I agree but when I pointed out he wasn't one of the best drivers last season a couple of people around here got mad like I was insulting their family. As I said then, age comes for all of us and it comes at different speeds for different people.

Leclerc outqualified Hamilton 19-5 this season. He's currently up 17-3 in GP finishes.

Lewis has won twice in his last 91 races. He’s 40-years old. Go home.

Agreed! He's fucking cooked. Age comes for us all.

Should have retired after AD21 btw

Charles is used to driving the Ferrari shit box. Lewis was not. Charles just described his drive as a rally course.
That said - next year will be telling. If Charles is at the top and Lewis isn’t - he should hang it up.

True, but if Charles being ahead of Lewis still has him in an uncompetitive shit box of a car that means both things are true.

Time for Lewis to retire and time for Ferrari to try to be something more than a brand.

If you are McLaren,  do you ask Oscar to act as the rearguard for Lando?

Tough track to pass on and if those two create a DRS train between them I am not sure anyone can get past them which gives Lando the title if they don't fuck up the pit stops, race strategy, or car set up.

Russell was faster than Hamilton last year.

In fact, I just looked it up and this is the second straight year Hamilton has lost GP qualifying 19-5 to his teammates. Including sprint qualifying, Hamilton has lost to his teammates 47-13 the last two seasons. When anyone else on the grid is getting destroyed like that people are asking if the losing teammate belongs in F1, with the possible exception of RB/Verstappen.

Mercedes really should have timed George's lap to a get a tow from Max.  He would have been very happy to give it.

He still would have finished P2 if he had kept from losing the back end in both of his Q3 laps. Could have made things at least a little interesting. Oscar will push at the beginning since his only chance of a WDC is by winning, but I'm guessing it settles into a pretty boring race once it's obvious that the only way Lando finishes 4th or worst is a major mistake.

even though I think he’s one of the best drivers ever I do think he was also in the most dominant and advanced car ever as well.

Some ways to separate the driver from the car is race consistency, control (eg tire management), and rain performance.

Throughout his career he’s been superb at all 3 and especially the rainmaster title its a class of 2 with him and verstappen.

It’s been 12 years since Alonso won a race at all - yet people still say just give him a good car. Charles hasn’t won since USGP 2024. Lewis won a sprint race this year. But sure - he’s cooked.

Well I mean he's probably a top 10ish driver this season, so he's definitely cooked compared to what he used to be but it's not like he's bad. 3 straight weekends out in Q1 certainly doesn't make it seem like it's getting any better though.

And the defense that it's all a crappy car and team rings sort of hollow. It's still the 3rd or 4th best car on the grid and he's getting knocked out in Q1 and his run of championships was with an absolutely dominant car and team. Anyone willing to bet money that two time driver runner-up Bottas will be in the top 4 of the driver standings next year in a Cadillac?

But that's the question. How much of that is the cars and how much is it Hamilton sucking at the end of this season? Leclerc is still handily beating Antonelli in quali each week (Qatar excepted) and beat Russell at COTA. I'd say the Mercedes is nominally better overall than the Ferrari right now but not nearly as much as it's being made to look due to Hamilton's results.

Plus there's always the second Red Bull car to consider. I know Verstappen is ridiculous but there is still something going on over there. I can't believe anyone is that much better than the rest of the F1 field.

Sure, Leclerc’s used to the Ferrari, but Lewis has had a full season to adjust by now. The reality is age has caught up to Hamilton and Leclerc is a top 3 driver on the grid. Even if the chasm narrows next year with new cars, Leclerc is just significantly faster and better than Hamilton at this point in their careers.

I would, but I’m not betting against one of my favorite drivers. I’d love for him to succeed.

He 24-0'd his teammate in quali this year.

He's in a back of the midfield car, they are 300 points behind Ferrari and 12 points ahead of Sauber.

It's almost like he's one of the best drivers in the history of the sport. The guy had one year of open wheel racing then was in a Torro Rosso.

There has been rain in F1 since long before Lewis Hamilton & Max.   😉

If we say that the Ferrari is complete shit and that is why Hamilton is so bad then we also have to acknowledge that the championships came in a car so far advanced from everyone else, cuz it was.

I’m not saying that you are ignoring that. I’m just sayin’

EDIT: Oops, you said much the same thing an hour ago.

Yep. Lost out to his teammate in the WDC 3 of the last 4 years.  Lewis seems a shell of what he was even 2 or 3 years ago imho.

Yep. Alonso is still on it, hard, all the fucking time, getting the most out of the car, still great wheel to wheel, getting every possible point, etc. There's a reason the pundits gush so often over what he's doing in that AM.

Ferrari's car is shit. Their #1 driver is saying it.

I hope the car is good enough for there to be a chance.

Do I expect that? Of course not.

I’ve said the same thing for years. I will get slammed four this as well but, even though I think he’s one of the best drivers ever I do think he was also in the most dominant and advanced car ever as well. Plus, I don’t really like any English drivers so, there is that.

As for people jumping down your throat, and not mine, perhaps I have more tact with my words. 😉

Hamilton looked utterly confused and defeated in that short interview.

This. IMHO the relative ease with which he was able to handle Bottas did him no favors later on when he no longer had the luxury of a dominant car.

It is puzzling at times watching Albon.

Yeah I said earlier this season the Albon was looking a bit lackluster by his standards. That still seems true to me.

Good time for the season to end for him. Either he's completely washed or he's gassed from the longest two seasons ever. We will find out pretty early next season which it is.

I wonder how much it might be just him not being able to get his head around a heavy ground effect car. Who knows, maybe in the new ruleset, he resets and does better.

Yep. In F1, your first, most important yardstick is your teammate. This year Charles outqualified Lewis with an avg position of 5.46 to 9.04. But it gets worse. In the last 4 races, it's about 7 to 17. WTAF?

Ferrari is All Gas, No Brakes...

Which reminds me... I drove a Corvette at MSR two years ago. After 3 laps, they pulled the car because the brakes were hot.

Vette and Ferrari share a Brembo brake kit... So I blame Ferrari

Charles avg result this year was 5-6. Hamilton’s avg was 7th. New car, new team, new everything - yet yall call him cooked and washed. He won a sprint race - his teammate didn’t win anything. New regulations next year means an equal start for both guys. Let’s see what happens there.

What’s up with both Aston drivers skipping events?

Lewis's avg was 9.04. The reason people are saying he's done is because he's had a terrible year compared to his teammate this year, as part of a bigger trend vs his teammates, and because he's been completely uncompetitive the last 4 races while his teammate has averaged P7.

Personally I've seen this happening for a while, but it's much more pronounced recently. But like I said above, maybe he just needs a reset with the new rules. I'm not optimistic, really, but I nhope it's true. F1 is better with Lewis working at a high level.
