Game Week Thread 2025 game week 3: UTEP @ Texas
Wulaw Horn replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
To me beat yourself means turnovers, penalties and dumb shit stuff that's self inflicted, not being fucking incapable of scoring on good teams. The former is about self inflicted bullshit, the latter is sort of about what your actual quality as a program is. It's a slight distinction but after a loss we say things like "if only we wouldn't have done this, that or the other we'd have won" while they say things like- if only we were capable of completing a forward pass we would have won. There's a distincition there even if there's not a difference. I bet on the incompetant team (them) over the one that likes to cut itself so that it can feel alive (us) if it all comes down to the end of the game. -
Damn, you boozed up at 2 Central on a Monday?

holy shit, every single play was a loss?! I must have left the room on that -36 yard TD pass. Is Campbell-Williams Field designed like a Pacman level? -
Game Week Thread 2025 game week 3: UTEP @ Texas
Wulaw Horn replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
Also, holy shit I've been selling sunshine on this program for 4 years now- since december of 21 when Sark killed the recruiting and the portal. I've got optimistic threads in 2022 and 2023 where I had the zeitgeist of this team and this program right with the arrow pointed up, while a confederacy of dunces surrounded me bleating stupid shit like "6-6 with 8-4 as an absolute ceiling" or "we are losing to Bama" or "we won't be ready for the SEC" or all sorts of other nonsense. Hell, even in the darkest post I've made on here in forever I still say 10-2 or 11-1 and playoffs, losing in the quarters or semi's. That's not exactly grim, that's just what this team looks like to me as a best case scenario, unless we get a lot better, which, hey it could happen and I want it to. If I'm a little more surly than normal I got into some poison ivy while trying to fix up a rental house and it's covering my entier body with rashes, blisters and my eyes swollen shut, head to toes, stomach, legs and gooner. It's day 6. Chat GPT tells me it's the worst from day 4-7. Holy hell I'm miserable, itching, swelling, unable to sleep etc. At least I'm on enough steroids to hit a home run at MMP right now. -
I don’t care if our NFL level WR’s are homegrown or transfers. What I do care about is that we actually get them here. Because if we don’t get them here via the transfer portal and if we don’t see our homegrown talent developing quickly, then we end up in our current situation where Parker Livingstone is our best WR. Which isn’t a slight against Parker because I think he is a very talented WR. However, most people on this board, before the season started, wouldn’t have predicted that Parker would be our best WR right now, let alone the second or even third best WR. And that may speak to a bigger problem about how our homegrown WR’s are developing.

I got stranded at DFW for damn near 24 hours a few years back. Yeah, I tried the airport BBQ. Shouldn't have.

Can we talk about Alabama and Michigan and objectivity?
Nueces River Rat replied to BluTechsan's topic in Football
As someone who has been kind of a Michigan fan since I was little guy back in the late 70's, I can say without reservation this might be one of the worst looking teams since the Brady Hoke / Rich Rod days. Yes they were starting a True Freshmen QB, but that team was flat as on old Coke. They might finish 7-5 again or worse. A red flag that should've been raised by the sports talking heads before their game with Oklahoma is the fact they didn't exactly look that strong against New Mexico the week before. I thought they were going to come in much stronger against OU, but after that performance against New Mexico I was like hold the phone. This is why I am no where close to being on the OU is back train and neither should Sooner fans. It kind of reminds me of the year we beat Norte Dame at home in OT and everyone including the sports media though we were back to later just crater because Norte Dame turned out to be a dud. The jury is still out on Bama this year. I know some people wrote them off because of their performance against Florida State. But FSU might turn out to be pretty good this year. We will see how their season evolves. -
PSU pretty much always "literally beats themselves" so I have no idea why you'd think this year would be any different. I'd love our chances against both them and Notre Dame.

My wife and I were having a conversation about Vegas a couple days ago after we saw that stupid new commercial for the first time. When we lived in PHX, we would periodically hop a flight up to Vegas for the weekend to gamble a bit, get a cabana at the pool and lounge, eat at great restaurants, etc. It was never a cheap weekend, but it also didn’t feel like you were being viewed as a rube whose sole purpose for living was to get screwed by the entire hospitality industry. It has been years since we’ve been back and we periodically talk about doing a weekend to relive old times, but then we realize that we’ll just be pissed off the entire time and it will ruin the nostalgia.

In the time it will take to reverse things sufficiently, climate change will have Houston underwater and most of Texas an uninhabitable desert wasteland. but, you know, here’s to hoping!

My favorite part of dog stick stories is when they're big enough to carry a stick longer than the entrance door is wide. Gets 'em every time. -
I mean- this is why I’m perfectly comfortable saying we go 11-1 or 10-2 and are favored in all our games sans perhaps Georgia. it’s a shitty year for college football with no great teams, but Ohio state has shown they aren’t going to literally beat themselves and I would guess the same about PSU, Notre Dame, probably Georgia. None of those teams are “good” and PSU is really really shitty at doing anything against similarly talented teams, but would you bet on us right now down 13-7 with 1st and 20 on the 20 to punch it in and beat them?
