There's 5 Big 12 teams ranked (OU, Texas, Texas Tech, Ok State, Baylor) and 2 in the top 10.  For a conference with only 7 softball schools.

For this weekend - Wisconsin is RV and ASU is between 15th and 18th

That's incredible. Even our best pitchers under CC walked a ton of batters, but seemed to get out of most jams

So fucking impressive. Between Elish - a  White disciple who has only been coached by him collegiately - and Shae - no Connie stink on her

she was awful. Past her prime. What he’s done with a freshman shows how good he is.

Are you implying Connie had a prime?

I guess you can't really call her "coaching" of Cat "prime" because Cat was a phenom but she was still responsible for the collegiate development of Cat Osterman and Blaire Luna.  She did decent things with Bollinger and PvS.  Tiarra Davis just had injuries.  She did make Kim Bruins into a pretty serviceable #2 pitcher behind Luna the last time we went to the WCWS.

BUT REALLY - Clark seemed to still be in the age of the pitching circle being 40 feet from the plate and games being 1-0 or 2-1.  Like she never fucking adapted to the NCAA moving it back to 43 feet in '88 and giving offenses the upper hand.  Her offenses during Cat's years were proof of that - she thought she could win games 1-0 with Cat throwing a no-no every game.

Exactly!  She should have been fired after failing to win a championship with Cat.  Instead, she coasted and collected paychecks for another dozen years while the program languished.

Here's to better times now and ahead!

I can only pull back to 2003 in stats:

Cat's Texas career (missing 2002):
2003: 0.61 team ERA, .252 BA, 3.72 rpg
2005: 0.60 team ERA, .233 BA, 2.8 rpg
2006: 0.81 team ERA, .254 BA, 3.73 rpg
2004 (the year Cat took off for the Olympics) - 3.23 ERA, .274 BA, 4.02 rpg

Blaire's Texas career (2010-2013):
2010: 2.47 team ERA, .314 BA, 5.55 rpg - #7 overall seed, got knocked out at home regional
2011: 1.36 team ERA, .324 BA, 5.77 rpg - #3 overall seed, got knocked out in home regional
2012: 2.42 team ERA, 0.33 BA, 6.2 rpg - #6 overall seed, got knocked out by Oregon in home super regional
2013: 1.65 team ERA, 0.322 BA, 5.89 rpg - #4 overall seed, finished 3rd in the WCWS

Since Blair left, ERA surprisingly steadily got lower - 2.8 to 2.97 to 2.42 to 2.11 to 2.45 but BA and rpg got WORSE - 0.33 (5.79) to 0.301 (5.7) to 0.30 (5.31) to 0.278 (4.54) to 0.268 (3.45).

If you gave Cat even 80% of the rpg Luna's teams got, Cat wins a fucking title or 2.

and none televised all freaking weekend.  what a bummer.

ASU game one is Pac-12+.  ASU game 2 is streaming on their site, I think

The ESPN/Clearwater tournament was an aberration because ESPN happened to be hosting it - there's just very little early season softball on TV until April (when the NCAA WBB tournament is over - there's too much programming for basketball right now).  Thank god for LHN, right? April/May is when ESPN and Fox Sports need programming and softball/baseball show up on TV.

Our good games against Minnesota will be on LHN and I REALLY hope the SEC Network heads over to Knoxville for the Tennessee tournament.  Those should be good games that need to be on TV somewhere.

The reality is, ESPN needs to partner with Flo Softball and get those games they stream themselves onto ESPN3/ESPN+ or whatever bullshit it's called now.
