  1. I have a friend that worked for Paul Allen and was being recruited to work for Bezos (personal staff, not for Amazon). The gossip was that Bezos travels with a team designers that re-orient everything wherever he might be staying. They’ll bring in all new furniture and furnishings to a hotel room and everything has to look poised for a magazine shoot. I thought that was interesting when I heard it-a man so rich that he decided he no longer need suffer the indignity of an ugly throw pillow. He’s got another team of trainers (not a personal trainer, a team of them) that travel with him wherever he goes.
  2. It does seem a little weird to me that a city the size and aspiration of Houston would have the same anything for 30 years running.
  3. At least on the corporate front I’ve read that HR managers are no longer considering breaks in employment as a negative. For one, 2020 made it commonplace for many people, and the millennial on down cohorts don’t have the same stigma against it (want to go on a spirit journey for six months? You’re hired!).
  4. This may be just risk aversion fatigue but I’ve been drinking the water without incident since the start of the notice. If there are parasites hopefully they will help me hit my New Years resolution to lose five pounds.
  5. I tried that shit but all I ever get is chuckles from my neighbors. Maybe I should get more explicit with a “Send your horny wives here” sign.

Haha, El Arroyo was terrible long before the Winstanleys. It was for margaritas and you hoped to not get too drunk to go elsewhere to eat. Changing the subject a bit, has anyone been to the Justine’s head chef burger pop up Le Beef?
  7. I tell them it’s my anniversary every time we go and I think they’ve caught on that we’re abusing it. No freebies for us.
  8. I wouldn’t read too much into that. IT has written the same thing every spring since 2006.
  9. I’m a little over staying in the Quarter, personally, but I’m also no longer 21 trying to see how many hurricanes I can drink before getting carried back to the hotel. If you must be there I’d pay extra for the Roosevelt or Monteleone just to have the people watching from the bar. Also a great way to meet strangers if you’re social.
  10. To be fair, I had the same thought about our own haul of DL this year, three of whom probably end up at nose and only Bryant looks to be the kind of big body that’s more natural there.
  11. Thanks! Considering I’ve never had a vehicle with a back-up camera even a shitty one is going to seem like a huge advance in technology.
  12. I still need to do a write up on my pre-Christmas visit but one topical item is that I had a ton of wait list reservs including several of those and didn’t get have any luck at all with things coming open. I’d definitely make sure being their back-up plan isn’t your first option. We did have luck hitting Pastis with no reserve and charming a hostess-also my favorite meal on the trip. Reminded me of a Friday lunch at Galatoire’s.
  13. Can you post it? It doesn’t like my Ad blocker and my desire to allow an exception for a Northern Colorado newspaper website I’m unlikely to ever visit again is low.
  14. I don’t profess to have the best palate but I didn’t care for Seagrass, at least taken neat, if you want an opinion that’s not a rave.
  15. Me too and I don’t understand why we’re not hearing about this kind of thing more. If I’m Saban I’m actually using my 85 scholarships on my worst 85 and letting the higher profile folks pay their way with NIL money.
  16. Just wanted to chime in that I've heard Craig Way go station break to station break discussing the various permutations Texas men's basketball could be seeded in the tournament and manage to detail probably 150 different scenarios in what is undoubtedly a demonstration of a genius level command of choices that only a super computer could possibly equal. And it made for quite possibly the worst radio I've ever personally experienced.
  17. Just by coincidence went to June’s All Day yesterday and their happy hour price is 25% off ALL food. That’s a pretty tremendous discount for a date night out. Cenote is, across the board, pretty budget friendly for brunch. Taco Deli is not generally thought of as inexpensive for what you get, but their four dinner entrees with rice and beans are a very good value for the food amount and quality.
  18. I would do it but that’s because I don’t see anyone else that’s an obvious improvement that’s possibly available or underemployed. Then again, I was convinced Tom Herman was going to be great here so what the fuck do I know. I do wonder about the pitch Texas is making if they are expecting a fall decision. I would be pretty clear with him that he’s going to scare off any other top QB commits whether it’s done now or closer to December. In other words, commit now and if he’s uncertain come October I’m quite sure Georgia, Bama, or Clemson will make a spot available in a one man QB class.
  19. What do you think it means? The hope was that Arch would commit in February and lead the recruiting class. If he’s holding off until the fall then that keeps Owens, Cook, and probably some others from committing to Texas and open to other schools in the interim. Plus all the other top dudes are a) eager to see what Aggie will pay, b) just saw two years of Texas mediocrity or worse and it’s only those of us that are diehard fans that believe 5-7 represent hitting bottom. The kids are in wait and see mode. Typically when you have a times like these, dating back to the McWilliams years when I first started following Texas athletics, UT could still count on a few lifers to populate the class early (Sam, for a recent example) and sometimes these guys would be great. Sark and co, at least based on 2021, would prefer to go big game hunting than grab a few of these for momentum purposes.
  20. She’s angling to be the resident Lib on Fox News.
  21. If you say so-I’d imagine if that was untrue there’d be quite a fall in private school demand. Socioeconomic status is ALL over the application process.
