More putting tips please. I’ve fallen off a cliff putting lately. Need to get it figured out

Keep moving - shuffle feet, waggle, forward press, whatever - settle for a split second and pull the trigger. Don't give your mind time to think about form and just use your feels.

On the putting green, work on form and do the drills. On the course, trust your stroke and pull the trigger.

When I start getting too wrapped up in technique, hand position, stroke, and all that noise, I try to remind myself to just putt like I'm rolling a golf ball with my hand trailing right hand to the hole. If I were rolling that golf ball with my hands, I wouldn't think about technique or anything. I'd just got with feel, how hard I want to roll the ball, and line. Then I translate that feel, pace, and line to just hitting the ball with my putter as if I were just tossing/rolling it with my hands.

This especially helps with the testy 3-6' putts and long lag putts.

Because of my injury I couldn’t do anything but pitch, chip and putt for the last 3 weeks. So I did nothing but pitch, chip and putt, 5 days a week on average, for at least an hour, for the last three weeks.
It should not be a surprise, therefore, that my pitching, chipping and putting has improved radically in the last three weeks.

Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

super stroke 2.0 or even better 3.0 grip. straight grip, no taper

i added 3 wrap to all my irons / woods. im just making much crisper contact, especially my short irons

after 35 years of using a 56 degree wedge, started using a 54 and it's really worked for me. much better shot / flight path on chips. I can get it up when needed but im mostly a bump/run or pitch guy

I can’t imagine being good enough for that to make a difference, but I guess that’s the difference between 35 years and 8 weeks.

hands out in front, almost use a putting stroke until you're comfortable. don't be afraid of de-lofting the club. focus on contact, then distance control. keep your head down

easy stroke to learn

I prefer a super stroke pistol grip tour. I can’t stand the massive putter grips.

Played UT Golf Club today, that’s a really damn good course. Greens were elite, perfectly true and fast. Course was challenging and fun without being a beating or slog. Highly recommended.

I manage to figure out a way to play out there a couple times a year and it always delivers. Close to the best greens I've putted on in Texas, up there with DNat.

Also love that each hole is very unique from the rest of the course. No repeats. Your entire game gets tested out there. Views are stellar for a couple of holes but otherwise they're a bit hidden - that's probably my only complaint about that place other than the cost.

I played in a tournament Monday at Dallas Athletic Club and saw some shit I’ve never seen before. It was a scramble and the group in front of us were terrible golfers, but at least they were slow too. I noticed on our 17th hole that one of their carts was parked really close to the green. They finish up putting and the lady just drives right across the middle of the green. Not like she just clipped the edge, she drove around a green side bunker and crossed all the way through the fattest part of the green.

One of my playing partners knew the driver and called her out after the round and she tried to deny it.

Brutal to see the tracks when we got up there. The greens were in fantastic shape too.

My quest for getting back to a sub 10 handicap continues. I’m going thru another swing adjustment from a new instructor. I’m pretty excited about the potential.

However, I’m also finding that mentally with chipping I’ve completely fallen apart. This is after having, and getting rid of, the yips earlier this year on putting.

Does anyone have a good recommended book or resource for dealing with the mental aspects of golf? I’m losing it.

I witnessed one of the strangest things I've ever seen on a golf course yesterday.  To set the scene, I walked on Lions around 3:30 and got paired with a couple other guys.  We're on 16, the Hogan Hole, playing our approaches up to the green from the landing area short of the water.  One of the dudes pushes his shot right, and as we are watching it fade right of green and towards the hillside, these two hayseeds pull up in a cart out of the woods left of the 12th green, probably halfway up the hillside and nowhere near where a cart should be.  The dude who hit the shot hollers fore just as the passenger who's stepped out ahead goes to duck for cover.

Now, I'd witnessed some dumbass hayseed behavior in carts earlier so I was already in the red, and I start loudly admonishing them from afar and questioning all of the decisions that led them to drive up the hill instead of walking the their dumb asses fifteen yards into the woods.

The ball lands on the hillside about three feet from their cart, and bounces in.  The admonishments continued.

They drive off with the ball, scurried off 12 and over to the par three before any of us had a chance to process what we'd just witnessed.  We just stood there half gobsmacked, half laughing uncontrollably

oh and also they'd sanded the greens like three minutes prior, and Groundskeeper was out there turning on sprinklers on folks throughout the afternoon

Muni gonna muni

For the last 5 years between all 5 munis (Kizer, Clay, Mo, Lions, and Hancock), I averaged around 3-4 walking rounds per week, half of those rounds as a 4 some with my buddies, the other half as a single getting paired with other people. Most of the idiocy I see are from newer players who started golf on their own. They didn't have established players who showed them how to play golf and the etiquette. They play with their other noob friends so it's the blind leading the blind. They don't understand pace of play, to fix the pitch marks on the greens, to walk/drive to their own balls and be ready to hit as the furthest out is hitting, etc.

So when I see bullshit like this, I attribute it to their being dipshits to golf. They probably quickly drove off in shame because someone pointed out their idiocy.

BTW, one of the biggest complaints with new golfers is their reluctance to yell FORE. I think they are embarrassed that they hit a bad shot which might kill someone. If they yell fore, it's usually a half hearted attempt. I usually remind them that it's golf and bad shots are guaranteed and that even pros loudly yell fore.

The other complaint is pace of play. When I ask them to hurry up, the usual response is "mind your own business". I tell them their slow play is everyone's business who is stuck behind them. I ask them if they've ever been stuck on a tee box with 2 or more groups/tee times on the tee box. When they say yes, I tell them it's because some group ahead is way behind on the pace of play. That there's probably at least a 1 hole gap between them and the group in front. That's usually when the light comes on.

Just played scarecrow. The new course at gamble sands. I know bandon gets a lot of love, as it should, but if you tell me i have 3 days to play all the golf i can at gamble or bandon, I'm taking gamble.

Its a 2.5 hour drive from either spokane or Seattle airport. If you're fancy, there is a small airstrip in brewster.

Don't want to pay the rates for their limited number of rooms? Chelan is 20 minutes away and is on one of the prettiest lakes you've ever seen.

I don't know that I've had more fun playing golf anywhere than gamble. Its fucking awesome.

And the architect that has done all the courses did the original bandon dunes.

Sometimes when I turned off Pecos onto Enfield, if I saw somebody at the 11th tee I used to blast my horn right the top of their  backswing.

I still do, but I used to, too.

I'm sure there is a level of wisdom in Will's advice that is just significantly beyond both my golf ability and my mental capacity but to say the best way to go from a 12 to a 0 handicap is to get to the green in as few strokes as possible seems like Captain Obvious advice. Thanks.

I thought the same thing.

Like, I'm trying bro, wtf do you mean? Maybe he means just focus on getting on the pad somewhere and don't be so worried about getting close to the flag?
