  2. Zuckerberg says the White House pressured Facebook to ‘censor’ some COVID-19 content during the pandemic | PBS News WASHINGTON (AP) — Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg says senior Biden administration officials pressured Facebook to “censor” some COVID-19 content during the pandemic Zuckerberg alleges that the officials, including those from the White House, “repeatedly pressured” Facebook for months to take down “certain COVID-19 content including humor and satire.” The officials “expressed a lot of frustration” when the company didn’t agree, he said in the letter. “I believe the government pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it,” Zuckerberg wrote in the letter dated Aug. 26 and posted on the committee’s Facebook page and to its account on X.
  3. Et Tu, Ash? with the use of TUDDY
  4. So, @Descendant has a remarkably similar "debate" style to @Anastasis. Probably just coincidence.
  5. I was wondering what this fucking moron has to say about this. He probably still considers Jimmy a friend, so that combined with his previous stance on cancel culture should lead to a pretty vicious take down of the administration. Right?
  6. That's fine but it doesn't matter. Globally, social media is not going anywhere and it can and is used for positive change (which was your whole anti-point). Extremely young Americans are, in their own way, just as intertwined with global culture as young Nepalis and Phillipines and Arab Spring youth were. "Everyone on Earth under 30 was basically born into a world where that’s always been the case. Obviously that’s going to change how geopolitics works! And American lawmakers clearly don’t understand that (yet)."
  7. That is a pet peeve of mine
  8. Obviously Spears is in the conversation for NFOY. Is Stafford in contention for NPOY? Certainly 1st team AA if she keeps this up.
  9. Ash didn't need defenders. He was very good when healthy. He needed to not get concussions.
  10. “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.”
  11. Was it The Ritz that NiN played in Austin at some point in the 90's? A buddy went and said it was just about the best show he ever saw.
  12. This thread is Exhibit A that the Cloak Roomers (on both sides) are completely incapable of distinguishing between the 2 forums. I'll never understand why they want to have the same political debates on the same topic in 2 different forums but pretty clear at this point posters that want updates on actual "news" go somewhere else which is a shame.
  13. I'm gonna be honest - I think most people admired Kirk's ability to say the mean things they already felt while intertwining it with some stuff about Jesus that they could hide behind if needed. There are millions of people who fervently defend their Christian beliefs yet this guy is the one they idolized. What makes him different is all that other stuff that we aren't allowed to talk about since he died.
  14. I've followed Nepal, and certainly social media has been credited with connecting young people during the Arab Spring and in the periodic protests in Iran. Kind of like any tool, it's what you make of it. That said, I'm taken with Scott Galloway's criticism ("tobacco of our generation") and agree with Jonathan Haidt that it's super harmful for kids, in particular. It's hard to deny that the world online increasingly doesn't resemble the real world, and that's problematic when so much time is spent there.
  15. Thought I would share this. Good for David Ash. Many of y’all were very big defenders of Ash back in the day. He normally doesn’t post much. Good for him for speaking up.
  16. Yep, that's what I've drawn as a conclusion as well.
  17. They disagree in the same way they disagreed with the outcome of the 2020 election. It's all bullshit and vibes and "many people are saying". There's no actual critique there aside from culture warring, it isn't backed by facts. The most glowing thing I hear about Kirk is the LIE that he believed in and preached peaceful speech. His words and rhetoric were in the mouth of the El Paso shooter. His words and rhetoric were in the mouths of Jan6 rioters. He was a cultural arsonist, and he's being mourned by people who like the smell of a campfire
  18. The owner of a Tesla can literally pull up the car's exact location on their phone at any time. Even if he had lent the car out, he would still be able to do that. You also get all sorts of notifications on the car's status.
  19. I doubt major corporations take individual complaints seriously, but a sending a few letters to advertisers pointing out that their products are no longer on one's shopping list can't hurt. If the numbers get big enough (which they won't) . . .
  20. Plenty of Patton Oswalt tickets still available for Paramount tomorrow night. If you've never seen him, he's awesome.
  21. No doubt, 100% there are a lot of people that admire Charlie Kirk for his racism and J6 insanity. But I think, at least from what I've witnessed, is that most people actually admired Charlie Kirk for his evangilism and fervent defense of his (and by extension, their) beliefs and religion. They see him as a lion for their faith in an unchurched, biblically hostile world (even in the big tent of Christianity, where there are faiths and churches who are more "progressive" in views).
  22. The SEC will reveal Tuesday *all* opponents for every team in its new 9-game schedule for football in 2026. The 3 "permanent" rivals will be referred to as "annual opponents," which will be reviewed every 4 years. It isn't hard B12, even if nobody wants to play UCF every year.
  23. That may be stranger than my irrational anger towards back in parkers
