Duchene’s radio interview yesterday was fascinating. Said Petrovic is great and they were surprised last year he didn’t stick with the parent club this year. Said he does something a lot of defensemen don’t do, set them up for scoring chances.

He seems to be a huge improvement over Dumba, and would seem to have been a huge improvement over Suter (and Nils) last season, but what the fuck do I know?

I haven't dove into all the contracts, but I would guess this is a case of Petrovic being on a 2-way contract and the rest not. Most NHL contracts only allow demotion to the minors for specific things. so even if we wanted to play petrovic in the regular season, it would have taken an injury and depletion of our nhl-only reserves before call up. those rules don't apply in the playoffs (per se) so they can basically play anyone in the system and the staff clearly deemed Petro better than Dumba or Smith. Nils still isn't cleared to play and likely won't be for these playoffs - probably better that way.

That's right but I think the hindsight is why we didn't sig Petro to an NHL contract last summer instead of getting locked in for Dumba for 2 years.  Hard to second guess Nill with all his hits but that's another contract going to be PITA this summer.  Plenty of time to worry about all of that once this run is over (hopefully towards the end of June!).

is there any chance in hell WPG starts Comrie or is that total capitulation? i think you have to give your team the best chance to steal a road win back before this gets out of hand. I'd consider it if I were their staff

and in turn do we slot in DeSmith?

in case you're wondering, like I was:
Regular Season: 4 GP (2-2-0), 2.17 GAA, .903 SV%

That would be shocking.  You have to live and die with the Vezina winner.  If your goal is to win a cup, that's only going to happen if your best player figures out road woes in any event.  We've got to get to him early tonight.  Can't let him start getting comfortable.

I get you, but this is also a team sport. How do you combat this?
Road Record: 1-8 in the 2025 playoffs.
GAA: 4.58.
Save Percentage: .861.
Recent Performance: Allowed 4+ goals in 8 straight road playoff games.
Previous Six Road Games: 0-6, 5.72 GAA, .835 save percentage, according to Sportsnet.ca.

At the very least he has to be on a short leash. Vezina or not, this is their season - or at least very much could be.

It's not like they have a great alternative.  Comrie is a career backup that has never started a playoff game.  He's not going to take them on a cup run.  It's 'only' their season if Helleybuck figures it out. The reason Jets are a contender is defensive structure with elite starting goaltending + an elite power play.  Replace Hellebuyck with Comrie in the regular season and they probably miss the playoffs.

It would be a total panic move for Arniel. As @Skipper says, the Jets are going to live-and-die by Hellebuyck. This isn't Edmonton with McDavid/Draisatl and a patchwork goalie situation. Hellebuyck is the franchise cornerstone. He's their ride-or-die. (Truth is they probably ride him too hard in the regular season. He's played 60+ games in the regular season the last four seasons and led the NHL in two of those years. One year he didn't he appeared in 66!!!! games.)

One, maybe 2 shots on goal during PP only for a direct shot from the wing to hit 5 hole at barely even strength.

Frustrating. Otter shoulda had it too.
