Texas Rangers 2023 - They're Still Shitty?

Other than Chapman, I'm strangely confident.

It seems the team really conquered something after Seattle and has something incredible going. Obviously going 5-0 builds that confidence. Maybe Bochy does have that magic.

Hopefully the time off doesn't slow that down -- but they're healthy, mashing again and both the starters and pen have been ridiculous.

The Astros have a couple bats doing well and starters upping their game in the playoffs, but nearly the entire Rangers lineup has been electric.

Astros are mediocre at home. Actually, still less than .500 at home this season.

The series that they'll endlessly bring up from September had multiple key players missing and doesn't even feel like this same season. No Carter yet, Jung out, the whole offense sucked then and Scherzer was off and about to go on IR and Eovaldi was basically doing his first rehab assignment against them.

I think the whole team will benefit from that shitty outcome in mind and they'll come out on fire with something to prove.

Sunday can't get here soon enough.

I take that back then. Can't fucking remember when that whole thing stopped.

csb/ I was burning CDs for people at 5 bucks a pop in 99 with mp3s from MIRC. I was so paranoid about getting in trouble for it that I rigged up an "external" hard drive in case I needed to fry it at a moments notice.

So I was right to be paranoid.

I did get in trouble a few times back in the day for downloading torrents of HBO shows but the worst that ever happened was TW shutting my internet off for a day and making me pay a 30 dollar reconnecting fee.

I have an acquaintance who got kicked out of UT and got fined $25,000 for running a Napster server over their Ethernet.

Very skeptical Scherzer pitches.

Didn't he do a sim game today? Does that get reported on or is it kept under wraps?

It’s behind the paywall but the DMN has a headline saying Bochy labeled his 60-pitch sim game “really encouraging”…

Well, put it this way: Bruce Bochy didn’t absolutely commit Thursday to Max Scherzer starting a game for the Rangers in the AL Championship Series. But he couldn’t have come much closer.

A day after Scherzer threw 60 pitches over four innings of a simulated game, Bochy said the Rangers were “really encouraged,” about the possibilities. Bochy also indicated that the Rangers would lean towards using Scherzer, who has been dealing with a strained teres major muscle behind his shoulder, as a starter rather than out of the bullpen. Scherzer has not pitched in a game since September 12.

The Rangers were still waiting for final word on how Scherzer recovered after the game simulation. They do not have to finalize their roster until Sunday. The Rangers can’t afford to err on the side of aggressiveness with Scherzer because if he is placed on the roster and then must be taken off due to injury, he’d be ineligible should the team make the World Series.

“Max is doing well,” Bochy said. “He had a nice outing yesterday. We have some time here before we set this roster, but we have to be really encouraged with how he threw the ball.

“I think you have to go with what you see too much as what he’s telling you, but we watched him, and it was good. As I said, really, really encouraging. He threw enough to where the stamina and strength showed up. We just want to make sure.”

While the Rangers waited for Scherzer, they also withheld naming a starter for Sunday’s Game 1 in Houston. They have multiple options. If the Rangers simply keep everybody on turn, they could use either Andrew Heaney or Dane Dunning, who combined in Game 1 of the ALDS. If they want to return to the top of the rotation, Jordan Montgomery, who served as the No. 1 starter after Scherzer’s injury, would have six days rest. Or they could even use Nathan Eovaldi, who started the Division Series clincher on Tuesday; he would be on regular four days’ of rest.

Scherzer, who did not address the media on Thursday, had said after the Rangers completed their sweep of Baltimore in the Division Series that he felt optimistic about his chances of being ready for the ALCS.

Bochy also left open the possibility that Jon Gray, who was placed on the IL during the final weekend of the season, could be activated for the ALCS, though it would likely be in a relief role. Gray had not yet thrown to hitters, as Scherzer had.

Ohhhhh yeah. They popped plenty of people back in the day for that shit.

The torrenting movies to a hard drive stuff - if it's for personal use - almost never gets anyone in trouble AFAIK. It was the burning CDs/DVDs thing that fucked a lot of people over because it was easily traceable.

pondering all the bitching about the brief layoff actually being a detriment for all the folks with byes losing.  i basically think it is just dumb overreacting to small sample size.  but the homers-or-bust formula for getting 100 wins isn't made for playoff baseball.*  it's made to just generate a few dozen more runs over a 162 game sample.  if you don't have the ability to scrap for runs, you're going to have a bad time in october.  it's pretty interesting.  who knows what the future of optimizing your team will mean.

*please ignore the implications for the rangers.

I've been here. Like I said I passed out before the end of G3 and frankly I'm not interested in posting much if at all in the hate thread.

Bitch what? You started that thread. I jumped in there way-back-when to back y'all up.

You should jump back in. Plus it's fun - their smack talk is about the weakest I've seen. It's absurd.

It's like watching toddlers make "art" by eating glue and peeing their pants.

On the ticket this morning, Bochy said something along the lines of I'm highly confident Scherzer will start a game. My totally uneducated guess

1) Montgomery

2)Eovaldi

3) Scherzer with limited pitch count then Heaney or Dunning in 4th or 5th?

I’m splitting hairs here but he didn’t say starting specifically but he did say, “I’m pretty confident he’ll be able to pitch, but we still have time to make that decision so we’ll wait. If we’re wrong it would be an IL situation and he won’t be available the next series “

Now, I don’t see the use of going through all this not to to start. Like if her were to be a bullpen guy ramp him up to 30-45 full pitches and move on. 60+ feels more starter build up.

Another scenario popped up is Dunning or Heaney in G3 then as soon as they hit trouble Max is up as the long man. If they roll then save Max for 4 and that lines up 5,6,7 a little better imo.

Wasn't the downloading that got me popped, it was the sharing. It was always HBO shows, except the one time it was porn. Don't remember what porn it was, but I guess Vivid or whoever was monitoring torrent seeding at the time. That was an awkward convo with Time Warner customer service.

Anyways back to baseball.... Everything I'm reading seems to indicate that Gray would only be back in a relief role. So who we got for a game 4?
