed to not happen.  That's why I totally expected this would happen.

"We're gonna have all the best policies.  Policies?!  Nobody knows more about policies than me, believe me."

Good news is nobody outside a handful of political junkies is actually watching

Do you know how rare presidential vetoes are?

If progressive legislation passes, Joe Biden will sign it.
