So in that sense, they are the first generation to have to deal with the social and political reset. It's going to be messy and it sucks for them. I think your point is that we should acknowledge this and try to address their situation (and perceived situation) and find a way to embrace them for political means? Okay sure. I don't think you'll get an argument there except or until the point where the embracing conflicts with the demographics and issues of those who are being benefited by their loss. At which point it's just a math equation, which group is bigger and/or more helpful to the greater cause?

Depends how you define "power," because they almost certainly do have the power to fuck up over and over again without being incarcerated for much of their adult lives (or being summarily executed during a traffic stop)
-
Correct. As is his wont, Vegas64 missed the point. No white cohort lost a percentage of the pie; the age group that had it still has it, the age group that doesn't have it never had it. That justifiably creates resentment, but that resentment is being aimed at the wrong people as we all agree.

Incredibly impressive. Haven't even sniffed the Elite 8 in the past 25 years, then take down the prohibitive favorite and overall 1 seed at their place, another #1 seed w/ the POY at their 5th straight Final 4, then a 3rd #1 seed w/ a recent NC in their pocket. As an aggy hater, I definitely hate it so much, but props to Morrison and his squad for nutting up and believing they could pull that off, then executing it. They've been ass for years and that dude got them to a title in 3 years. I can't find another program that has come so far in such a short period of time. Even w/ Kentucky's title in 2020, they had been to an Elite 8 in 2017 and had been a VERY good program for years, they just couldn't get over the hump in the tournament.

But what’s in bold above is a core them of the essay and I thought it was provocative. The white males who hold power didn’t lose it, and the ones who were denied opportunity during the period we are discussing never had it.

BBC; Russian general killed by car bomb in Moscow, officials say A Russian general has been killed in a car bombing in Moscow, officials have said. Russia's Investigative Committee said Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov died on Monday morning after an explosive device planted under a car detonated. He is the third military official to have been killed in bomb attacks in the Russian capital over the last year. Sarvarov, 56, was the head of the armed forces' operational training department, the committee said. It added one theory being investigated was that the bomb was planted with the involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. Ukraine has not commented. Sarvarov died in hospital as a result of his injuries, the committee said, adding it had opened an investigation into murder and illegal trafficking of explosives. Investigators have been sent to the scene, in a car park near an apartment block in the south of Moscow. Images from the area show a badly damaged white Kia Sorento with the doors blown out, surrounded by other vehicles. According to Russian media, Sarvarov previously took part in combat operations during the Ossetian-Ingush conflict and the Chechen wars in the 1990s and early 2000s, and also led operations in Syria between 2015-2016. Reuters Investigators work near a destroyed car after a blast from an explosive deviceReuters Investigators could be seen working at the scene on Monday morning Vladimir Putin was informed of Sarvarov's death immediately, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, a number of military officials and high-profile individuals have been targeted in the Russian capital. Darya Dugina, the 29-year-old daughter of a prominent nationalist figure and Putin close ally, was killed in a suspected car bombing in 2022. Gen Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack last April, while Gen Igor Kirillov died in December 2024 when a device hidden in a scooter was detonated remotely. A Ukrainian source later told the BBC that Kirillov was killed by Ukraine's security service, though this was never confirmed on the record. As a matter of policy, Ukraine never officially admits or claims responsibility for targeted attacks. AP; Car bomb kills Russian general in Moscow MOSCOW (AP) — A car bomb killed a Russian general on Monday, the third such killing of a senior military officer in just over a year. Investigators said Ukraine may be behind the attack. Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, died from his injuries, said Svetlana Petrenko, the spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, the nation’s top criminal investigation agency. He was 56. “Investigators are pursuing numerous lines of inquiry regarding the murder. One of these is that the crime was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence services,” Petrenko said. Since Moscow sent troops into Ukraine nearly four years ago, Russian authorities have blamed Kyiv for several assassinations of military officers and public figures in Russia. Ukraine has claimed responsibility for some of them. It has not yet commented on Monday’s death.

Not necessarily related to this exact situation but Trump's lawsuits and withholding of mergers does create an atmosphere where news orgs have to take his response into account. News orgs can defy him but they run the risks to do so. It's very likely that Netflix won't be able to buy Warner Bros/Discovery because they don't want CNN but Paramount does. And Trump would love to make CNN and revamping of its coverage as part of his approval of an acquisition.

I'm trying to recall - and may be wrong - but I don't think I've ever heard him refer to himself as an alcoholic or say that he quit drinking entirely. The closest I can remember is someone saying that he's sober in an interview and Sark didn't correct them. He's talked a lot about being open and honest about his past, which obviously includes severe drinking problems, but that's not the same as self-identifying as an alcoholic. It probably doesn't mean much either way. A person is who he is, regardless of what he calls himself. I just want to have my story straight. Masterful no-info non-update from IT. So there are two things here. I agree with most of this, but 2) is incorrect. There are a bazillion of these jobs out there, but we have told masses of people they are too good for them. But the first is something I have said for a long, long time. The 20th in America was welfare for mediocre white dudes. Full fucking stop. You could an abject moron, and not just survive, but actually thrive. This is the truth as much as it offends anyone to hear it. The second part is we absolutely have to provide for our citizenry. I have said it several times here, but straight society just has no clue the amount of people who are just clinging on to survival. Any recognition of them is invariably some form of they make poor choices. Yeah no shit? They are working at their capacity. The answer isn't just let them starve, it's to provide a basic stable life. It should be a boast that the US can feed and house everyone no matter how great or small! It's literally a way to brag how rich we are! But yeah we suck of billionaires who are robbing us blind. It's madness.

You’re not alone. I had one leave dallas on the 8th, went to Chicago, St Louis, Chicago, KC suburb, KC suburb, spending days at each stop, and may still get here eventually. -

I'm honestly impressed that every forgotten C-list entertainer hasn't jumped in on the MAGA grift. They're so desperate to add to their conservative celebrity roster, it's gotta be free money. But it's really only been the truly shameless/irrelevant.
