There's not a single moment once it hit his hands where he wasn't in control of the ball. It was a perfect catch and he secured it on first contact with zero hint of a bobble. I mean nobody here will believe it (nor should you I guess) but as soon as it happened live I yelled out that he had it with his left foot still down. My wife, to her eternal shame, disagreed and said no way. Then the replays came.

Yeah, in the live footage it looked like his foot was in the chalk, in the slowmo, it was clear it was several inches inbounds.

And I think people make the mistake of watching him haul it in to see if there's a bobble or secures it against his body.  Those are evidence that he did not have possession (not that possession was incomplete until he pulls it in) and because there was none of that, it was a catch.

It ain’t that entertaining so I’ll spoiler.

Was at south shore Tiki Lounge in Kihei on a Saturday night (which is generally not recommended as shady local shit goes down on weekends) we had just gotten drinks at last call and then the lights come on 10 minutes before official closing and they start moving people out. Well we had literally just bought $18 drinks so we hang back/drag ass a little to finish them off. Large shady dude comes up and starts talking to us as if he’s a bouncer (come to find out he is not employed there) telling us we need to leave. My buddies girl says ok let us chug these I guess and we’ll head. He proceeds to slap the drink out of her hand. My 5’ 5” buddy gets in his face and the dude proceeds to open palm slap him in the neck. Real bouncers get involved and separate them and move us on our way no big deal. We’re out in the parking lot leaning on the car ripping a dart before we head home and out comes fake bouncer guy from the front door bee lining for us. (Now this is the last thing I remember so the rest is he said she said). Allegedly he and some randos surrounded the back of our car and started talking shit. Security comes up (they are crooked as fuck and help people break into cars here) and stand there being useless. My buddy, his gf, and I are all in healthcare and it is a small island so we are not looking to engage at all at this point for careers sake. I’m leaning against the car still ripping a dart looking judgingly at these broke asses. According to the sober one in our party the only thing I said was to the security guys “Alright can you get these fuckers away from the back of our car so we can head home” and the fake bouncer flys in and blindside decks me. Wake up having no recollection of the night after he came out the front door. Massive headache. Went to see my colleagues at the ER for a CT as I was traveling 30 hours to Brazil in 4 days. Had to make a police report there and as soon as my buddy showed the cop a picture of the guy he goes “ahhhh yea that’s Harry he has 4 priors and does stuff like this every weekend.” Fin.

Dang Hank, be careful out there

Did you notice Arch's weird 1990's style dropback? Where you drop with your left shoulder back like you are left handed and then turn and throw. We got sacked on that.

Cut to the 18:05 mark

Sark fucking loves that shit and I hate every time we do it.

To play devils advocate I think one of the primary reasons we got Manning is because Sarks system appealed to the family and getting him ready for the NFL. At some point both parties have to realize the system is actually hindering his NFL odds though. Not to mention doing what is best for the team overall.

I think Sark's stubbornness could have something to do with developing Arch with the NFL in mind. Sark definitely sees himself as that guy you go to when you want to play in the league.

When I watched the replays at the time, and remember ESPN's production crew is ass so the angles are also ass, I didn't feel confident that there was a frame with indisputable "firm" ball control while the toe was inbound. So I was fully expecting it to be upheld.

I don't know the true difference between the two, but Caldwell right now throws a better ball, and he also can run. We've only seen a small sample size, but he knows his reads and delivers the ball on time and almost perfectly. Sometimes a QB just needs better players and athletes around them for them to look better than they did at another school.

I don't want t compare Chambliss to Caldwell, but Chambliss came from Ferris State, a DII school out of Michigan, and Caldwell has already played DI, even if they were not great  at Troy. He had a 63% comp with 13 passing TD's and 5 rushing TD's. I believe he was their backup. He also had 8 INT's. But again, look at their players compared to our players, and it's like night and day. Is Caldwell better than Arch? I don't know. He's a smart kid, seems relaxed, knows the playbook, where everyone needs to be.

We don't have a choice, so the best we can hope for is our talent level elevates his play (see: Moseley, Emmett). I think we can beat Vandy with Caldwell, but until we see what his ceiling is, that's about all I'm guessing. If he face rapes them it will give me a little more hope, but Arch will be back after Vandy.

That's pretty much where my thoughts were headed. His laziness is maddening. Truly.

It's not the first time a non-famous backup QB has come off the bench and worked wonders here at Texas:

3rd-string Randy McEachern - Mark McBath breaks his ankle, and then Jon Aune tore knee ligaments 9 plays later, and Randy becomes the starter and does what's needed to win in addition to handing the ball off to Earl.

Robert Brewer - Rick McIvor gets a shoulder-neck injury, and Robert starts the rest of the season and beats BamaJelly in the 1982 Cotton Bowl.

And then there's James Brown who comes off the bench and beats Mobilehoma.

How did you determine this?

From when he was on the field against both UF and MSU, he had to let a player or two know where to line up. Moseley yesterday, and I can't remember who it was against UF, but it wss another WR (I've tried so hard to wipe my memory of that game).

I'll admit maybe he just has his own set of plays, but the other guys know them, except for maybe a few that were starting. And I don't mean "they don't know the playbook" I just mean they probably got the plays mixed up.

But you also have to take into account that all the QBs have the same playbook, so in case of emergency (now) they need to be ready, so I'm basing that assumption of him knowing the playbook from learning it off the field and while at games. That's just my personal opinion and I could be wrong.

Daaaaayum. Isn't Brown (or Street) that's 4-0 vs OU? They're way before my time.

Nope!

That would be Sir Peter Gardere who's the only Texas QB to start and go 4-0 against Mobilehoma.

Mobilehoma fans, those that were left in the Cotton Bowl, chanted, "GRAD-U-ATE! GRAD-U-ATE!" as Peter jogged off the field for the last time.  Lulz.

Seriously...?  James Mutha fuckin Street got sent into the game to replace "Super Bill Bradley "when the wishbone was born with the subroquet "Hell, you can't do any worse. Get in there" from coach Royal and promptly won 20 games in a row.  Street was an afterthought recruit.

Honestly the worst part was the aftermath with the wife as she wasn’t there and doesn’t buy my innocence. 10/10 would not recommend being screamed at by a Brazilian woman while concussed

Ah, I think we see the problem here!

That's because Super-Bill's hands were too small to play QB.

He made a helluva defensive back, though, and had a ton of interceptions.

Yes, that's another example...... and when Street got hurt a few times, Eddie Phillips ran the wishbone as if Street was out there.

Yes! That's the name I was looking for! I remember y'all talking about James Brown beating Mobilhoma and it went in my brain.

I love their salty tears lol. You know you're at a low when you are just begging and screaming for the opposing QB to graduate already haha

Sorry, bro, it's nothing personal. It's just when you converse online you don't really know their age until you let something like that slip. I feel old, and I'm late 30s.

According to Bradley, Royal,  Street, and Bellard in a Blackie Sherod article back in the 80s i think, they all agreed Bradley couldn't make the reads reliably on keep or pitch/handoff.

My source is my Dad, who was on The Forty at the time.

I'm not surprised. He made great defensive reads, however!

I was at that game, and we all laughed when we realized what those dejected land thieves were chanting when he ran into The Tunnel.

Just jokes buddy. It's to be expected to be the young guy. This is a message board after all. My daughter didn't even know these existed. She's all like, "you talk to random people online? Weird".

Never liked nor understood it back then. Nothing has changed for me to this day.
