Texas Women's Basketball 2021-2022 - "Vic's Got It Going!!"

Any idea what earlier play he is referring ?     Kobe (RIP) couldn't have made that shot.   Someone needs to ask him about the "T".

“We had a specific play that we were going to we're going to try to run, get a good look,” Texas coach Vic Schaefer said. “We had gotten it twice during the game. For whatever reason, we just didn't execute.

“It's the difference in having a veteran (team like Oklahoma) and having a young team. I beat my head in the wall all day trying to get our kids to attack and get the ball inside and get the ball in the paint. I just — I lost the battle. We really settled a lot for jump shots. I really had a hard time trying to get my team to play the way we practiced for two days.”

Jesus, we dropped 4 spots for losing on the road to #18 OU by a single basket?  That's a bit much, because we also beat #25 KSU squad badly.

Whatever. Tennessee loses to unranked Auburn and only drops from 4 to 7.

Baylor up to #9. ISU #11.  Texas #13. OU #18. KSU #25.

Friday #9 @ #13
Sunday #13 @ #9

Yeah, but that’s why the AP Poll is worthless.

It has zero value and why I’ve wondered team accounts tweet the AP Poll rankings vs the NET rankings. One of of those matters and the other doesn’t.

Probably just because NET doesn’t have the notoriety of the AP poll.

Texas still 6th in NET.  ISU #10, Baylor #16, KSU #26 and OU #27.  OU is working their way into a 4 seed with wins over Texas and a season sweep of Baylor.

Not saying it's over, but Texas' loss in Norman really doesn't help our goal of winning the conference.

  • ISU is still sitting there with 2 losses, already with a win in Norman, Manhattan and already took their L in Waco.  OU in Ames, Baylor in Ames and road game in Austin are their only remaining trouble issues.  Could potentially finish with just one more loss (Texas in Austin).
  • OU is still there with 2 conference losses, having swept Baylor, taken an L in Manhattan and Ames and took one from Texas in Norman.   They still go to Austin, to Ames and host KSU.  (Could finish with 2 or 3 more losses)
  • Texas has 3 conference losses and go get to host Iowa State and OU, but have to go to Manhattan.  About to go back to back with Baylor. (Could finish with 2 or 3 more losses)
  • Baylor has 3 conference losses, having been swept by OU, taking an L in Manhattan but beat ISU at home.  About to go back to back with Texas, still have to host KSU and go to Iowa State (Could finish with 2 or 3 more losses)
  • KSU has 4 conference losses, but still get to host Texas and go to Waco and Norman.  (Could finish with 2 more losses)

Iowa State is in the driver's seat based on their schedule.  Probably 15-3 (losing in Austin)
OU probably going to finish 14-4 (lose in Austin and Ames)
Texas likely to finish 13-5 (lose in Waco and Manhattan)
Baylor 13-5 (lose in Austin and Ames)
KSU 12-6 (lose in Norman and Waco)

Texas would need to split with Baylor, beat OU in Austin, beat KSU in Manhattan and not trip up in Lubbock/Lawrence considering we lost to those teams at home, and need OU to lose in Ames and get buttfucked by Ayoka Lee in Norman.  If we split with Baylor, we need them to lose in Manhattan and/or team a loss to ISU at home.

OU, by virtue of their season sweep of Baylor, has the leg up on us.  We blew it by not finishing that game in Norman.  That's 2 winnable conference games we've lost that will hurt us for the goal of winning a Big 12 championship.

Thanks for putting that together @Js1.

Serious research there.

Ferrell Center (10,284) – Waco, Texas

Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 – 3:00 p.m. Central
Frank Erwin Center (16,540) – Austin, Texas

GameDay Quick Facts:
• TELEVISION: Both games will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Courtney Lyle (pxp) and Carolyn Peck (analyst) will call the action.
• RADIO: 105.3 The Bat broadcasts every UT game on the statewide network. Craig Way (pxp) and Kathy Harston (analyst) will call the action. Check TexasSports.com for a listing of affiliates carrying the game.
• SERIES: Texas leads, 58-46. Last meeting: Baylor 66-55 (March 13, 2021; Kansas City, Mo.).

DOUBLE DIP: The No. 13/13 Texas Women's Basketball team will gear up for a back-to-back Big 12 rivalry series this weekend as it travels to Waco to square off with No. 9/12 Baylor on Friday (7 p.m. CT) before returning to Austin to host the Bears on Sunday (3 p.m. CT). Both contests are set to air nationally on ESPN 2. The doubleheader comes as a result of a rescheduling of the Jan. 9 contest in Waco, which was postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Baylor program.

THE SERIES: Texas and Baylor will meet for the 105th  time overall on Friday. The Longhorns own a 58-46 advantage over the Bears in the all-time series but will look to snap an 11-game losing streak dating back to Feb. 6, 2017.

THE SCHAEFER FORMULA: Longhorn head coach Vic Schaefer makes no secret in the way his teams have found success over the years. Relentless full court defensive pressure, attention to detail, and limiting turnovers and mistakes have been built in to the identity of his programs. The 2021-22 Longhorns are no different ranking among the best in the country in several defensive categories.  UT currently ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 21 in the NCAA holding opponents to just 54.8 points per game. They also lead the league and rank No. 9 nationally in turnovers forced at 23.6 per contest.

SCOUTING THE BEARS:  In the first year of the post-Kim Mulkey era in Waco, Baylor has put together another strong season under first-year head coach Nicki Collen maintaining their usual status as a Top-10 program and national contender. The Bears are coming off a 78-77 home loss to No.18/18 Oklahoma on Wednesday which marked their first home loss of the season.

BU ranks No. 3 in the league in scoring this season at 76.5 points per game and rank No.2 in field goal percentage at 45.2.

Baylor is led on both end of the floor by All-American and reigning Big 12 Player of the year NaLyssa Smith. Smith ranks No. 2 in the league and No.19 in the NCAA averaging 20.2 points per contest. She leads the conference and ranks No. 14 nationally in rebounding at 11.4 boards per game. Three other players average double figures for the Bears including Sarah Andrews (12.5), Jordan Lewis (11.9) and Queen Egbo (10.4).

NEXT: Following this weekend's series with the Bears, Texas will hit the road as they head to Lubbock next Wednesday, Feb. 9 (7 p.m., ESPN+) before returning home on Saturday, Feb.12 (7 p.m., LHN) to host No.18/18 Oklahoma.

AAS reports the team didn't leave yesterday for the game due to weather - Vic thought about going up in the morning, but knew they wouldn't be able to go to the arena to practice or shoot around, they'd just have sat in a hotel all day.  I think they got to practice once more yesterday afternoon, but they likely won't head up until things unfreeze a bit and probably won't get to shootaround.

Though a similar thing happened to OU on Wednesday - the game started 15 minutes late because OU was late, didn't get to warm up and players were getting changed and taped up on the bus on the way to Ferrell Center.

Poor Tennessee is really in a tailspin.  Got their ass beat by Florida last night.  Now down to #14 in NET

And Gary Blair's squad picked up a really quality SEC W against Arky (NET #22 before the loss), which will keep A&M in the top 50 and a Q1 win for a little while longer (@texasstrong12)  They should be able to pick up 1 or 2 more SEC wins between Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Alabama. Otherwise, they host LSU, USCe and travel to UGA and Ole Miss.

Just playing those 4 squads (NET #22, NET #1, NET #23 and NET #29) should keep aggy's NET high enough to be a Q1 win or a top tier Q2 win.
