  1. Trump can’t let someone retaliate so what his is next move? Bump up the Canadian tariffs? Close the Canadian borders and stop flights? Deport all Canadians? We know one thing is that he can’t do anything to lower the temperature.
  2. Collins is up for reelection in ‘26. Maybe Maine will finally realize how bad she is.
  3. Trump will spin this in that her family is embarrassed that she was a DEI hire, and directly refer to her as the unnamed DEI hire. Or he will just use her name.
  4. We can only hope to purge MAGA by taking the country to the brink. I know and hate that many will suffer from Trump tariffs but we might as well get the pain started. 2026 elections in 21 months. The House can easily flip and the Senate isn’t impossible.
  5. Looks like the tariffs are pushing the 10 year higher and this is only before they start.
  6. Tariffs will create job losses here. Higher prices will lower demand which so US employers won’t need as many workers. The 10 year treasury rate should spike and it really hasn’t dropped much anyway. It’s possible that if the economy collapses enough, the rates won’t raise too much. the market reacted poorly to the news today but I assume they is still hope from the market that it won’t happen. Monday could be a bloodbath on wall st. not to get political but the rumor is that the 3 countries are in the dark what they have to do in order to avoid tariffs tomorrow.
  7. My initial reaction to the email too. While it sucks, you don’t want to stand out in the federal workforce right now.
  8. We're adding unprecedented tariffs to our largest trading partners tomorrow and more "details" will be released tomorrow. What a shitshow. I bet they're literally prompting ChatGPT to design a tariff plan.
  9. sounds like DOGE and Elon are going to scrutinize every payment and perhaps prove that each payment is adhering to Trump's priorities. Elon is famous for tearing out a server and then waiting to see if that caused a problem. Maybe stop a few million Treasury payments and listen for the outrage or impact. After all, what is worst thing that can happen if you stop paying people.
  10. How many here follow the conventional wisdom with a stock-bond asset mix by subtracting your age from 100, and that should be your stock percentage. im maybe 90-10 heavy on stock. And each new dollar I invest is in stock etfs. I’m 55 and can’t even imagine only having 45% in stock and the remainder in income. Perhaps I’m fooling myself after back-to-back >20% annual gains. For anyone heavier on bonds/income, is it your own risk profile or do you feel more comfortable following tried and true strategies? I’m open to discussion that I’m making a big mistake.
  11. If true, him denying it won’t make any difference.
  12. True but in my experience they also have backup power. It may be limited but the internet doesn’t drop immediately.
  13. Says a lot that the worlds wealthiest man that he won’t honor a promise that he made to people as he fired them. Then wants to walk it back that his promise isnt enforceable. And Trump has a lifetime of broken contracts with small businesses who can’t afford to sue him. if those two send an email promising 8 months severance if I reply with “Resign” and stop showing up/dialing into work, there is zero chance this promise will be met.
  14. Elon offered 3-6 months of severances for those who were hit by the main Twitter layoff in 2023. Elon then gave them 1 month a few months later. Dared them to sue.
  15. My priorities in bold. I only bolded the bitcoin one because I own some.
  16. Most likely the best workers would take the offer because they're confident they can find employment elsewhere. The worst of the worst are the ones who will stay. The people you mention who are mailing it in. I've never heard of voluntary buyouts being a benefit from an efficiency standpoint. And as a citizen I only care about the efficiency. Personally I don't care about govt costs especially as I get older.
  17. I don't have any problem with the general idea of a buyout but I don't think the best method is for the top of the organization to offer buyouts to 100% of the workforce. Seems a bit manic to do so. I bet if I polled Americans if they wanted more daylight hours throughout the year, a majority of Americans would support it.
  18. The win-win for Trump is if many take the offer and he fires them without paying them.
  19. Why do you believe that Trump and Elon would stick to their word? Past history says they don’t.
  20. There are always people resigning or retiring every day. For that small percentage, there would be little risk in taking this offer but their hr rep most likely won’t be able to provide guidance if there is an impact to retirement compensation. I imagine govt hr has no idea about this offer or what it means.
  21. MAGA believes that the federal government and the federal employees are the enemy and out to get MAGA. Every action and treatment from the Trump Admin will start with this in mind. Therefore there is no action or lie that is immoral when dealing with a hostile enemy. Why try to figure out what 20%, or whatever, to cut when you can get them to volunteer to be fired by abandoning their job. Or perhaps Trump doesn’t care if they get paid severance or not, but he will leave that to Congress to fund. Spoiler alert, they won’t.
  22. Of course they’re still eligible to be fired. And most likely everyone who accepts this offer will be fired.
  23. The authors of the project 2025 book even admit that they didn’t add all the worst parts in the book.
  24. Yep. When Elon fires 3/4 of Twitter, it doesn’t matter if the site is slow or the search function stops working. He can always look to fix it later or not fix it. If you dump federal employees, who knows the consequences. Social security payment didn’t show up? Theres 50k people in the queue in front of you so we will get to it in a year. Your fault for being poor.
  25. The fed employees are given 1 week to decide. First red flag. Then they’re told to sign up, and just stop working. Sounds like grounds for firing them if they stop working. and let’s think what occurs when Trump and Elon refuse to pay? Perhaps somewhere down the line they will receive pay by court order or from a sympathetic Congress and President, but Trump still wins. His project 2025 goal is to drastically reduce the size of govt. he doesn’t care if it harms people or ultimately costs more money. They’re gone.
