Why would ownership volunteer to double the league’s losses

But viewership is up and tickets says are up and prices for a franchise are up.

That is what I have been told on this thread at least.

Houston had the first WNBA dynasty with the Comets and there has been a lot of desire and interest locally for them to come back. It’s shocking markets the size of Houston and Miami got passed up.

Agreed on HOU.     They should have brought back the Comets.    As far as MIA goes, they sometimes have trouble filling the arena if the Heat are not good.   There may be too much to do down there for a W team LOL

Good grief.  This game is on Prime.      I fucking hate when the games are on there.   There is little to no notice as to where to watch the game.

lost $40 million, 450 rostered NBA players...

That works out to just under $89,000 per NBA player that goes to cover the WNBA losses

So basically a night in Vegas or a couple of trips to the strip club per each NBA player.

Shouldn’t they be able to write it off as a charitable donation on their taxes?

In the words of Will Ferrell's character James King, "You can't use the strip club as a home office deduction, you are just looking to get audited."

Detroit and Cleveland have history as they both had teams previously.   Being from Detroit I've seen firsthand there has been a long running push by fans to bring the Shock back.

And why did they leave? Were they selling too many tickets?

Houston once had a team, a damn good one that was the first "dynasty" in the WNBA, then Les sold them, they got bought by a Mattress Max knock off, the big three left, Van Chancellor left, the crowds left, and so did the Comets.

Economic Darwinism at its finest because when they won they sold tickets.

I think Mattress Max is the knockoff.

Max is actually a decent knock off, maybe something you might find off Harwin, Hilton on the other hand is something you buy out of a guy's trunk on the roadside next to the guy selling carpets, another selling lemonade, and another with rebel flags and fire wood.

My dad and brothers and I are currently discussing who would win if you had a gay vs. straight WNBA all-star game.

My first point was that I don't think the sexuality is all that black and white - but if you HAD to assign players...

To kick it off with the big names - Gays get Breanna Stewart, Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones.

Straights get Napheesa Collier, A'ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark (allegedly).

We are all in agreement that it would be a great game.

I think we have the new all-star format!   Get the commish on the phone
