Of course the problem is that we've ended up with these "lottery ticket" types starting on the OL this year when they in reality should never have seen the field, or at least not any time soon. It's a fine strategy if we fill in as needed with the portal and the occasional 5-star high school blue chipper. For whatever reason, we've been skipping that 2nd part of the plan, hence a major reason why we started the season #1 and are going to end up in the Whogivesashit Bowl.

You are talking about one player in Stroh. We developed the other three 3-star consensus guys in Goosby, Huston, and Robertson. Brooks should have never been used there as a true freshman, and he might still develop into an OT to replace Goosby after 2026.

Had the coaching staff rolled out the current OL to start the season, I bet we'd be in a slightly better place than we are. Even so, they should have brought in at least two interior portal guys for insurance purposes but Sarkisian took the off-season and spring off from serious roster evaluation.

Hutson stinks, Robertson is average at best

Yea but they might have run off an Omeozulu if they did that.

Are you just repeating the criticism of the early season, or do you not believe the line, which is all new starters, hasn't improved?

There were some funny comments on OTF about Jett Walker. I mean, they weren't meant to be funny. "He'll be a real team-first guy. Great for culture. You can tell he's unselfish" etc.

Jett Walker can play. I don’t know if he’ll be a pure RB here, but he’s a natural player. I guess people are whining because he’s a white RB, but he’ll get on the field here.

Hutson has lost his job twice now and had consistently graded in low 60s to 50s on PFF. Only reason he’s even playing now is the god awfulness of Stoh and a true freshmen not being ready. Robertson is a slight improvement over Hutson at center but he’s average at best. DJ Campbell is the same player he has been for 3 years straight and there hasn’t been much improvement there. All the guys outside of the freshmen mentioned are 3rd to 4th year guys that aren’t good and haven’t been developed as you are trying to say.

That C and LG combo though was noticeably better the second they made the change. I do wonder what some of those first half of the season games would have looked like if we had started out like this. It may have been enough to get a win at Florida, and then our season is completely different.

Just because that combo is better doesn’t mean either is good or well developed. Fuck man, you and me Out there would have been better than stroh/hutson combo

Do you not remember how terrible he was when they first put him out there?  He was a sieve.  He’s gotten a lot better at pass protection.

I’m pretty sure that you would die if you tried to play offensive line in a college football game against Georgia.

I think Hudson and Robertson just have way more experience and real game reps, so they actually know what to do. And when you know what to do, you play faster and more physical because you’re not out there thinking every snap.

It feels like the offensive staff tried to start the season by putting the most athletic guys on the field and hoped they’d pick things up quickly. But they clearly didn’t grasp the system as fast as Flood expected, that’s why the OL looked so bad early on. We couldn’t pick up a stunt to save our lives.

And honestly, Arch’s early-season struggles probably made it even worse. When your QB is still finding his rhythm, it magnifies every protection mistake. I think the staff assumed the offense would be further along than it actually was, so they thought the talented lineup would gel as the season went on.

But the offense sputtered out the gate, the OL issues were magnified, and they realized they had to make a change. That’s when they went back to Hudson and Robertson  not because they’re the most athletic, but because they’re the ones they trusted to be assignment-sound.

What the fuck were we doing all spring and summer? It's actually hard to believe it took until week 8 or whatever it was to settle on this starting five. And that's not even getting into the whole Neto disaster.

Yeah, Hutson and Robertson are average at best but that combo beats FL (still loses to Ohio State).  The fact that the coaching staff had a playoff level team and found a way to miss the playoffs without having major injuries to blame is malpractice.  Blame Sark, Flood, Akina, whomever but this team is good enough to not have 3 losses.

The spring game wouldn’t have did anything. It’s just a show

its the practices that would’ve revealed everything, but when you opt to do OTA’s and coddle your players because your afraid of injury  you miss that . .

I hope to never see that shit again
