I want the rosy projections to be good, but I don't think SA will be spared from the economic carnage that's just beginning and when that happens you will see many contractors and financiers go belly up, which means the optimistic projections are very unlikely to actually happen in reality. GOJ should know that this has already been a done deal, like most of the business before city council and the county commissioners in any part of Texas, none of the votes actually get swayed by public comments because the votes were brokered and whipped behind the scenes months ago.

Deep down she knew she wouldn't be able to stop the project. So instead GOJ's goal was to make sure that a vocal opposition existed and showed out, so that she can build credibility with that base of organizers and voters, as well as with the fiscally conservative "vote down every bond ever no matter what" types, in the event that Project Marvel becomes infamous. An event she thinks is likely, and I can't say I blame her.

I'm glad the Spurs will stay in SA for the Wemby era, and Helo saying that most of the city is agnostic about the Spurs might be the wildest take he's ever posted on this board.

I’ve seen this posted a few places and I have no idea what these people are talking about. San Antonio loves that team.

In total I’ve lived here almost half my life, including the past 12 years in a row. So I think I know what I’m talking about. The vast majority of people here don’t give a shit about basketball or the spurs, especially with how bad they are now. Most people will say their favorite team is the spurs but they don’t go to or watch the games, or follow the team. Nowadays if I see a guy with a spurs tat or a bunch of spurs gear my first thought is he’s an orejon, not a big spurs fan. Their connection with the city is gone and the France and Austin shit sealed it.

You really don't, and your posts on this forum have shown that.  I'm glad you take part here as a SA resident as you should. I mean that sincerely.  But man your takes, from culture, to food, to sports, have been pretty bad.  I don't know what you have been doing for these 12 years, but it sounds like you have done everything you can to not embrace this city.  Are you here by choice?  I'm guessing no.   It sounds like wherever you live, you stay close to home, and don't venture out much.  And if you do, it's never to try something new and unique.

I dont hate it here. I’ve always found the “culture” here to be overrated and watered down compared to where I’m from. But thinking about it now what was I really expecting moving out of what is likely the most heavily hispanic area of the country. I currently live around Nacogdoches and 1604, I rarely venture inside 410 as in my mind I’ve already seen and done all there is to do here and then some. I’m not a basketball fan and only have 2 friends that were both basketball fans, but they don’t follow the NBA much at all anymore after the spurs fell off. In my mind the rest of the city did the same. Maybe I’m in  a bubble but it’s hard not to feel validated when you go online and see so many people agreeing with you.

Helo is obviously self-aware and trolling us at this point.

But hell man you don't have to enter 410 to enjoy highbrow Spurs culture. The Monster Mini Golf out by the airport has you covered.

Wait a minute. You come online and feel validated that "so many" people agree with you. About anything? You do live in a bubble, and respectfully, it's one of the least interesting and "watered down" areas of the city. I can't think of a more generic part of town and that is less representative of the spirit of this city.

This city absolutely loves the Spurs. Per usual, you are either the dumbest motherfucker on this site or its most prolific troll.

I’ve only been downtown/pearl/southtown maybe 5 times in the past 2 years. Literally actually going inside 410, obviously yeah I’ll do that more often. Lately just to watch my girlfriend play softball at brackenridge park

Let me guess, you tell her that her team is awesome and they’re going to win and they always lose?

Why would delaying 6 months cost 80-100m more?  Where did she get this metric from?  What part of the project would jump in cost for so little a time period?

I'm guessing you haven't been paying attention to what's going on in this country.

Glad this is getting pushed through. The Austin Spurs are lurking possibility if it isn't done. San Antonio would then be cooked as a city.

We’re cooked if this does go through. We could be spending that money on infrastructure, road expansion, flood control and social services. Not a free arena for a billionaire ownership group.

God you’re so fucking retarded. Spurs are putting up over a billion, 2/3 of which are for other projects for the city. They are also going to cover cost overruns. Like holy shit. This project has been planning and worked on for 3 years. Just because a new mayor thinks it starts with her doesn’t mean it’s being rammed through.
