All true and yet they still got their shit pushed in by 78 year old Joe Biden. They created this and now hopefully it kills them.

They still picked up seats in the House and held a few Senate seats they were expected to lose. They'll remain extremely competitive as long as they can keep the Trumpers under the Republican umbrella.

Establishment GOP types are apparently the last to recognize what they did to their party. They courted stupid, fundamentalist, and angry under the naive view that an irrational mob continuously whipped into a lather by fascist propaganda would be satisfied by low corporate taxes and reductions to government social and educational programs. Unsurprisingly, the mob turned on the party’s elite leadership when it balked at the idiocratic revolution, and many centrist fiscal policy fetishist voters now seek asylum with the Democrats.

Some Republican politicians will slide right into right wing authoritarianism and not miss a beat. But any that think they can continue to pay mere lip service to fascism are about to experience the folly of their deal with the populist authoritarianism devil. These assholes created a monster.

These.

Many sane citizens on this board hope that the GOP can come to its senses, and go back to just being a mildly racist party for oligarchs.  That hope is in vain.

The GOP establishment hopes the same.  That hope is in vain.

The GOP doesn't stand for anything BUT batshittery and cruelty.  It is the entire brand.  To push anything else is as stupid and pointless as pushing McDonalds as "the best salad restaurant!"  Sure, there might still be a salad on the menu somewhere, but it's a burgers, fries, and nuggets restaurant.  Calling it anything else is just lying to yourself.

Almost all of them already have. Only 10 Republicans in the House voted to impeach Trump for the coup. Maybe 5 Republican Senators at the most will vote to convict. That's it, they're the only ones in the party that haven't already slid all the way into fascism (and one of them is Liz Cheney, who is pretty fucking fascist). Even their few "good" ones left are monsters.

This.  Just count how they voted when the question came up -- "are you cool with a violent and deadly fascist revolt that tried to decapitate a branch of the government?"  They overwhelmingly voted to excuse it.  There is no Civil War -- Civil War would require a meaningful opposition.

145-61 is clinging?

Yes, because in these caucus elections/confirmations, if you don't have unanimous or near-unanimous support, your future in these kind of things is kind of murky.

Think of it as a vote of confidence.  She doesn't have (even with a secret vote) an overwhelming majority of her own party that support her.

She isn't getting kicked out of the GOP, but she was put on notice that she and her kind days are numbered.

To edit:  On November 17, 2020, she was re-elected without opposition to remain in her position.  On February 3, 2021, 61 of her cohorts voted to remove her from that position.

When the establishment of your party believes in nothing, does nothing for people, and only cares about power, they are gonna lose out to a passionate cause, even if it ends up being a conspiracy theory full of dumbfuckery and racism. The GOP civil war ended over 4 years ago.

i would say yes, because of the secret ballot, which is cowardly bullshit. i imagine that vote is much tighter had they gone on record.

Yep.  And because McCarthy is an idiot/coward, Donnie still wields plenty of power, even if us plebes aren't seeing/hearing about the latest batshittery he was posting on social media.  They don't want the spectacle of Trump campaigning for a primary opponent, even if many Trump supporters won't show up if Trump is not on the ballot.

Although I'm beginning to think Trump is not going to campaign for anybody unless he can rake in the lion's share of the money.

You mean exchanging endorsements and campaign appearances for PAC donations he will embezzle into his "foundations" and his 2024 "run" to off debts?

There's a word for that.  He's really good at soliciting it too.
