gimme the good, the bad and the in between.  The wife and I are in the beginning stages of a TX road trip and Perini's is the first place I thought of.  No real destination or days, we are gonna pick some great food spots and then connect the dots.  So, if you know of great breakfast, lunch or midnight snack joint speak up and build a case.  Maybe we'll all learn something.

One of my favorite tshirts procured from perini’s shop in buffalo gap.

Their burgers are quite good. We used to stop there regularly on our way to lubbock when the kid was going to school there.

It’s great food. My favorite restaurant in Buffalo Gap now that Deutschlander Garden is closed for good.

Order a Jimenez at the bar while you wait. Get the quail legs, peppered strip, and the bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Sit outside on the patio and watch the longhorns graze. Keep an eye out for Tommy Lee Jones or Robert Duvall.

Are you looking for additions to your list that would be in that general area or are you really asking about diners/drive-ins and dives in the entire state??

There's a couple places I like in South Padre.

It's good.  Husband and I enjoyed our steaks there.  I don't know if I'd make a special trip for it, but we hit it on the way to Santa Fe.

Exactly this.  We have no timeline, so we can come and go or be fast or slow.  Any kind of "dive", over night spot (haunted is cool w me, not the wife), or don't miss activity. Since Surly has so many folks scattered all over the state we should get some really good ideas.  I'll be cooped up in the haus for a few weeks on the mend starting Friday.  This will be like letting the dog off the leash on a crisp cool day.   The first thing my wife thought of was Basecamp out in Terlingua. That would be an overnighter, so the next day we'll need a lunch somewhere.   Another place I've heard good things about is Underwood's in Brownwood and also the Love Shack in Fort Worth.  Sadler's in Jacksonville will most likely be part of the first leg, then turn back W or "NW-ish", then .... ?

The peppered strip sounds like my wheelhouse BTW.    Did you make or would recommend reservations?  I'd venture to guess reservations for sure on the weekends, not so much Tuesday thru Friday.

Underwood’s hasn’t been decent in 20 years; I’d stay far away from there. If you’re itching to go somewhere in that area, Cook’s Fish Camp outside of Rising Star is damn good. Or you can head in the other direction towards Rowena and eat at Lowake Steakhouse. Both are much better options than anything Brownwood has to offer.

Yes to reservations at Perini’s. Pass on Love Shack. Not a bad burger but not anything I’d say needs to be on someone’s bucket list.

My wife and I made reservations the day of last May for our anniversary. I'm glad we did, it was pretty busy.

I use this on just about every steak or pork product that I cook at the house. It's amazeballs.

Been wanting to go out the actual restaurant but haven't made it happen. There is apparently a cabin that you can rent and spend the night on the property.

Fuck Tim Love. He's a monumental douchebag.

Because someone else mentioned it, I'll just say that Perini's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lowake.

Yeah, I never came close to equating the two. I suggested other off the beaten path spots in the general area of Brownwood instead of going to Underwood’s.
