  1. So far, I don't notice any difference compared to the all-seasons. I just towed the RV all the way out to Big Bend and back, and it felt great. We just pulled a set of M/T off our Jeep, those were loud AF and a terrible ride. Put the Nitto Ridge Grapplers on it and it's night and day, that ride is now glorious.
  2. Oh yeah? Just wait 'til they bust out their T-16s and bullseye every 2m target along the entire battlefront. Especially those in the trenches...
  3. I like Danny and don't really have anything against Lando. But now that neither Danny nor Fred are at McLaren, I can go back to hating on them and enjoying their failures with a completely clear conscience.
  4. Alls I know is that I used to trade these mofos for hot fudge sundaes like a BOSS.
  5. +1 on Superior Seafood, it's really good and the happy hour specials are a welcome break for my wallet...
  6. I think Norris would be substantially better than Stroll. But it's a moo point, because he's the boss's son and that's why he has the ride in the first place.
  7. Anyway, I'm just thinking about what Aston Martin could do if they had a better second driver. Good thing for the lesser teams like Mercedes and Ferrari, that they do not.
  8. Here's a Youtube video with a guy dramatically smoking a cigarette and lamenting the loss of Northcross Mall. However, he does show some inside shots from right before it was torn down, which is kind of cool.
  9. I thought the same. But then McLaren happened. Bwahahahahahaaaaa
  10. Anyway, finally finished up the race this morning, I was out of town camping at Big Bend all last week and didn't get home til Monday. The main question is... did they give Fred TWO 3rd place trophies? 'Cause after all that bulljive, they should have. The RBR is just ridiculous. It's gonna be a long boring season at the front, but there is still a lot of interesting stuff happening between P3 and P8, that will be fun to watch unfold over the course of the season.
  11. As a Ferrari fan, I can agree with this. The team I root for, wears giant shoes and lives under the big top. HOWEVER... McLaren is now making Ferrari look like a precisely tuned machine, battle-tested and honed to perfection. And it has me laughing.
  12. I just replaced the OEM all season tires on my F150, with K02s, and I gotta say I really like them. No real noticeable increase in road hum or tire noise, and they look WAY cooler. They're 20" wheels so I'll never get a really beefy offroad look, there's just not enough sidewall. But overall they still look better and I haven't noticed any change in performance in wet or dry.
  13. Yeah I don't say that about many beers, but it's definitely true of Fat Tire. It could actually use a little more hop to balance.
  14. Yeah we do Ped Falls a lot, it's basically our default when we want to do something close. It's really nice when the Falls are flowing. Sadly the multi-year drought has had a pretty major impact on the water flow, but hopefully this Spring we'll get some rain and get it flowing better. Bastrop State Park used to be my absolute fave for an easy nearby getaway, but the 2011 forest fires wiped out so much of its beauty. It's gonna be a long while before that park recovers, and it won't ever get back to its former beauty in my lifetime. Buescher State Park is next door and didn't burn as much in 2011, but a lot of it did burn during the next round of fires. It's also a lot smaller. There are two LCRA parks on Lake Bastrop that are decent. Pretty small but almost always available because I guess people just don't know about them. And then there are a couple of Army Corps of Engineers parks on Lake Georgetown that we hit sometimes for quick getaways from Austin, and they also don't typically book up months in advance like the state parks do. Their names are Cedar Breaks and Jim Hogg.
  15. This sounds almost like a complaint about rain in the middle of a multi-year drought. Surely this is not a complaint about rain in the middle of a multi-year drought? Because I might have to neg-bomb a bitch for complaining about rain in the middle of a multi-year drought.
  16. Just got back from 5 days at BB National Park. Weather was crap, 34 and rainy and it snowed all day Saturday in the Chisos, but we did the basin/valley hikes like Santa Elena Canyon and it wasn't terrible. The park did look extra beautiful with snow in the mountains, that's for sure.
  17. I love Garner any time throughout the summer. It's way crowded of course and you need to book very far in advance if you're looking for camping spots. But the water in the Frio is cold enough to beat the heat even in July and August. I should note, I have an RV with extremely effective air conditioning. Garner's also nice in the Fall and Spring, but I'm less likely to jump in the water if it's cool/cold outside.
  18. I'm not much for IPAs either. I do like sours, but understand why a lot of folks don't. My favorite styles are European and nobody in the US does European styles better than Live Oak. It's out of the way, out by the airport, but has a really nice biergarten. Their Pilz, Hefeweizen, and Big Bark Vienna-style lagers are all excellent. They also do a lot of smoked beer styles but it sounds like that might be a bit outside your comfort zone. Still, you could try one and see. And Celis is still quite good with their classic Belgian style beers. And I like some of the beers at Pinthouse Pizza, they have a a couple of traditional stouts and lagers that are tasty, along with quite a few IPAs. And although I'm no IPA-lover, the juicy/New England styles can be good, and Pinthouse's Electric Jellyfish falls into that category for me. Many of the other widely praised local Austin breweries tend toward the hoppier IPAs and/or sours.
  19. Yup, that's the deal. Still, as a 19-year-old undergrad, having a place with some atmosphere, where you could BYOB and nobody gave a damn, it was always a good time. Of course back then it was out in the middle of nowhere, now it's surrounded pretty much on all sides by Austin exurbs.
  20. What, are you more of a Famous Dave's kind of guy? I'd recommend it but I don't know of any locations in the Austin area.
  21. First Dickey's, then Bill Miller. But if both are closed, then Terry Black's if you're Central, or Stiles Switch Cedar Park if you're north. I can't comment on South, I ain't no bubba.
  22. I attended the first year. The weekend was a rainy mess for the most part, but even allowing for that, it just wasn't much fun watching those cars labor their way around a proper circuit. And don't even get me started on that bizarre stop/restart "stage" racing. What a truly awful product it delivers. Indycar was much more interesting, track limit issues aside (esp. T19). I came away very impressed with how much performance they achieved on a fraction of the budget compared to F1. If only they weren't so godawful ugly. Removing all that bodywork behind the rear wheels a few years back was a step in the right direction, but they still just look so blocky and weird.
  23. Any cider drinks? Did you get knocked down? Did you get up again?
