  1. I need to run some cables through my ceiling and through a wall. They will connect to a cable box. As of right now, it will probably just be HDMI. I might decide to run the power cord from the TV through this path. How can I do this up to code? Electrician wants to put an outlet behind the TV but I’m concerned about the amount of space it’s going to take up. We’re putting trim over a brick fireplace. Can they run free or do they need to be in a tube?
  2. Depends what you’re looking for and what you’re trying to do. We’re remodeling a house and just looked at a full load of appliances for the kitchen. I would look around quick because a lot of vendors are having rebates that end 12/31. And some of those rebates exclude buying at places like HD and Lowe’s.
  3. You mentioned Allen Edmunds, why not just go there. DO NOT buy at Nordstrom if you have wide feet. They usually don’t carry the wide selections even though they say they do. The sales guy will get you a larger size to get the width right. The shoe will flip up on you. Go to the AE store and get fitted. I took a pair I had bought at Nordstrom to the AE store to get restored (whatever they call it). Talked to them for a while. They said they would do it, but in the end I had shoes that didn’t fit. They thought I was throwing money away. They pulled out some shoes that were my actual size. Holy hell. Changed my life (I wear a suit every day). I had 2 pairs of AE that didn’t fit right. Manager gave me a discount of $100 because I had just missed a sale. I’ve bought 2 more pairs that fit right since, when they’ve had sales. It’s a huge difference. The other thing about buying from the store, I have gone in there a couple times and had them clean up the edges of the soles or some scuffs. They’re happy to do it.
  4. I have a client that uses this and is really happy.
  5. Years ago I was in Home Depot with the wife. We were in the lumber area late in the evening and no one was around. It smelled funky and she kept bitching. I figured it was the treated lumber. So we turn the corner and there is a pile of shit in the middle of the next aisle. We ran.
  6. Not sure why you think you have to spend $1k on a tree for it to look nice. I grew up with fake trees and when I had my own house started doing the real thing. After 12 years of marriage my wife decided she wanted a fake tree (she’s always had real). She bought one at some store called AtHome for around 400. It’s 7.5 ft and looks a lot better than what I grew up with. And once it’s decorated you can’t tell the difference. Pre-lit. Quick and easy to put up. I bought a bag on amazon for less than $30 to store it in.
  7. Wife got home and we had a discussion about what constitutes a wreck or an accident. In the future, when she hits something that’s no big deal, she’s supposed to just come out with it. We’ll see. She asked me to call a client on Saturday to find out where we should take the car to get fixed. I went in the garage and got some scratch remover (Meguiars). 95% of the marks came off. There are 2 gouges in the bumper that need to be filled and repainted. They are tiny. Her mom said they probably won’t even do that any time soon if ever. Obviously I we had the discussion to get it done and we’ll pay. After I got the minor marks off the car, wife says “I’m impressed you had that kind of stuff on hand.” I just smiled and said “You’re welcome.”
  8. Definitely want to leave Grandy at home. Dude won’t be much use.
  9. Been there. 4 years ago my twins were 1, oldest was 2. I was on my way to work and started feeling like shit. Called wife. Just so happened her mom was coming in town for a couple days then they were going to her house for Xmas holiday. I would join a few days later. Tested positive for flu. I went to hide in my office until MIL could get there and evacuate everyone. Sick as hell for 5 days with flu all alone.
  10. I know a guy that knew Stan they had a great relationship. It’s a sad time.
  11. Friday morning wife is headed to Austin from Houston area to visit a friend. She was leaving at 8am. She took her mom’s car (newer and more reliable than mine and I need her’s because of car seats). I get a call at 8:24 that goes like this: Her: I’ve done a bad thing. Don’t get mad. Me: What? Her: (getting upset, but obviously driving) I don’t know how it happened and I think it’s really bad. Me: What is it? Her: I got in a wreck. In my mom’s car. I hit our neighbor’s new mailbox. Me: (long pause) That’s it? Where are you? Her: (said wherever on her way, seemed a lot farther than she should have been) [she went on how only daughter was home and left msg with neighbors wife and I would have to deal with this over the weekend] Me: What happened? Her: Don’t get mad I’m already upset. Me: I’m not mad, I’m asking what happened. Somehow she’s in the car in front of our house and starts entering her cousin’s new address into Waze. The car is rolling and she doesn’t realize it. When she does, car is either hitting the curb or hitting the mailbox. I couldn’t tell if the car was really in park or not. It’s an Acura MDX. My BIL who is very detailed was driving that car once and got out (also in front of my house). The car started rolling away and almost ran him over. He swore up and down it was in park. He hates the car. And I’m pretty sure it’s rolled after FIL has claimed to put it in park. So we discussed it, I got her to calm down before she continued her drive and she made it. Mailbox wasn’t that bad. I bent it back in place. Neighbor will probably want to replace it, and that’s fine. MIL laughed when wife called to tell her.
  12. Just bought a new house. Yard (St Augustine) has a couple large weed spots. What can I do to start attacking those? I should probably try and get pics.
  13. That belt seems to casual for a suit with those shoes.
  14. For some unknown reason, the last few days, I’ve felt like we should have another kid. Oldest is 6 and twins just turned 5. Risk of twins is higher. I had originally said no after 40 (which was in March). Wife is still just 36. She would be game. I mentioned this to my assistant. She thinks this is because my dog died and I miss walking her. She suggested I get a dog before I get the wife pregnant. There’s a lot of substance there. We’re going to be moving into a bigger house in about 5 months. Space won’t be a problem. Am I crazy? I mentioned it to my wife and I think she blew it off.
  15. When we lived in Tarrytown we had something I called a basement. Pier and beam house. Lot sloped back and whoever built it dig out under the back of the house. It was only accessible from the outside, but it was pretty awesome. Never hot. There was an ac unit - handler (to the house) in it and I ran the condensation line to a bucket. In the summer there was so much condensation ( old unit) I set a timer up to a pump and ran the water out to my garden through a drip system twice a day. When I first moved in the room would flood with an inch or two of water. We painted masonry sealer on it and that was the end of water coming in.
  16. While I agree, for overall health reasons people need to slim down, I don’t agree that it always makes people look older. I know plenty of slim and in shape people that are my age and look 10 years older. I know a really big guy that is 10 years older than me and I never would have known until we had a discussion about hold old we were. Sometimes you just can’t control genetics.
  17. My wife’s niece is in town. She’s 1 and has usually been standoffish towards me. Today she let me hold her and play with her. My kids are 6 and 5 (twins). Originally we said we were done when I turned 40. Chance of twins again is higher than normal. I could handle one more but no way could I handle twins again. SIL is preggo and due in April. She’ll be 40. My wife is 36.
  18. How did this lady get licensed or whatever to be able to run this kind of business?
  19. This probably has some truth to it. Like I mentioned, she didn’t make Pom this spring. Made the final day. That was tough on her but she handled it well. The one she wanted wasn’t top 6. She ended up OK and I think she’s going to be happy.
  20. No. I don’t have pictures of her. But I bet if I really tried I could find one.
  21. She’s sheltered. Smart girl, just a little clue less about some things in life. I was surprised she was dropped by the one she wanted. She’s a cute girl, was head cheerleader. She’s a goodie goodie. She got into UT because she was top 3%. If I can find a pic of her I can post I will.
