I thought this was inevitable, but they’ve been talking like he was committed to staying. I don’t really think Tatum sucks. It wouldn’t surprise me if he went somewhere and did okay.

Was told by my Lvies peeps Tatum likely wants to go and play baseball.

Edited by The Ace of Aces

I think Tatum’s problem is he’s not smart.

Maybe he's going to be player-coach.

The Longest Yard' Turns 50 Fun Facts You Don't Know

Picked up a Colorado State TE, Rocky Beers. All time name.

I've watched the guys you are picking up and it looks like a growing collection of spares. That's great if you're cheering for a used tire shop, but it seems like a tenuous position for a fan of a football program.

-WKU OL (Caleb Nitta) - spare following in the likes of Kennesaw State guys from last year. He couldn't cut it for PT at a weak VaTech program. Transfers to WKU and scores a PFF of 69 and you guys celebrate.

-Oregon CB (Dakoda Fields) - Oregon shoved him out with an exit interview. Spare.

-Florida TE (Hayden Hudson) - Dude caught 30 passes for 250-ish yards and 2 or 3 tds this past season. He's not exactly a great in-line blocker, although that's where he plays mostly, and he's not a real passing threat. I thought when y'all fired Finley, the profile you were seeking might actually improve. Nope.

-Arkansas RT (E'Marion Harris) - He started for Arkansas, but his 2nd season of starting yielded a 58-ish PFF grade. Spare.

-Virginia WR (Trell Harris) - He had a breakout senior season and put up good numbers, including a number of explosives, and he did it as P4 level. Not a spare.

-Texas WR (Jaggy McJaggerson) - The name says it all. He'll drop a bunch of passes and look like a buffoonish baby giraffe on any rout that isn't a fly pattern, but man, he can catch a deep pass if given space. You brought in another guy like that a few years and he finally had a decent season this year, at Miss State. Spare.

-CSU TE (Rocky Beers) - Bounced around 3 G6 schools putting up middling numbers. Decided to join OU mostly to watch his sister play basketball, I think. Spare.

-CSU RB (Kelly Avant) - Couldn't crack the starting lineup at shitty Tulsa, so he went to shitty CSU instead. Rushed for 420-ish yards and caught for another 250-ish. Role playing APB type. Now he's going to crush it in the SEC? Right. Spare.

Now that I've loaded this up for you, how do you feel about your portal class so far?

Sounds like a fine collection of football players.

No one serious about winning gives a flying fuck about Jaggerson going to ou. Who gives a shit? He'll be below average there, too.

OU is poor. Everyone knows it. So they need to scout third tier guys and hope they pan out. I mean we all know UT’s gonna win everything very soon bc cash is all that matters… so we’ll take not being Nebraska. It is what it is.

But maybe I spend too much time here. I really thought you all would be MUCH better. Hell, the entire SEC has been pretty average.

Now that I got some ribbing out of the way ill be at least a little serious…I don’t play in this game and have never claimed to, but I know plenty of top tier donors personally and probably the very top guy at tOSU and Miami. I don’t think UT has that type of guy or a Knight/Cody Campbell. Dell cares less about UT football than I do OU. It is what it is, maybe you guys do have that guy but that’s not what I’ve been told.

Austin is a big league town and UT is the de facto pro team so there’s plenty of ways for you to get guys paid - see Arch. I’m just surprised there’s not the private Jones’ types.

I wouldn't expect you to spend any time on the NIL or Texas annual recruiting threads, but yeah, we discuss all of this. Dell has zero interest in being involved with UT sports. We talked to numerous other billionaires when we were building the original apparatus that became Texas One Fund. A few helped in small ways, but most noped out aggressively and were appalled by the idea of paying players. Once CDC embraced things, which took awhile, some of the bigwigs came in to help.

That said, Texas has millionaires in spades and likely more than anyone but Harvard and another Ivy or Stanford, but I don't think they graduate enough guys. Texas has had plenty of support from that end on down. Some guys were instrumental in the beginning on the cash front and they still play major roles, but the cavalry eventually arrived. Texas has had the largest or one of the largest, depending upon the year, payrolls since 2022. That isn't going to change. The wealth that supports Texas isn't overhyped.

Makes sense. Just a lot of big time guys vs one whale. I am just a bit tuned out.

If I ran a business in Austin I’d actually net money with NIL whereas most college towns the donors are supporting the team but losing money on their investment financially. To me that’s what makes UT the scariest long term in this new world.

Yeah- if NIL was a real thing where the players actually did shit and worked you could absolutely make a fair bit of money off of it (or at least support itself). I know @immamac isn’t super impressed with what the guys are doing for their obligations, but if they did stuff you could probably have professional service guys pay them 6 figures and come out ok on the deal.

I would imagine restaurants and shit could pay decent money too if they structured it right. Pictures and autographs and shit. I don’t know that anyone is actually interested in doing that. I think the walk ons could probably do some cool shit and kill it with like a live show appearance at a place sponsoring them. I wish it actually were more like that instead of pay for play bc I think it would be cool for the fans, the community, and help the vast majority of players who are going pro in something else.

Yep just need to plaster their shit on marketing. Agree they won’t do much. But you buy your truck for almost the exact price no matter where you go. Get these kids to drive around in your badged one and you have a leg up in what’s otherwise a very competitive space. Just one example.

I think the fact this isn’t happening is fair evidence there isn’t the value in it on either side. #1, the athletes don’t want to do anything that requires work when they see their peers getting paid for nothing and #2, most of the players lack the kind of fame that would justify a legitimately made agreement.

Where there are exceptions to this, imo, it’s mostly in women’s sports. Someone like Madisen Skinner with HEB, for example.

Agreed. There’s way more bang for buck on women’s side imo

I don’t think there is a lack of value possible. I think it’s as simple as don’t want to do anything that requires work. Which is completely a fair perspective.

Is it a real thing that Texas is actually trying to follow these idiotic rules with NIL Go / Clearinghouse BS?

IMO it's crazy for us to follow that when it is blatantly obvious that others are not and there is absolutely no evidence that it can be enforced.

I'm a lot less likely to pay a kid for his autograph at a restaurant if there's a chance he's going to leave after one year. You're going to see fans losing interest if this continues for any length of time.

The rules finally change in a way Texas could completely dominate cfb and we find out our billionaires are the Kurt Bowels of rich fucks. Awesome.
