  1. Lawmakers were told that the plot to encircle the Capitol also included plans to surround the White House ― so that no one could harm Trump ― and the Supreme Court, simply to shut down the courts. The plan to surround the Capitol includes assassinating Democrats as well as Republicans who didn’t support Trump’s effort to overturn the election ― and allowing other Republicans to enter the building and control government.
  2. Here we are. I find myself nostalgic for the days that right wing violence could be referred to as “extremist”. It’s closer to “mainstream” on the continuum though we may quibble about where exactly.
  3. Totally ignored his demands for sous vide as well, the bastards.
  4. They did see it coming. We all saw it coming. It was the ‘admitting as a nation that what your eyes are seeing and ears are hearing is problematic’ part that we couldn’t master. Largely because of virulent propaganda that became entrenched over decades. Better deal with the poisonous well that folks keep drinking from or nothing changes.
  5. Can they handle this on their own? I don't believe that. The party abandoned ideology in favor of Trump fealty long ago. Never bet a trend will end. The GOP already crossed the point of no return. Ironically, it is incapable of genuinely acting on behalf of "America First". Party ranks over everything else. These are painful truths.
  6. You may remember AZ Rep Paul Gosar’s family speaking out against his candidacy last fall. He’s obviously still held in high esteem.
  7. Thanks for sharing that. For me it was a reminder that I'm not crazy, at least with respect to imagining the political madness we've lived as a nation. I have thought and said many of the very same things. I did have to laugh at the Tubervillle blind side personal foul snuck in late in the piece.
  8. The sentiment expressed in your final sentence is what concerns me. We ARE taking them lightly unless this cancer is aggressively rooted out at all levels. It won’t be. Mere awareness is long overdue but far from enough.
  9. Has some enterprising person assembled a state-by-state analysis of origin for arrested and/or identified insurrectionists? It seems like Tennessee is going hard but I don’t want to sell anyone short.
  10. I asked my mom to buy that for me in high school. I think she was just happy I wanted a cookbook. The book disappeared mysteriously, way before its time. Roughly when she learned that the recipes are for pipe bombs and bathtub acid. I never did get to make that Burmese tiger trap.
  11. Dems: Al Franken resigns under pressure after apparently acting inappropriately. GOP: Even after sedition, you'll have to drag us out. The problem is that Trump's base and Rs in general haven't held him accountable in any real way. Cruz and Hawley are courting that base, doing the traditional silly contorted mating dance and dreaming that enough idiots will enable them to be unaccountable too. They may still turn out to be right. Come to think of it, Republicans have tolerated and often lionized lawbreakers on their Team for a long time. Nixon, Ollie North, Kyle the WI shooter are just a few. Maybe, just maybe people who choose to support the Republican Party should endeavor change that. Or honestly admit that you really do give safe cover to enemies of democracy on the reg.
  12. The gold Lame-accented walls are closing in around Trump.
  13. Dark Side of the Moon is what I’m feeling. The lunatics are in my hall.
  14. Just called. Urged Schroder to clarify and/or retract that statement, if it is indeed true. They took my name and address, said they’d pass it along.
  15. Well at least she’s contrite Apparently unfamiliar with FAAFO though.
  16. It’s so hard to keep up. Has Trump floated “It was just a misguided patriotic scavenger hunt organized by Don Jr” yet?
