  1. I was in school 10 years ago and I loved that I arrived to my only TX-OU experience at the Cotton Bowl to hear that for the first time. It was great. Had no idea we did that until I was in the Cotton Bowl. It is pretty lame to hear it otherwise.
  2. This. I've been saying to anybody who will listen that neither Hager nor Omenihu are even close to the level that our best DE's were on. (Post-Rose Bowl NC) Orakpo>Kindle>Jeffcoat/Okafor>... probably one or two more...>Hager/Omenihu. These guys aren't close to those All Big-12 players.
  3. Or he could just read the first two pages, where that exact point is discussed pretty openly on this thread on a few posts.... Edit: Shit there's another example right above this post. I've heard a lot of racism from my extended family in the RGV. There's a special mix of being ignorant to any other people other than Brown/White down there, while also feeling the need to distinguish between "American" and Immigrant. Luckily my parents have always been good about that, but my sister's family lets the n-bombs and "wetbacks" flow freely over the holidays. Some people need someone else to shit on, or they'd have to realize they and their families aren't shit outside of their own little bubble.
  4. Glad Porter won. Always liked him. Garcia has been coddled his entire career but there's only so long before you have to fight a live one, and he's lost the two most important fights of his career. He'll fight Berto or Broner or someone to make some money for as long as possible. It seems like Garcia/Spence might happen even before Porter/Spence. Both fighters want it, Mikey is being vocal about it. Although I don't think it's a good matchup, calling it a "suicide" mission is kind of over the top (not just here but I've seen it called similar on other sites). I wouldn't pick Mikey, but he's way too damn good to go out there and get obliterated by Spence. Spence isn't going to put his lights out or cripple him, if anything he will make it a phone-booth fight that wears down Mikey maybe for a late stoppage. I'm thinking like when DLH jumped way too high and challenged Bernard Hopkins. He had the skills to challenge but shouldn't have been in that ring like 3 divisions above where he should have been (especially not with a HOF fighter like B-Hop). The chorus of "nobody wants to see this because Spence is literally going to paralyze Mikey" is growing a bit too loud, lets temper the hysteria and remember that Mikey is a Top 5 fighter in the world right now. It won't be a career-ending loss if he gets stopped by Spence.
  5. I grew up there in the 90s/2000s and I definitely heard it a few times. Guess we cancel each other out.
  6. 70s and 80s? The upstanding educated frat "kids" over at OU were singing "there'll never be a n---- S-A-E" chants on the bus like 5 years ago.... and I wouldn't doubt for one second that their peers across Texas share some chants like that in the comfort of their own spaces.
  7. Gilbert has much more sample size than the one or two games of this year, but I caught some of that USF game this Saturday and their QB, Barnett (former Alabama player apparently) looked great. He took over the game in the 4th quarter. He's also 22 years old, and not an injured true freshman that should have been redshirted. Comparing Gilbert's time here to the rest of his career isn't apples-to-apples.
  8. Yeah I really like Sterns and it's clear he's going to be a baller, but that first pick was gift wrapped to him, the ball was under thrown by about 8 yards. Both him and Foster will be fine though. Boyce was targeted for the entire second half. At least Boyd handled his side of the field. Hope Davis (who was targeted last week) and Jones are enough for us to slow down USC next week. Really wish we had a 5th-year senior DB to mitigate some of the problems we are having at CB right now, but alas, our coach who has told us for two years we have a national championship-level O-line is also telling us our DB room is overflowing with talent based on a bunch of guys who have no game experience. We've been beaten deep during our first two games since. Multiple times. Davis and Boyce need to get their confidence back quick because CB is a position that can turn on you on a dime.
  9. We get why you wouldn't care. It's pretty simple actually.
  10. This is assuming they want to experience "Texas" though, and not be amidst the throngs of hipsters and tourists in Generic Millenial City. And this is coming from a resident of the most gentrified part of the city. If I were visiting I'd put it on a different trip though. Maybe a central Texas town trip.
  11. Friday/Saturday nights have gotten unbearable at White Horse. Hipsters/Tourists crowding the dance floor shoulder-to-shoulder, no common sense. Thursday or Sunday would be a blast though.
  12. He emailed the AD about statues on the mall?
  13. I would need some advanced stats on this. They were 43% of "production" (I'll call it), which means about 21% each, maybe because they were about 1/5 of our viable receiving options each? (Williams, Beasley, Zeke).... that's not some huge ridiculous amount. Dez was our primary receiver, and was notoriously a pretty average (to below average) primary WR. I'd need the advanced stats to show me how much better our offense was when Dez and Witten were the primary targets for the majority of targets during a given drive/quarter/game. Because my untrained "Joe Fan" eyes it had been 2 years already where trying to get Dez involved in the game resulted in the rest of the offense getting off rhythm.
  14. That first video is hilarious. I thought it was a comedy skit.
  15. Garcia-Porter this weekend. 3 years ago, before the rise of Errol Spence, I would've been ecstatic about this fight, but now it only slightly moves the needle. I'll be at the UT game but hoping to catch some of it when I get home. Canelo-GGG is sneaking up quickly too. I'm still riding with Canelo, even though the majority of people seem to have turned on him (probably with reason), but I can't help but want to see the hype behind GGG finally get beaten out. I still say the gameplan should be Ward-Kovalev II.... Go to the body early and often and use your speed to dictate the terms of the fight. A few nut shots won't hurt either. It's not illegal unless it's called.
  16. Really chaps my ass. They get nervous and revert to the same bullshit rather than trusting the past 8 months of practice. Not that it would be hard to believe after his farce of a QB "competition."
  17. I count 5 egregiously missed throws (2 for interceptions. another that Collin didn't block for Duvernay, but the throw was still terrible), time, pocket, he had all but just missed. I also counted two missed check-down opportunities where he tried a throw he didn't make but had Watson for 4-5 yards right in front of him. The difference between 2nd and 5 and 2nd and 10 is monumental from an offensive playcalling standpoint. There's another 2 (to Moore and to Watson) that the worst things about the play weren't his throws but they were still bad (pressure in his face to Moore, Watson fumbled his in the 4th qtr). This doesn't look good. His offense didn't always help him out (a bit of pressure, not last year, but some. Collin not blocking on screens.), but if we're looking for a QB that can elevate the offense when he does get opportunities, this does not bode well.
  18. Is Lil'Jordan a WR? Because if so he is our most talented WR by a mile. Collin is our most physically gifted, and uses his height pretty well, but he is not more talented than LJ.
  19. I had a pretty substantial worry about Omenihu and Hager over the summer. Omenihu has never taken over a game or even over a series, and I was confused why so much stock was being put into his development (he *looks* the part, like Naashon did). Unlike Chris, Hager actually has made a few splash plays during his time at UT, but not enough to warrant me penciling him in as an All-Big 12 pick. He showed the same undisciplined approach on the first drives against the jet sweep that he showed us 2 years ago. Neither of these guys are the 2nd coming of Brian Orakpo, which is understandable, but neither are they the 2nd coming of Sergio Kindle. Ok, 2nd round pick, that's understandable too, but are they the 2nd coming of Jackson Jeffcoat or Alex Okafor at least? No. Them neither. I think we've forgotten what a caliber DE looks like. Boyd is still the exact same headcase he has always been. Davante has always been a solid tackler and lost as shit in coverage. Guess what he showed Saturday? Nothing new. These are the things that disappointed me most. All this talk of development but they looked the exact damn same on the field. Same 'inflatable flailing arm man' act when the ball is in the air, with the head turn always a count too late to avoid the flag. It's bullshit. Pick: We might cover the spread, and I'll be assuaged for a week, but if we lose close to USC again with a valiant effort, we won't be jacking each other off this time, because then MENSA's claims of us not being the same team as last year look even worse.
  20. Beat me to it. WTF is happening in here?
  21. That line about Sasha Vucecic having some sort of self-described competitive advantage after having played Ginobili as a teenager is hilarious. Watch the guy the whole highlight and after every show he makes Vucecic sulks and drops his shoulders. I hated that guy for like 2 postseasons. This one hurts, maybe more than Timmy. Timmy was done, his knees and bounce were gone. Manu had gas in the tank.
  22. take it to the cloak room.
  23. IMO weed isn't powerful enough to overcome good parenting, so make sure you are instilling worthwhile values and character that she can use when the tough decisions/situations come. Yeah it relaxes you and lowers your inhibitions a bit, but I've been around plenty of smokers, and weed doesn't make good people any less of good people, but it does put "adventurous" people in spots where that trait can get them in trouble.
  24. Breckyn talks like he is having a conversation with the stoners from the party at the moontower on Dazed & Confused. Martha Washington, man. She was a hip, hip lady.
  25. I'll have a half of whatever this guy's having.
