What a mind-blowingly stupid thing to say. Just waltzing into the thread on a new sock and still exhibiting a 6 year old's understanding of Middle East geopolitics.

Why should we care about Qatar, guys? They're only a major strategic and economic ally, and a major staging ground for all of our military operations in that region of the world. They're only host to the biggest fucking US military base in the Middle East that also just so happens to be the forward HQ of US CENTCOM, and host to thousands of our troops.

Why tho?

We did not do it. Israel did. Maybe they had our tacit approval but doubtful. Qatar doesn’t have much right to be pissed. And if they are, we have full deniability. Fuck em

They did it with our weapons and aircraft.  You understand that this kind of shit is how we lose influence and lose major military bases that we need over there.

What they do with our weapons and aircraft is their business. We can’t put governors on how they feel they need to function. We can cease providing them weaponry if we dislike their usage, and I know that is where this conversation is headed.

We did not do this, Qatar knows it, and we’re not losing military presence in Qatar as a result.

Okay, tell me Qatar has a right to be pissed, and why we should be concerned.

Do you think we had full knowledge?

Yes I think we had knowledge. I am inferring that from these provable facts:

  • This summer we defended against Iran's bombing in Qatar. We have the defense technology to shoot down.
  • Last week we did not defend against Israel's bombing in Qatar. We (still, 4 months later) have the defense technology to shoot down.

It logically follows that we, in some form or fashion whether explicitly or tacitly, a) had knowledge and b) allowed for it to happen.

If Qatar wasn't pissed, that is what would be weird.

I don’t know if we did or didn’t. I probably should not have said it’s doubtful. I do know we asked Qatar to expel Hamas leaders over a year ago because of their refusal to release 10/7 hostages. I don’t know the status of negotiations, but the post-mortem mood of Qatar is inconsequential.

Qatar is one of our best allies in the region and we have a great relationship and a rather substantial military base and presence in the region thanks to Qatar. Their continued friendliness is an asset and to brazenly burn relationship equity is foolish.

I agree their friendship is an asset. I disagree we did anything, brazenly or otherwise. If we asked for Hamas to be removed from the area recently, their harboring of terrorists outweighs their usefulness.

Israel was brazen and we cosigned the document. How you can't see that means you aren't following or you are being dishonest.

Now, to whether in the end it will TRULY matter-- hard to say. The emergency meeting of the region just wrapped, I expect we would have been behind the scenes kissing rings and rears and apologizing profusely for the last 72 hours, so maybe we can just take the slap on the wrist, lost a couple aura points to Qatar and KSA, and rebuild it later, idk.

But I don't think it happens again (I don't think we let it happen again, that is to say) and I think Trump gets to keep the Qatari AF1 and we all collectively move on, because as the bonesaw should have told us out back, geopolitics in the Middle East calls for a lot more broken eggs than the usual omeletes.

I don’t know we co-signed. Nobody knows. And I am not being dishonest. This is a non-issue and we’re not kissing rings and rears.

We do? We've been disengaging from the Middle East over the last 15 years. This is just another step.

We have, but I think we keep Al Udeid and some of the smaller bases in the UAE and supply depots in Oman. We had those before the invasion of Iraq.

Yeah I can't imagine why these people think that the situation with Israel/Hamas means we're giving up on Al Udeid. That would be completely insane.

e: And also that this somehow means we're giving up on our relationship with Qatar. Deranged morons.

Not an onion headline...

https://www.avclub.com/israel-defunding-ophir-awards-the-sea-palestine

Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar is threatening to pull funding from the Ophir Awards, Israel’s version of the Oscars, after a film critiquing Israel won the top prize. The Sea, helmed by Israeli director Shai Carmeli-Pollak and Palestinian producer Bahaer Agbarian, tells the story of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy living in the West Bank on his way to visit the sea for the first time. His journey is halted when Israeli authorities deny him entry at a checkpoint, per Deadline‘s description. “Determined to fulfil his dream, he sneaks into Israel and embarks on a dangerous journey to the coast, dodging checkpoint, military and police,” it continues.

“There is no greater slap in the face of Israeli citizens than the embarrassing and detached annual Ophir Awards ceremony,” Zohar, a member of Israel’s conservative party, said in a statement calling the win “disgraceful,” as reported by Israeli media (via Deadline). “Starting with the 2026 budget, this pathetic ceremony will no longer be funded by taxpayers’ money. Under my watch, Israeli citizens will not pay from their pockets for a ceremony that spits in the faces of our heroic soldiers.”

But you do have to admit those videos of Hamas having their beepers explode is satisfying (because Hamas, not Palestinians, are the bad guys).

She's not wrong until she is, in her final conclusion.

Yep, the arab states have used Palestinians as pawns for decades.  And yes, using violence provoked against them as a PR tool is indeed part of their plan.  If you're looking for someone around here to put a white hat on the arab states and palestinian leadership, keep looking.

But that doesn't change the fact that Israel has done more than taken the bait: they've indulged in an orgy of murder and ethnic cleansing (in their own words, that's what they want and what they are doing).

You may have pissed me off and done horrible things to me.  And I have every right to defend myself against that.  But if I murder your children, drive you from your home, and salt the earth....yeah, now I'm just being fucking evil.

Violent response can be just.  It can also cross the line and become evil.  Just because something started off as just doesn't mean that it didn't later become evil.

But, isn't martyrdom what Palestinians strive for? How do you teach people that have been indoctrinated from birth to hate Jews and the way to heaven is to die while killing Jews and infidels to change their religious beliefs? A religion they are willing to die for. The loneliest job , in the World, has to be a call taker for the Palestinian Suicide Hotline. As she stated, there is no plurality in Islam, you are either a Muslim, or are worthy of death.

This is on the same level as Japanese Kamakazi pilots, and Japanese fighting to the death and never surrendering. Their honor, and their perceived "afterlife" mean more to them than their life itself, as well as their families and children's lives. The Palestinians want a fight to the death and the winner takes it all.

FFS, I know a metric shitton of muslims, none of them think I should die.  Goddammit, reading my social media these days, there are a SHITTON more "Christians" who right now think that I should die because of my beliefs.

I have Muslim friends and former Muslim friends. Most of the former Muslims left Islam specifically over non plurality, and the inability for Islam to coexist with other religions. Many became Christians, as it welcomes anyone, and hopes to save those who have not found God yet. In services at their Mosque, the Mullah would curse those that were not of Islam.

And by the way, the reason Egypt doesn't want to allow a mass migration of Palestinians isn't because they're afraid of them, it's because doing so would be tantamount to tacit approval of Israel's desire to ethnically cleanse the Gaza strip. No country in that region wants to set that precedent for reasons that should be obvious to anyone with wrinkles left on their brains.

That woman is full of shit and is just uncritically repeating standard hasbara talking points. If you're still duped by that in 2025, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Jesus, dude (Brisket says unironically).

Again, right now, I can pop onto my social media and find 100X more "Christians" who literally want me killed, silenced, or expelled from the country, because I don't share their beliefs.

I know plenty of muslims.  Not one of them has ever voiced such a sentiment to or about me.  Logs, specks, all that stuff.  Look into it.  Your blanket statements about muslims are fucking horrible, and you should really think about what the fuck you are saying and promoting.  It's fucking twisted.

I'm just lamenting on why no one will have the outcome they desire, or that there is a logical solution that will be reached. Sometimes bad shit just happens in our World. In religious context, we are seeing the unstoppable force meet the immoveable object. It seems people just want "tit for tat" for all eternity. Muslims vs Judaism. We killed some of your people, so you can kill a certain number of ours. A two state solution is not the solution to keep this from happening, it will just end up in border skirmishes like with Hezbollah in Lebanon, with a new invasion by Israel every few years to flush out rocket launchers.

Let me say this as gently as possible. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Only someone that is completely uneducated on the history of Israel and the region in which it lies would ever say some shit like this. This post right here is one of the top 5 most blatantly racist things ever posted in this 179 page long thread, it's actually quite remarkable and frankly probably deserves a timeout. You desperately need to educate yourself in a better way on this topic. I'm actually embarrassed for you.
