Sun Country Airlines

I flew them about 20 years ago (pre 9/11) to Cancun on a Sun Country Vacation trip. It was an older 737 but nothing fell off that wasn't supposed to. The main thing I remember is the air waitress was a bitch about me having a flask. They were strictly a charter outfit then.

"Excuse me, air waitress, could I get a wedge of lime?"

anyone have opinions on this airline?  i've never flown them but might this summer.  from the googles it looks like they have a good safety record and they're not as bad as ryanair in terms of comfort or accommodations.  @DaysOff @Bobby_Batronic what are the reputations of their pilots?

They exist. Other than that I haven’t heard any good or bad. ULCC model, so expect to pay for anything beyond your base fare. They also do a fair bit of cargo flying. Just got a nice raise which compensates their crews competitively with the legacy operators.

Should be fine.

We had a great experience with them last year Dallas to Cancun. I paid $20-30 extra for exit row seat and had huge amount of legroom. Seems like a budget airline so no one else bought exit row seats there or back, so we had the whole row. Would use them again

Where did they put the chickens?

If all goes well, you'll be fine.

If it doesn't, you'll be stranded somewhere for a week until you rent a car and drive to where you need to be.

I haven't seen the name Sun Country Air in nearly 20 years and now it's cropped up twice in the past week, once here and once in a neighborhood Facebook group. We used them to fly to Vegas for my bachelor party back for March Madness the year we went to the Final Four. It was fine going out there but we got stranded on the flight home on Sunday. Our plane was coming from Milwaukee IIRC but had mechanical issues and never made it. They kept pushing and pushing our departure so we went back to the casino to watch Texas beat Michigan State (we were supposed to be back in Dallas for tip-off of that game). One of my buddies got tired of waiting and bought a one-way ticket on Southwest because he had to be back for work on Monday. I think we finally left around midnight and landed back in Dallas in the early AM. I went straight from the airport to a charity golf tournament after not sleeping. Brutal. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER fly that piece of shit airline again.

Is it Sun Country that was like... borne out of the demise of Braniff, founded by ex employees and the CEO used to also be one of the pilots?

It is not the same thing as Sun Express, btw. Was once on the phone with someone at Sun Country and was super goddamn confused about the Minnesota accent for about 5 minutes until I recalibrated.

Pretty much, yeah.

Fun fact: Braniff saved the Driskill Hotel from demolition in the early 1970s and owned it until 1985.

Its a low cost airline. You need to pay extra for the plane crash.

Luckily I'm cheap as fuck so I'm not paying for that.

It would be a better low cost model if they charged you to NOT crash.  I'm thinking they could get most people to pay that fee.  The millenials and gen z might opt out though based on all the memes I see....
