Moving forward I would prefer our schedule change so that we get two P4 games one at home and one on the road before we finish all our OOC opponents. We got screwed over because our 1st two P4 games were both on the road with a young inexperienced team.

G5, home/road P4 OOC, G5, road/home SEC game, final G5 opponent.

Going forward we’re only going to have 3 out of conference games. This is stupid.

Honestly - several reasons, first he was touted by everyone including insiders as being more than ready, and Ewers played really well as a freshman with no experience. When most thought arch was already better than Quinn the floor raised and the ceiling was blown off. Terrible in hindsight, of course a new guy needs work to be good.

Maybe he would have played better with a serviceable OL and a decent run game. A new QB with a bad OL, run game, and playcalling, is a bad combo. Let the game slow down for Arch, fix the OL or give them time to gel, and get a good RB or two in the portal, and we might just compete for the big prize before Arch is done here at Texas. I don't think we are good enough this year.

The offense should be re-designed around the QB run - like a true zone read offense. Play to his strengths rather than try to turn him into a traditional dropback pocket passer.

The crazy part is this offense IS built for him. Let me explain. Outside zone is what made the Shanahans famous. Faking that stretch play and the QB boot out the back is what we were opening up games with like 4 games in a row. And because its OZ its easy to wash down the defensive like on the zone read leaving the QB with only second and third level guys to worry about. I think once he has a full command of it people will love what we are currently doing. He can run or throw off of it really well.

When your OL plays as badly as ours did against Florida, no amount of play calling can save you.

sure I'm not saying we win but we don't lose 42-0

I got high with Mick Jones in 1992 in the parking lot of the Bronco Bowl.

I mean if it will help the team continue the hate, we may need to have a discussion on punk and post punk. For the record, I’m conflicted on Joy Division.

Why do people on the football board do this?

Had he led a great drive that gave us the possibility of scoring at the end, then you could crow. He didn't. Just coming close would prove your point, but that didn't happen either. He didn't even look like he'd turned a corner in the first half of OU. The sun rose burnt orange after that.

Sark was vindicated in sticking with Manning. One could argue forever about the past games, but that does nothing. We'll never know what would have happened with Caldwell no matter how many times certain elements believe their absolute declarations have any weight.

There is a strange, to me anyway, parallel sport for some sports fans where careful noting of their own and other's opinions over time leads to petty victories of declaring someone else wrong when you were right. There are grudge matches and rivalries and even cheating (specious recollections of other's words) in this sport. It often seems to supersede the sport on the field.

It's what makes the football board often insufferable although the worst aspect is repeating the same opinion unsupported declaration (they're opinions in the form of predictions) in the same words over and over on as many threads as possible.

Like I said, most couldn’t see it. It’s ok if you’re one of those guys.

Joy Division isn’t punk. wtf

I know I'm inviting a ridiculous tangent into this thread, but I think they're fairly categorized as post punk and at the cusp of creating EDM / new wave genres. If New Order was their natural progression, then I think Joy Division is a perfect "bridge band" between punk and new wave.

You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

I like music, it's just that .... Huey's too black sounding for me.

Their RB room makes ours from last year look like Bama's from 2010-2021. That room looks more vacated than a liquor store after 7pm in Baltimore. We all knew Demarco Murray was a trash ass recruiter, but got damn, that room seems not long for this world. Taylor Tatum, their "prize" is literally not even anywhere to be found. He played in every single game last year except for the RRS, and had 56 carries for 278 yards and 3 TD's.. He's carried the ball 10 times once,  9 times twice, 8 times once, and then it's 6 or less carries in 11 games. I don't know if he's hurt or what, but Ott ain't it, and neither are Robinson or Barnes. That room is moribund. Gavin Sawchuck (or more like SawSucks, amirite?) left for a worse team, and he wasn't even considered mid as he was a 3* transfer. He was the Velton Gardner without the missing eye for them and even wth snaps available, he still Houdinied. But hey, they still have his 3* recruit brother, Gabe. Jovante Barnes and Jaydn Ott are, uh, let me put this lightly-  Asswater. They don't have a single RB, not one, with over 100 yards rushing.

To put that into perspective, Texas has 5, and that doesn't include Arch, who would be 6. To say their RB room is depleted would be as close to saying Washington Park in Chicago is just the minority in poverty. It's beyond grim. Their WR's aren't much better. They have one WR with 3 TDs, Sategna III, (transfer from Arky), two with 2 TDs (Bukes, and four time transfer Keontez Lewis), and two with 1 TD (Xavier Robinson, RB, and TE Kaden Helms).

We have one with 4 TD's (Wingo), 3 TD's (Jaggerson), 2 TDs (Endries), three with 1 TD (Moore, TE, J. Washington, and Wisner).

This proves the gap between who he played against at Wash St vs the SEC is wider than South Austin's mom's cavern. Mateer is a bum. They literally let a bum go just to go grab a vagrant.

All in all, I'll be honest- I don't think ou is a very good team. That doesn't take away from the performance the good guys put on, as it's a rivalry game and anything can happen, but yeah, Venebals is getting fired or has one more year to "prove it."

Arch is getting better, and that's all I am asking for. I don't care what the numbers say, ou's defense is hardly "elite". Are they Good? Absolutely. Are they elite? No. Not at all. They have a few really good players who will get drafted or make a roster (not necessarily "stars") in the NFL, such as R. Mason Thomas, Kip Lewis, David Stone, Kobie Mckenzie, Robert Spears-Jennings, Peyton Bowen, Eli Bowen, and Jayden Jackson off the top of my head.

None of this takes anything away from our offense, especially since our o-line is still "new" with Brooks learning as he goes, Arch is still learning, and we seem to just primarily run 12 peronnel with Wisner getting the bulk, and Simon/Clark/Gibson coming in for a spell for like 1-3 carries each. I like our TE usage, tho. Endries is a great get, and I'm starting to like Washington. 12 personnel was good, but I would like to see some 21 personnel to mix it up.

Also, I saw this. It's pretty good.

I don’t think this is ridiculous at all, in fact it’s probably the most vital debate of our time.

Also, I’m on team Joy Division=punk.

I'm calling "The Malevolent Genies" for my punk cover band.  We'll be playing nothing but Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Stooges, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Minutemen and Husker (what are you, an amateur? Come on, bro). No Ramones, their release times were too short.

These bands go full boner hard. Throw in some Black Flag, Melvins, Circle Jerks, Social Distortion, Pixies, and Fugazi and and we might start doing some speedballs.

Also, just gonna throw these out there, and if you don't like it, just throw it back:

Tool

Beastie Boys

Deftones

Queens of the Stone Age

Any Wu-tang (all members, including honorary Redman). It's ok to if you're white to rap to the Wu, they love us.

Finally got my re watch in.

Arch was a surgical master in this game as noted, but i did see at least 2 maybe 3 of his scramble throws were side arms.

They were amazingly accurate, but still did his side arm.   Fingers crossed this was not him on fire and he doesn't regress to week 1-4 with that stuff.

I fully vote his 3rd down scramble to throw to Parker at our own end zone was the play of the season thus far.

There was at least one throw scrambling to the right he made that was there for the taking against OSU, almost identical, that ended up in the ground.

By recollection I think more than a couple of those were scrambling to his left and throwing back towards the middle.  Sidearm seems pretty natural for that.

And anything around 3/4 and above is fine. In fact, most coaches nowadays would say to avoid the exaggerated shoulder tilt that it takes most people to get to a full arm slot.
