My best friend from HS/college moved to Phoenix like 15 years ago and so we never see each other. He's got a place in Rocky Point and has been begging me to come hang out. Fly into Phoenix and drive 3.5 hours to the house, last hour in Mexico. Finally going in a couple weeks and freaking excited about it.

Not really regional for this board but half the folks on here aren't either. Hoping for some intel, but gfy is also welcomed.

I went for spring break once when a friend went to ASU. It was college and it was spring break— hard to screw it up. Not sure how much fun it would be as an old, but report back and let us know.

Also does anyone remember the horn fans poster who died at Rocky point on spring break in like 2001?

A chick on my team in PHX goes there all the time. She loves it. The first time I saw her vacation marked on the team calendar, she had put "MEXICO!!!!" on it, so I asked where she was going....and it was to PP.

She's probably been 15 times in the last 6 years and she told me she's never been anywhere else in Mexico. Not Cancun, not Cabo, nada. Fucking weird.

Your friend probably knows this but the biggest thing on the way down is to not speed, especially through Sonoyta, (drive under the limit) and to make a full stop at the stop signs there.   Only keep a twenty in your wallet so you don’t flash a bunch of cash if you do get pulled.  Don’t try to take a vape/weed with you, you’ll go to fuck you up jail for that.

People in AZ fucking love Rocky Point. I lived in PHX for nearly 20 years and went there one time and that was plenty for me. So many better places to go in Mexico, but people love that they can drive there.

Been a few times.  Best memory was day drinking in JJ’s and watched some dude ride a jetski at Mach-schnell into the reef at low-tide Cholla Bay.

It’s fun.  I grew up going to Pacific Baja so I was a little unimpressed.  45 minutes longer drive time and no border wait (which can be excruciating) coming back and you can be in SD.

We did get it, don't know if mandatory, but it's dirt cheap. Got it at the gas station in Ajo right before the border. Be aware that little stretch north of Ajo has shit cell reception.

Not mandatory, but really stupid not to get. Mexican law for accidents/collisions is "Arrest first, ask questions later". If you don't have Mexican insurance, they will arrest you, then it's up to you to prove you can pay for any damages you are suspected of causing.

Also, if you get in a wreck, call the insurance company immediately and wait for someone to come out (if you care about getting reimbursed). Mexican auto insurance will deny your claim if you get in a wreck and drive off without waiting for an insurance rep. to come out to the scene.

My daughter (no pics) went last year with her boyfriend and his ASU college friends.  They lived, didn't get thrown in a Mexican jail, or have any other issues.

smh.  I don’t understand why people like you can’t maintain some level of civility around here.  we’re all fans of the same school.

Might want to go re-read the OP, Ms. Landers.

I read the OP.  bottom line I just get tired of the general lack of empathy towards others that people display around here.  at the end of the day we’re all on the same team.  I think most of us need to do better.

The 2 of you in Mexico?  What could possibly go wrong?
