Lamar Brown is scripting a perfect playbook on how to get paid even when the ultimate conclusion is inevitable.

If he really wants to get paid max, he should take another visit to Texas and be all Texas on his social media and with reporters.  Hint he's leaning Texas going into the Texas visit.  Their money will flow even more.

I've watched a little of each players hudl, and have to say if I had to pick one I'd take Luke Wafle over Carlton.   Not a knock on Carlton, he's very good, but Wafle looks like a bad mofo at EDGE.

Isn’t Carlton considered a developmental prospect like Zina from needing to add weight and strength?  I saw he was ranked as a 5 star on one service but didn’t quite get the ranking of he’s not expected to contribute for 1-2 years.

I'd be interested in how the staff have these edges ranked:  Wesley, Carlton, Quinn, Henderson, Waifle, Kreul (sp).

Is Perry-Wright an edge as well?  I’d say Henderson probably would be at the top of the board.  Gerry has said he’s a surefire 5 star.

One of the $9.95 sites said Carlton is up to 260 lbs now.

He also said Quinn is a top 150-100 player nationally.  Two of the services have him rated fairly high and the other two have him a high 3*.

His hudl is really, really good.  He has all the tools and a great frame.

Must have put up his dancin’ shoes if that’s the case.

It’s that time of year, where recruiting takes center stage and things can and do change in an instant.

Case in point, Buford defensive end Dre Quinn, as he was leaving Austin on Sunday, told reporters he would likely be foregoing his visit to Notre Dame that was scheduled for this upcoming weekend.

Well, he got home, consulted with family, and yesterday afternoon decided he would go ahead and take that visit to Notre Dame.

But…

A report late last night from a Notre Dame reporter said Quinn had ultimately decided against visiting South Bend this weeekend and will instead announce a commitment between Texas and Clemson.

If you feel like you’ve been on a Merry-Go-Round just reading that story, imagine how recruits and coaches feel. After all, they’re the ones actually living this reality.

I say all this for one reason:

Remember, things can change on a dime in recruiting, often multiple times and often within just hours.

**

While it’s a lot of fun to keep up with the skill position players in recruiting, it’s really the OL and DL where the rubber meets the road.

Texas has two commits on the OL and two on the DL.

All four are guys the Horns like a lot.

But I suspect that total number to double (or perhaps go to 10) by the first week or so of July.

In other words, decisions are starting to be made.

I’m certain every other rating service has long since moved Ojo ahead of Turntine, and are now even classifying JTIII as an inside OL instead of a tackle (and several rungs higher on the overall board), but Gerry was pounding on the table for Turntine two years ago, proclaiming “best player regardless of classification,” and is determined to stick to his guns. Maybe he’ll be proven right. But he’ll never be right using “peripheral” instead of “periphery.”

Blalock played Tackle for us and then moved to Guard in the pros.  Maybe something similar happens with Turntine.

Yes, I’d be ecstatic to win Turntine’s recruitment.

I think he’s softened just a touch on how he talks about Turntine vs the field. Hasn’t backed off his rating but now says things like “all of these guys are tremendous” and won’t say he clearly has more upside than guys like Ojo, Lee, and Greene.

A&M's Draft performance this year should be the canary in the coal mine for that program under Elko. Although their DL guys got drafted, the story with all of them was "they didn't have the performance that matched their expectations. They are getting drafted on potential." Defense is Elko's bread and butter, but he couldn't get that defense and the elite players to play at an elite level. It was just "meh." And no one can try the excuse of those weren't his players. Yeah they were. He recruited those guys, and he went to the portal to get the defense he wanted. The Year 1 Elko Experience is everything someone should expect out of Elko when it comes to development going forward. It's not going to be great by any means.

Let's compound the lack of development with the non-existent QB recruiting. They are spending money elsewhere, but not at QB. Lack of development and talent at the QB position is a scary combo. I guess they are hoping that they will get lucky in the portal? It hasn't gone that way yet.

They will win recruiting battles, but the lack of development across the board and the dearth of talent at QB will keep the 8-and-4 train chugging along.

Why yes, yes it does.  Five years of 8, with two each of 7 & 9 that perfectly balance the 8 win theme.  The only thing that doesn't give them an 8 average is that pesky 5 win season from 2022 (year of aggy cruitin).  In summary - Pedestrian.

Saw this from a poster on OTF:

"Sam Spiegelman of Rivals like Texas for Felix Ojo, Xavier Griffin, Dre Quinn, and Vodney Cleveland and is close to inputting a pick for Samari Matthews."

Here is what he said:

After this weekend, I had predictions in for Texas to land 5-star OT Felix Ojo and 4-star EDGE Xavier Griffin

I've added a third -- for four-star EDGE Dre Quinn -- and a decision may not be far off. We do not expect him to OV Notre Dame or Tennessee on Friday.

I'm also close to following suit with Samari Matthews, who will come off the board Aug. 10. SC gets this weekend's visit and has been a leader in the clubhouse. Texas closed the gap significantly this weekend, we are hearing
